Ceru, I think it all depends on what you want to get out of your art. Personally, I don't agree with some of your fanart cons, because I don't think you need to follow the canon nor do I think you need to worry about BW taking your creation ( they can stop you from making money off it, but I don't think there much else to worry about given their support of fanart). I also don't think you should worry about about what viewers want unless it's a big motivator for you to have lots of likes and accolades. But that's also a trade off, because you have built in audience with fanart... but have to build your own audience for original work.
Now if you want to create something where sky's the limit on the story you tell, then, that seems like a good reason to go original.
But again, I think only you know how important these factors are for you.
Thanks for the insight ![]()
I know that my reasonings are not perfect, neither that list. It's just something I'm thinking because this kid's story does not need to happen at Thedas: it's easier if I just take Thedas as background, but not a requirement.
And about audience, basically I created her as the result of musings with two different people: one Cullenite & my RL friend. Up to now I mostly draw things that's the result of interactions with people around me. It's not the accolade/kudos/like that count, but is there any audience that may allow interactions to help fuel & tone the story. I'm still new to this "creative" world. No idea how it'll turn out in the future but I'd want to help directing this.
Also, I'm seriously afraid that if Cullen or the quizzy got killed in future BW installment, I won't have a heart to continue anymore... making a character like this makes me attached so much (I already got attached to this girl just because of the dozen sketches I did on her). Imagine I draw her a lot & suddenly Cullent got killed?
Well, that's just my ramblings. Sorry. ![]()
