I tend to fault Bioware when it comes to this “Warden Return” desire some players had/have. (....) Then you have an off to the side plot-line that your Warden is off trying to seek out the cure for The Blight.
Somewhat, but the players are largely to blame too. The "seeking a cure for the taint" thing was supposed to be just a throwaway send-off for the HoF - the Warden goes off on a pointless journey that will end up in a dead end (because actually curing the taint is too big a change of the universe's most basic premises) and we never hear from them again. Fandom is to blame for reading too much into that and making it into this whole notion that it's too big to be nothing, that it's obviously setting up for a HoF-centric DLC, etc.
Thing is, if this subplot was supposed to be something important, people with Ultimate Sacrifice world states would need that foreshadowing in their games too, but we have nothing. We don't have any references to the Warden-Commander in game, leave alone any reference to seeking a cure for the taint. We don't even have a tile at the Keep to specify which race our Orlesian Warden-Commander was, despite how long we've been begging for it. There's zero setup for such a story on a US world state, zero concern with putting the Orlesian Warden in context for such a quest... there's just no effort being put into bringing the HoF and their replacement back. But you point that out, and you're the buzzkill killing people's dreams of seeing their Wardens again, so... this fever to make every minor Warden-related detail bigger than it was ever meant to be is not on BioWare's shoulders anymore. Unless they either do a long timeskip or simply stop mentioning the HoF altogether in the next games, people are gonna keep reading way too much into it and never accepting that the Warden's story is over.
I just hope for the next DA game, my Inquisitor and Cullen don't end up being separating because one is off looking for snoz berries or whatever.
With luck, we're really moving North in the next game, and the Inquisition down South won't even factor into anything too major. Our new hero can deal with all the trouble there, while our Inquisitor and her Commander carry on doing their thing in the South.... and even if they're off just picking berries together, at least they'll still be together.

But BioWare runs on fantears. I thought that was a well-known fact.
Next game: our new PC runs into Cullen on the street one day, and when asked where the Inquisitor is, he says, "Oh, she heard about unicorns being sighted in the Hunterhorn Mountains and vanished. Unicorns are all-important to her, as you know. So, any super-dangerous, potentially deadly tasks you need my help with?"

That is the only way I would want my Warden to die and it makes the most sense for them to die like that. Their LI wouldn't just leave them alone.

How bad is it that I immediately thought you were going to segue this with Cullen being homeless, drunk, trading shady favors for dwarf dust, ranting maniacally about how he was totally a general in an army once and he was totally married to the Inquisitor before she disappeared without a trace and he was so depressed he threw it all away and somehow ended up a beggar in the streets of Minrathous because... reasons.
....worse yet, how bad is it that this is totally a plausible scenario for a BioWare character?

Huh...I actually did not know that the Olesian warden wasn't mentioned in the ultimate sacrifice world state. I just assumed they had the same mission on the ware table (cause they were mentioned at the end of DA2 by Leliana). What a buzz-kill!!! ![]()
Nonetheless, I will get over in in a jiffy. I think the writers have millions of places to go with the story, so anything is possible. I am salivating over DLC at this point, and will be happy with anything to get over the DAI post-game hump!!
AND...I am currently running through my house and clapping like an idiot cause of wonderful Teshayel art in progress!!! WHOOPPEEE!!!!! It is a good day people!!! ![]()

Eh, I'm of the opinion, maybe not popular, that there is a limited amount you can do to a character before it's either absurd or people just shrug. It is plausible that they could, I just hope they don't take that route. When it reaches absurd, it loses all emotional impact, lol.

SHHHHH! Weekes might hear you!
Weekes would probably first change his name to Cu'lle'n and make one of his parents secretly an ancient elven deity or something before he considered making his characters homeless drunks. Such a plebeian fate. ![]()

I don't want Cullen to have a tragic fate, I just thought that's where Tar was going with their post because they were going on about about fan tears, etc.

TBH, I'm not really worried about Cullen's future. Given what a positive overhaul they gave his character in DA:I, it would surprise me greatly if they didn't let the fangirls ride off into the sunset with him.
Of course... now that I've said that, they'll probably reintroduce the problematic aspects of his character. ![]()

They'd better. The way they keep dangling an ending like that with Alistair in front of our eyes, then snatching it away... *grits teeth*

Also possible. I've seen a dozen openings in his story for possible future twists, I'm just hoping they decide to let the fangirls have their day, lol. Poor guy has already been through the wringer a few times.

On top of that, in all the nearly 1000 years that Templars have existed, why has it taken so long for someone to break the addiction? What did Cullen have that all these others didn't?

Sex appeal?
LOL!
Seriously though. There lies the answer. A thousand years and we (the players) have only a tiny bit of information of those thousand years. Hell for all we know there could have been a Templar rehab clinic in the second age but The Chantry shut it down (shrugs).

Cassandra said something about it ... Mages speaks about their suffering but not the Templars. It makes sense.

I'm indeed aware of what Cassandra said. But why has it still taken, spoken about or not, 1000 years for some to break the addiction?
