Sorry to switch gears, I've been chatting on Tumblr with someone who studied game design, does 3d animations and has friends in the industry and she claims that BW reused a lot of old mocap animation assets for walk/runs and random NPC's, but the cutscenes are mostly fresh mocap. I remember we were discussing this many pages ago, so thought I'd share. I don't know why I find this so fascinating and I clearly went to school for the wrong thing.
There's apparently a giant library, but they keep adding new animations (mocap or by hand) "to keep themselves sane". For example, there's one particular walk animation they've had forever that gives Cullen's cine designer (who I think was also lead cine designer for DA:I and possibly now for ME4? my memory for the weekend is failing already) an eye twitch at this point. The twirl thing in Josie's romance was made for Mass Effect but never used.
I think the HoF is a completely different issue, as he character was not voiced. It would be very awkward and immersion-breaking to suddenly add a voice to a non-voiced character, especially if that voice doesn't match what someone had envisioned.
Also, have we heard officially that they aren't going to at least tie the loose end of the Calling via DLC/expansion/next game?
To each their own, I guess; I wouldn't have a problem with a voiced Warden at all. The only way it could possibly be immersion-breaking for me is if it was deliberately horrible, like Fran Drescher doing a Dick VanDyke Cockney accent or something, and I imagine they'd try to get one of the actors for the few lines the Warden did have. (Come to think of it, Human Female Sultry might actually be immersion-breakingly bad for me... not bad enough to be sole justification for no Warden, though.) As for the Calling, no, they haven't officially said that. Some guy asked Patrick Weekes if there'd be an expansion where you play as the Warden, Weekes said more or less that people should be careful what they wish for when asking for BW characters to return and that the Warden's story had already tied up nicely at the end of DA:O, and a lot of people are taking that as "You'll never see or hear about the Warden again, the end!"
