I don't think a warrior could be that much of a neat freak.
I mean, he'd be getting covered in other people's blood on a regular basis, so I can't imagine a little snot would faze him too badly.

I don't know to be honest he's way too dedicated to his duty to allow any personal inconvenience get in the way,although for some reason I can't see him wear dirty socks like Alistair either.

Yeah, Alistair was such an adorable, lovable mess. Miss that boy sometimes. I may have to run through Origins one more time. Hmmm...*sigh* Anyway...no, I don't imagine Cullen would wear dirty socks, or even misplace them. And you're right, his duty would not allow him to be fussy in the field. His personal space, though...well, I could imagine him wanting that to be just so.

That has been a topic of much discussion, but the general consensus is that Cullen, Leliana, and scribe girl will be advisors, and the other 9 will be our companions.

General consensus is that Cullen, Leliana and Scribbles will be our advisors and the other 9 with weapons are our companions.

Personally, any hope of him being a companion I have is microscopic, and only there because there hasn't been official word. Like, I have practically filed papers to have him legally declared non-companion I am so sure. Granted, I'm one of the odd ones in that I'm pleased as punch he'll be a non-companion, so I might be the wrong person to ask.

No, I am a convert to the NPC advisers too. Which is problematic seeing DG's comment about NPC romances being (from memory, so probably not really accurate) less integal to the plot (or more difficult to implement or something less anyway) than followers.

I'm with you! I was always fond of the thought of him doing his own thing at the castle / keep / etc. rather than have him following my inquisitor around like some flunky. I also thinks this ups (yes I've come around, to some degree) his chance as a romance of both genders, whereas if he were announced as a companion I'd bet a great deal on him being just for the ladies.
On the other hand, I still have hope that advisors will come with the party occasionally to do something or other, which could explain why BW has avoided directly confirming that they're not party members. Like, I feel like advisors might occupy some intermediate space between "companion" and "total NPC". Although I guess that's also true of Cortez et al.

Cortez I feel (and definitely Traynor) were firmly NPCs in my book; Cortez at least you can find on the Citadel twice and briefly interact with him. But he otherwise is not remotely related to the plot ... could be anybody flying that thing, really. And he doesn't really influence Shepard's decisions or really have anything going on save for his own personal plotline.
So I think you are right in that Cullen and co. will be a "new" kind of NPC, the likes of which we've never before seen. We can't fathom at this point in time how they will blend with and influence the story.
