There could also be hidden repercussions that we can't even fathom. Imagine if he did go insane or die because the IQ told him to not take the lyrium? Wouldn't that be a complete kick in the pants - that telling him to "find another way" was actually the "better" answer? Or maybe he'll never "find another way." We really have no idea.

That really would suck considering he'll break up with you if you tell him to stay on lyrium and getting off it is what he really wants. If anything he might go off the deep end and you have to save him somehow but I don't think they'd kill him.

Sorry to switch gears, I've been chatting on Tumblr with someone who studied game design, does 3d animations and has friends in the industry and she claims that BW reused a lot of old mocap animation assets for walk/runs and random NPC's, but the cutscenes are mostly fresh mocap. I remember we were discussing this many pages ago, so thought I'd share. I don't know why I find this so fascinating and I clearly went to school for the wrong thing.

No, he only breaks up with you if you choose the third option "you chose this life." He will not break up with you if you tell him that you'll "find another way."

I have a Templar IQ playthrough that has a lyrium-taking Cullen romance linked in my sig if you'd like to view the vids.

I've seen the male "standing stoic with arms crossed" animation in numerous Bioware games. It's the one where the guy shifts from foot to foot, lifts one, then does a little side-twitch.

Look what they are doing with the HoF though - their story really isn't finished (unless they are dead) yet it seems that Bioware thinks so. And Cullen is a side character.  A very precious and important one, but not the protag. Believe me I want to see more of Cullen but I'm just not sure what will happen.

I think the HoF is a completely different issue, as he character was not voiced. It would be very awkward and immersion-breaking to suddenly add a voice to a non-voiced character, especially if that voice doesn't match what someone had envisioned.

Also, have we heard officially that they aren't going to at least tie the loose end of the Calling via DLC/expansion/next game?

I really don't think his story is complete, particularly due to the outstanding lyrium issue. If he stops taking it, we still don't know if it will have any sort of permanent effect. He's still suffering withdrawal by the end of the game. If he starts taking it again, we don't see that effect either, whether he continues taking it or "finds another way." I think Bioware will need to expand upon what that "other way is" and if it's actually successful in order to finish his story.

There could also be hidden repercussions that we can't even fathom. Imagine if he did go insane or die because the IQ told him to not take the lyrium? Eh, considering how other companion decisions were expanded on in the past DA games (i.e. not at all), I honestly doubt Cullen taking lyrium or not will have any future effects outside of the Templar ending in the epilogue.

Not that I would mind to see more of Cullen, 'cause there can never be enough Cullen in a Dragon Age game ^_^ . Buuut I don't really think that his lyrium addiction is an issue anymore. I wish it would have been. It wasn't explored enough in my opinion and it bothered me that his withdrawal was addressed only once in the game after you did his lyrium quest.

But I have concluded that:

a ) he is basically fine if he stops taking lyrium because there is no evidence that would indicate otherwise

b ) if you tell him you'll find another way it will probably happen off screen

c ) if he continues to take the lyrium he is still fine.

Whichever way I look at it, I don't think Cullen's lyrium issue will be a part of a future DLC. But I base this on the lack of impact his personal quest had on anything, so if I am proven wrong I wouldn't mind at all :).

There's apparently a giant library, but they keep adding new animations (mocap or by hand) "to keep themselves sane". For example, there's one particular walk animation they've had forever that gives Cullen's cine designer (who I think was also lead cine designer for DA:I and possibly now for ME4? my memory for the weekend is failing already) an eye twitch at this point. The twirl thing in Josie's romance was made for Mass Effect but never used.

To each their own, I guess; I wouldn't have a problem with a voiced Warden at all. The only way it could possibly be immersion-breaking for me is if it was deliberately horrible, like Fran Drescher doing a Dick VanDyke Cockney accent or something, and I imagine they'd try to get one of the actors for the few lines the Warden did have. (Come to think of it, Human Female Sultry might actually be immersion-breakingly bad for me... not bad enough to be sole justification for no Warden, though.) As for the Calling, no, they haven't officially said that. Some guy asked Patrick Weekes if there'd be an expansion where you play as the Warden, Weekes said more or less that people should be careful what they wish for when asking for BW characters to return and that the Warden's story had already tied up nicely at the end of DA:O, and a lot of people are taking that as "You'll never see or hear about the Warden again, the end!"

Well I think its official...<shakes fist> I am done.

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get SweetFX to work with this new rig. I have spent three damn days trying every which way possible. I've Googled until I cannot Google anymore.

I have no fricking clue as to what changed between using it on my old to not being able to use it on my new.

<Throws hands up>

Well no sweetfx pics of Cullen on this new rig. <grumbles and walks off to drown her sorrows>.

Tee hee!  That sounds terrible. I cannot watch family guy because of the wife's voice...makes me cringe!! Agree in regards to "sultry"...absolutely HATED that voice option.

Still, I loved  "Can I get you ladder so you can get off my back".  HAHAHAH!  Dem were the days!  :P

Honestly tho, as one who talks like an absolute hillbilly...just about any voice actor sounds better than me, so i am usually happy!! ;)

Ha, one of my favorite DA: O mods was the "Silent Warden" mod so I didn't have to hear my Warden repeat the same phrases every second.

There is a new-ish injector that works with Windows 8.1 and doesn't need RadeonPro. However, I can't try and help you get that one working as I could only get it half-working on my system. I was able to get it to load SweetFX but couldn't customize the screenshot key so I was forced to use the in-game print-screen, which is very slow, unlike RadeonPro's rapid-fire. I've been sticking with RadeonPro.

It just seems like such an ominous decision. I guess it helps that I've played as a lyrium-addicted IQ, but the addiction seems to be more woven into the story. You get to talk about losing memories, etc. It would be very disappointing to not see something come of it.

And, since Bioware loves to rip our hearts from our chests, I am keeping that in the back of my mind.

Let us hope Bioware does not pull a "Stefan" (from Vampire Diaries, if you watch the show). :P
