Hi Sage, I'm Kat. I'm new to the world of Cullen fandom and the forums (after stalking the forum posts for a few days
Needless to say, I've been bitten by the Cullen bug...so hotI wish I could take pics of my screen on 360. Any feedback? Or is it only available on a PC? My hubby suggested I use my phone. I want a pic of my femquisitor.
Anyhoo, welcome (waves enthusiastically with a silly grin)
Welcome Kat ![]()
Holy crap! Been playing KOTOR 2 (bit of a snooze fest, but trying) and lo and behold, meet a dork in a cellar and his voice comes out and....GREG ELLIS!!! It's a toothy blonde dude named Disciple (terrible name...uggg). And my LI is a bit jealous of him, which is hilarious,,,cause in my mind I'm like "It's Cullen! It's Cullen!! None can compare!!!"
If Steve Valentine is in this game, I will just...die!!!
Anyway, been horribly busy the past few weeks, so only get to pop in now and again! Miss you all!
Holy crap! Been playing KOTOR 2
YES. BEST GAME. KREIA IS MY QUEEN.
To all the writers here ( I don't want to read any fan fiction until I finish the game,) I'm curious as to whether most of the Cullen fics are post in-game events or even during? I would imagine if you're writing during the events of the game that could be very frustrating and even time consuming.
Gorgeous screeny btw.
Hmmm the few pieces I wrote is usually about Alternate Endings or What Happens after the game.
Most of what I read is actually either Alternate Endings ("How it should have happened"), or "What happens after the end of game", or a "complete AU but still in Thedas" (What if Cullen was in run with Hawke after DA2? What if Samson was the one who got recruited into the Inquisition") kind of things.
There are also lots of interpretation of scenes of Cullen romances & romances scenes that is not in game. Normally this will end up NSFW.
Agree. The more I look at all the pics from the mod, the more I like it, even if the goatee looks a little Stroud-handlebar-like in the curvey edges and his skin tone mostly just makes me want to wash his face. Very, very slowly and carefully.
Very interesting mod, and I agree with nintetozero's comments, too. The textures seem a little uneven. I wonder if anyone will tweak it at all? I wish they could have given him his mole back to properly capture original flavour Cullen, even thought I'm probably one of the few. It really took me until I saw him talking to connect his DAI model with the character. I wonder if I'd feel all nostalgic if I installed this mod ... Anyway, they're both handsome.
Most fanfic I see does both, filling in gaps during game and extrapolating after endgame-- sometimes even narrating their own take on the main story in game.To all the writers here ( I don't want to read any fan fiction until I finish the game,) I'm curious as to whether most of the Cullen fics are post in-game events or even during? Personally, I have less interest in writing ingame unless it's a little-seen character (like Cullen in DA2). But even then... I usually avoid it, because I don't like being constrained. I recently finished a Cullen fic from a series I started before the game came out (Chocolate & Sex, as many folks here know), and it was supremely difficult for me to finish now that I've played the game. LOL Of course that being said, someone just prompted me an idea for continuing it.
Mostly what R2 said; it's all in what interests a specific writer. The one I'm writing fills in bits and pieces around the edges, especially some of the gaping holes (such as, why doesn't anyone ever ask why a Dalish or dwarf is at the summit, and even more, why that Dalish or dwarf? What inspires a non-human to stay after the breach is closed? etc.) It's almost exclusively conversations showing how a friendship between Cullen and a specific Lavellan might develop (it actually started as my answer to "what would happen if Cullen got left in charge of some small children for an hour or two?,) and I plan to take it at least a few weeks past the game's ending. I have another one in mind later, when I have more free time, that isn't specifically Cullen-centric (probably more Cole-centric) that will alternate between scenes in Haven and Skyhold, and scenes in the field, particularly NPCs' reactions to another specific Inquisitor.
Oooo, R2! *throwing chocolate at you*

... they did it. I cried. AGAIN. McGee had been converted to the Dark Side of the Force Angst

Have you guys talked about this yet? There's a new mod that gives Cullen back his old goatee and makes him look a bit older. It's called Older Style Cullen
(description: Our knight-commander: less shiny, more detailed, slightly older, tweaked eyebrows, goatee like DA2, etc.)
[snip]
I don't mind Cullen's new look, but I'm sure some of you here may want this
Ooh! I was hoping someone would make this eventually! (Hopefully they'll get his auburn hair in there eventually too--seems like that would be a relatively easy addition.) I was iffy about it based on the first few pictures but the fourth one onwards are great!Very interesting mod, and I agree with nintetozero's comments, too. The textures seem a little uneven. LOL I'm afraid so. But I won't draw it out for too long. That sort of thing drives me crazy, too.
... a teaser of chapter 13.

Hello to all the new people! ![]()
hi kat! thank you. and i think the advice on xbox pic taking is good... i play PC, though with an xbox controller because omg, the PC mouse/keyboard setup drives me nuts on this game. my hubby was so proud of me finally swapping over to the controller. lol

I think there's a lot of both. I see a lot of popular fics tend to be filling in the gaps - shore leave for ME, what happened between DAO and awakening, etc. I guess that's my take? but then, there's some stuff i really love that follows the game.
For me, I dunno, I play the game and then I want to novelize it - fill in all the plot holes, take the known scenes, reboot them in a sexier setting, etc. I sit there going soo, what happened before this scene? what do we know about so and so. So, when I write, I try to follow cannon with a lot extra thrown in - and all the 'boring' bits (to me, anyhow) taken out. I try to write the game like it's my fave adventure-romance that I wanted to read. But writing that way takes me forever and I'm a glutton for punishment? lol, this is why i only get 1 chapter up each week. XD
it's an interesting question. i'm curious what other writers do, too. so i'm with you, sky
Well, I guess Cullen is practicing for later ![]()

I'm wondering if maybe I'm just over-thinking this. What I'm getting is that it seems to be situational? Not in the sense that it differs amongst writers (clearly it does), but if a writer is using in-game material it's usually moments and snippets? Stick with me while I try and wrap my head around this... Say an Inquisitor has her own little character arc/scene set between 'Here Lies the Abyss' and 'What Pride Had Wrought.' Would you novelize Abyss? Or all or none of it? I mean readers wouldn't really know the IQ if you just started there right? And then what about what happens next, do you novelize the rest of the game lol? Definitely think I'm over analyzing this now. What gets me is that a friend of mine apparently read Cullen fic a few months ago while knowing nothing about Dragon Age having not played the games. And I'm sitting here like, how? How did you understand anything?
Idk, I'm pretty new-ish to the fanfiction scene. The only thing I ever started writing (for something completely different,) was a self-contained story. So I'm just really interested in how people approach writing for something as massive as DA.
