I'm hopeful that, as DG is aware of the natural pitfalls to this kind of thing, they'll be able to write a non-companion romance very well. If they know what's bad about a non-companion romance (they tend to be away from the plot, for one, or unnecessary) then they know what to avoid when writing one. And I think, with this advisor business, they've taken care of the away from the plot part, and Cullen will most certainly be a required part of the Inquisition as our general.

I was this close to telling Joker that dating EDI was the worst idea in the history of forever. But then I remember that I love Joker and I wanted him to be happy so I encouraged it. 
And then I chose Synthesis because it was green and my guide book told me I'd earned it because of all the planet scanning I'd done and thus the best.

One of the advantages of playing on the PC is that I got to download the fan-created MEHEM (Mass Effect Happy Ending Mod). The Reapers were destroyed, synthetic life did not have to die, my BroShep was rescued on the Citadel and was reunited with his LI Kaidan aboard the Normandy.
With all the things my Shepard went through he deserves some happiness dammit! 
at least now I have some actual cookies in the house to stuff my face in too
