Since he says "we", I've been wondering if the reason he borrows it so much is that he and the Inquisitor are using it to send messages back and forth while she's in the field.
Of course I'm not certain how messenger birds work in a world of magic, but I believe it would only be a one-way thing - her sending the bird back to him from the field, once per trip. He could probably send a reply with another bird if Quizzie was near an established Inquisition camp, though.
I don't remember much of the lore from the previous installments...I know there are griffon statues and symbols in this game i.e. the griffon keep, but are there actually griffons in Thedas? Now I'm wondering if the griffon is a warden symbol, I feel like I read some codexes in the desert place about it.

Griffons are the symbol of Grey Wardens. They are believed to be extinct after the Fourth Blight (read The Last Flight), but are re-discovered between DA2 & DA:I. Again, read the last flight...

Yeah I can see a message getting lost along the way...
Just outside Redcliffe a peasant sitting on his crate admiring the open sky. Out of the corner of his eye, he catches a glimpse of something moving to his left. He turns to that direction to spot a fennic making a dash for a bush. All of a sudden something hits him softly on the head then feels it rolling off. He looks to the ground around him and sees a note rolled up. He picks it up and unrolls the note. He reads it...
Inquisitor,
I cannot wait for you to return to Skyhold. I wish to take a nice long hot bath with you. Then perhaps once we are done, we can spend some time together in my-our bed. I want to trace every inch of your body with my fingers. Maker, just thinking about all the things I want to do to you makes me miss you even more.
Love,
Cullen
The peasant smiles then laughs and yells out "Hey Pete! Come here you won't believe what I found! Its about the Herald of Andraste and the Commander!"
It would be interesting to know what ending slide you get if Cullen takes lyrium and you tell him you find an other way. Maybe there are some ending slides we don't know yet?
If you tell Cullen to stay on lyrium only until this mess is over and you can find a safer way to quit, you get a special dialogue option in the ending scene (at the party), reminding him of your promise and comitting to look into it now. If you don't take this line, you get the same slides as if Cullen has not cleaned up from his addiction at all. If you do take this line, you may get the epilogue slide about the remaining Templars following on his steps and cleaning up ("may" because it doesn't always happen; there's a chance you'll get it, but something else is interfering in it and you may not) - but if this fails, you will get the equivalent "not cleaned" slides too.
There's no other variant for the Templar ending that depends on Cullen - the rest all depend on whether you allied with or disbanded them, and who is your Divine. (the best possible ending for the Templars is the willing alliance + cleaned Cullen + Seekers rebuilt + Cassandra Divine, for the record)

What is the best possible ending for the mages? As in for them being safe and equal? I keep hearing that Softened Leliana and conscripted mages is the best ending for the mages, but is that true?
Lol I just emphatically tried to keep scrolling the images up on my phone and thought the same thing..screw imagination....
But two layers of shirts under the armor, and then the fabric over the armor, and then the pelt?! Jiminy...it must get toasty in there...
*snip*
You need padding under the armor, and the inner layer normally wicks sweat away from you, which helps some. Hopefully the leather shirt over the inner one is padded, actually. And fortunately, he's in the mountains and probably the only person dressed sensibly for the weather.

This is true. dorian standing around in his belt straps and bull running around topless, you forget that its probably a bit nippy

I did exactly this for my first playthrough and really liked it. Educational Institutions instead of circles and Leliana is diplomatic in her methods. Haven't played another ending but was focusing on trying to get Cassandra who I think would do the same? I think?
Yeah I can see a message getting lost along the way...
That right there is why you send any and all such messages in code

That's... sort of a matter of opinion, I'd say. As is what's "best" for the templars... Here's a place to see all the different epilogues.

Okay. I am really trying to get Softened Leliana for my Divine in my latest PT and I swear if I get Vivienne again...I MEAN I LOVE THE CHICK, BUT BACK OFF THE THRONE!

Have to say the same for the mages as well. With softened Leiiana and allied mages, they get to rule themselves. Good for the mages but...what about the rest of Thedas?? Dun Dun Dun!!! Personally, that would scare the hell outta me, considering Tevinter...

*shivers* if viv became my divine I'd have to go back to previous saves and start all over. Just keep saying circles are baaaad and you should be goooood softened lelianna is relatively easy to get I think. I did it being clueless and just being sweet as pie...like nauseatingly sweet...like syrup on white chocolate on pecan pie sweet...
Some of you guys know that Melissa is doing a video for the Templars' plight and their stuggle. I recently found a song that could fit pretty well for the mages and perfectly if they were in an AU or in modern times.

This is a handy guide when it comes to electing a Divine. And there's a program out there which lets you look at and edit "Divine points" in your saves.
Inquisitor walks into Cullen's office. She is wearing you know, white pjs. Its a rather chilly day in the Frostback mountains, thus she is looking a bit "nippy."
Cullen is looking at his bookcase. Upon hearing the Inquisitor enter, he turns to greet her...
Cullen, "Inquisitor....(his eyes then dark to her shirt and sees something he should not) I uh...um...(he rubs the back of his head with his hand and feeling uncomfortable).. um..so its uh a bit chilly today?"

*nods sagely* yes...yes... I think that will do just fine...
What is the best possible ending for the mages? As in for them being safe and equal? I keep hearing that Softened Leliana and conscripted mages is the best ending for the mages, but is that true?
Well, I'm probably the wrong person to ask that. In my opinion, the best ending for the mages is also to ally with the Templars, rebuild the Seekers, and put Cassandra on the throne. It's the ending where both sides come out the cleanest and safest, and everyone stands to lose the least and have the most peaceful/constructive/stable outcome - mages, Templars, and civilians alike.
But out of all the possible ending scenarios for a strictly mage-siding game, I personally believe conscription + Leliana is the best ending, yeah. The conscription one sounds a lot more stable (and well, plausible) than the alliance one to me:
Spoiler
Alliance:
When Leliana disbands the Circles, they leave the Inquisition and reform the College of Enchanters as a new order. The College, they say will allow mages of the South to gather in peace and seek new solutions to age-old problems. For the moment, it appears to be working – mages are enjoying unprecedented acceptance throughout Thedas.
Conscription:
When Leliana disbands the Circles, they remain with the Inquisition and form a new college called the Bright Hand.To many, this new order represents the best of mages, an example for the rest of Thedas to follow.
You know, opinions and all; I think the 2nd leaves the world in a more stable and... credible place than the 1st, and it's the ending I'm going with on my own mage-siding playthrough.
Whether Leliana is steeled or softened... it's give or take. Personally, softened Leliana creeps me out much more than her steeled version, but your mileage may vary.
But who knows. For all we know, none of this will make any difference, as BW will just blanket out their own conclusion to the affair in the next game that wipes all the inconsistencies away and brings all the variable endings together anyway.
