I haven't actually chosen the "for my own power" option either, but I did choose the one about leading by example or something along those lines, and from the wording in that tile, both options were conflated into "declaring for the Inquisitor."

This choice affects dialogue as much as anything else, to be fair - unique dialogue opens up here and there that you can choose to use or not. Nothing world-shattering, but it does give your IQ some meat. IIRC declaring for the Inquisitor didn't really give me anything special, declaring for order gave me unique lines about the Templars and the Circles, and declaring for faith gave me the most unique new lines.

....although it's possible that faith gave me the same number of new lines as order, and my impression of it was just slanted by the rest of that playthrough. I made my Templar Quizzie super faithful and devoted, made her believe she was Andraste's chosen, made her declare for faith when she was elevated to Inquisitor, be very pro-Chantry, etc, and the amount of unique dialogue options that those choices opened up was crazy. Almost every other conversation now came with extra unique lines carrying the Chantry icon, it was really interesting to see.

Are there tiles for choosing the race specific ones, or are those all lumped under leading by example?

Edit: and good to know about faith opening new lines, I'm playing Zhenya as a faithful Andrastrian Carta member (after all, Zevran had a perfectly good explanation for how he could be faithful and a Crow :P .)

Huh, I honestly don't think I've seen chantry unique dialogues and I've been super duper devout in my 2nd playthrough too. Just noble special dialogue....that's pretty nice though, I'll have to choose the "for my own power" when I get to skyhold, ugh...for science, because if it's gonna give brash dialogue, I'm sure to notice. I'm such a cupcake all the time, I faint when I see meanie options :?

I choose leading as a Dalish for my warrior when she was made Inquisitor, but apparently I've been making faithful dialogue choices because I've gotten a couple of special choices in conversations and judgements that appear to be connected to being devout (which is entertaining since she publicly supports the Inquisition position about her being Herald and she encourages others to stay faithful, but she isn't Andrastrian herself, just respects their beliefs.)

And I enjoyed taking the flirts with Cullen during Perseverance on my Solasmancer because the looks are intense, but could be affection and gratitude (or poorly concealed romantic feelings, lol.)

It's the latter.

This is pure brilliance, a masterpiece!!It describes my feelings accurately, even though Solas is winning me over, Cullen will a,ways have a very special spot in my  <3  alongside Alistair and Fenris.

Gah, no kidding. <3 <3

And, since I'm now home: screenshots!

See here, Exhibit A, the so-called "puppy eyes" look that has been well documented in the wild, but previously only in a Cullen romance environment. Notice how close they come, only to not kiss. ^_^

I like where he ended up in DA:I. He's ready to let you die in Haven. I mean, wow, talk about the needs of the many. I was saddened by it but impressed with him, because it made sense. I also like that your near death experience shakes him, possibly making him realize how much he cares about you.

This here is an important point that I only really put together recently. I liked the idea, in theory, that Cullen starts to feel something deeper for the IQ after what goes down in Haven, but I had trouble really seeing why, what would lead him to go from your friendly but also politely distant camaraderie in Haven to, oh no I think I like her. Watching that cutscene when he suggests the Herald will cut off her own escape route to buy the others time to run, though, drove it home: until this point, she was mostly a tool for them, in a mutual agreement to exchange her help and services as an agent for the safety the Inquisition provides her, but she could still have up and left at any point here - Cassandra and Leliana never try to force her to stay. And he's willing to sacrifice her as a soldier here, because their collective duty to save everyone they can is more important than saving only the Herald, at the expense of hundreds of lives.

But when Cullen realises she's willing to sacrifice herself to save everyone else, he realises she hasn't left, she's staying and taking this whole thing seriously, and if she has to give her life to protect their people from Corypheus, she will. Cullen does believe in personal sacrifices for the greater good, so to see that reflected in her changes how he sees her, changes everything he thinks he knows about her, and changes how he feels about her. For a non-romancing Inquisitor, I think this is the point where he really starts to respect  her, beyond all the little jabs he gives early on, and where he sees that she should be the one leading them all, instead of trying to keep up with their petty squabbles. For a romancing Inquisitor, it's all that too, but it's also when he sees that, wow, this woman is amazing; and when the early seeds of the feelings he'll develop for her really take root. To feel this pang of wow about the Herald, and then immediately lose her to the duty she was willing to embrace shakes him up good, and I can see his feelings begin to form once she comes back out of some miracle and he starts to add everything up in his mind - how it just felt to lose her, how it feels to have her back now, how unlikely her survival was and what does it even mean that he's being granted a chance to sit there and entertain these weird thoughts instead of just having to mourn her like so many chances he's lost before...

Ok I'll stop myself now. :P

Anyway, I think this point -when he's willing to let you die for the greater good but then is shocked that you're willing to let yourself die for the greater good too- is when things really change between Cullen and the IQ, and I like to think (at least for my two Quizzies who romanced him, though it may not work for other people's Quizzies of course) that this moment you point out right there is when the spark that will become their relationship really goes off.

I agree with ninetozero that it would depend on the circumstances. One of things I find interesting about Cullen and wanted to see explored in DA:I is what he would do when he started to care about one individual,  in contrast to caring about the needs of the many. He's spent his whole life doing what was right for the collective without regard to his own personal needs. So I wanted to see how he would adjust to falling in love and wanting to put that one person's needs above the needs of the many for the first time.

I like where he ended up in DA:I. He's ready to let you die in Haven. I mean, wow, talk about the needs of the many. I was saddened by it but impressed with him, because it made sense. I also like that your near death experience shakes him, possibly making him realize how much he cares about you. But by the end of the game, he's torn about sending you off to possibly certain death with Corypheus, and questioning whether he can do it. And, yet, he's strong enough to do it anyway.

So would he needlessly sacrifice himself or their cause to save her... I think signs point to no. I think he'd needfully sacrifice himself, but not just for some romantic notion of dying together for no reason if it might jeopardize other things.

I also see him being willing to see her take risks when needed as respecting her ability and judgement as a combatant or mage and as a leader, and that's important to me. It's also one of the things I find fascinating about Melissa's templar run; he trusts and respects her judgment even when he worries about the choices she's making.

I like the idea of him putting himself before the needs of the many too. To be in so many situations that have shaken his core identity, made him question his beliefs, and tossed around like so much meat in metal, and having allowed himself to be defined by the group he's dedicated his life to...he's had no clear realization of who he really is until the end of da2 basically. And then to be [I] okay [I/] with who he is and finding thats others are more than okay with it too...

I've always liked the idea that you can't ever truly love someone until you love yourself...

Edit: wow, nine...there is so much amazing fic potential based on your last post...ugh, his realization she's a woman who won't shy away from doing what's right...so many feelz...

Excellent analysis, ninetozero! It doesn't quite work for my Quizzie - I imagine the spark going off a bit earlier than that, and I don't see him being at all surprised that she'd sacrifice herself, since that's a trait she's already demonstrated in other ways. But that moment in the Chantry in Haven is definitely where something changes inside him, though amid all the chaos, he doesn't get a chance to realize it until later.

I also like to headcanon that he's the one who sends up the flare once everyone's above the treeline, that he's waiting up there as the people file past, so he sees a good portion of the confrontation between Cory and the Herald. And he can't quite tear himself away until the avalanche thunders down and her tiny form is lost from view... *sigh* I'm hopeless.

That's exactly how I felt too ninetozero! You could see either respect or feelings spark when she chooses to stay behind. Either way, whether romantic or not, she's won his heart be it as a friend forever that he'll respect and protect, or a lover he will cherish, which leads up perfectly to the scene when he's afraid to lose her if romanced. He never wanted to have Haven repeat, and now he has to let her go and hope she returns like before.

Lol and OT, tweeting to Steve Valentine who will retweet you, gets many Alistair fangirls favoring your tweet! Just happened. Lol

"You got: Cullen

"Cullen will ONLY have sex with female characters, and ONLY if they're human or elvish, so if you're into racist pieces of trash, you'll probably really enjoy pursuing Cullen."

Uh...

The Solas one was a bit insulting too, from an asexual POV. Yeesh.

I got Cullen... but I'm not surprised. I am single because I won't date men that aren't gentlemen who care about their hygiene and looks. LOL!!

I long for a knight in shinning armor, but that's nearly impossible these days.

And I got a result that had absolutely nothing to do with my responses. I'm wondering if this wasn't partly designed to insult people.

Considering the text for the different romances, several of which seem to be insulting, I'd say this was not even a remotely serious attempt.

Yeah, they're all insulting. It's buzzfeed and based on a completely unscientific five question poll. Silly at best, hopefully not truly insulting at worst.

Whaaaaa???? I got Solas... Fuuuuuuu  Don't get me wrong... I love him as a character, but would not romance him b/c: (1) too smooth for me (I like my men a little rough around the edges); (2) you could sink the Titanic on that chin (j/k... I'm just not attracted to cleft chins) :P
