sadly... ^this.

Then again, MLaw mentioned two things they know the fans want: more exploration and more character resolution. I guess this DLC is just focused on the first?? Ideally, that means the second still lies in our future!! :R2 polishes the skepticism off her crown of hopefulness:

;) :P Good point. I was assuming the distant historical figure was the kind of "character resolution" they meant. OK, I'll polish mine off too. Well, as much as I can. For me, it's usually more like applying a coat of hopefulness to my crown of skepticism...

Has anyone played it yet???  Thumbs up? Down? Just more walking?? :P

The trailer looks cool... if side-quest-ish.

Hey R2 (EDIT: or anyone else who has seen the DLC credits!), I was wondering, was Brianne in the writing credits for the DLC? The following Twitter Thread post
Spoiler
jogged my memory of only a few of the writers working on any given DLC in the past;
Spoiler

ADDITIONAL EDIT: Also, I am going to continue to hold on hope that this DLC includes some legit travel banter acknowledging the Josephine and Cullen romances, like how DA2 DLC fixed that situation for Sebastian. Nobody disabuse me of this if I'm wrong plz. :)

The DLC is okay, nothing amazing. I’m maybe about a quarter of the way through and it does seem to mostly be just walking, still the place you’re walking around is very pretty and the Avarr stuff is interesting. Also there is some funny dialogue between companions in some instances but no new banter as of yet. My one complaint is that I really wish in the next DLC Bioware don’t put any more sodding shards. There’s only 12 but ffs there are loads of ways to encourage players to explore, it doesn’t always require a collection quest.

Edit: Also don’t lose hope on more Cullen content or Wolf hunt DLC. Given how well received the Citadel DLC was I think it’s safe to say the dev’s know that a lot of us want more companion/LI content and we know that they can deliver, it’s just that making a DLC with all that content takes a bit longer than just a side quest heavy DLC.

Just look at what happened to The Sims which I want to say was their flagship product for years. Sims 2 was a modders paradise and the modders made a ton of money on it because there was a demand for custom content and people were willing to pay. There are gamers still playing the second one solely because of the mods. And then 3 came and they completely cut it off. EA tried to add more customization options but it was a far cry from what was achievable in 2. I haven't played 4 but I'm pretty sure modding is still a no-go. I'd say EA just wants more money but as people have mentioned most if not all of skyrim's stuff is free. I can only guess they just want to "protect" their properties from....creativity?

Just a side note here, but.... this is a bit nonsense. Sims 3 and Sims 4 are both as moddable as Sims 2. There are thousands of mods for both of them just as there were for TS2 (the Peggyhair dude even made most of his money on TS3 hairs). There are a lot of people who still play TS2 more than 3 or 4 yeah (I'm one of them, actually), but that's because we prefer the old gameplay/neighborhood structure; it has nothing to do with how moddable it was - some of the mods on my TS4 now are even straight up ports from TS2, the games are that similar. Very little has changed in the modding structure between games other than the extra step in installing the framework, and EA/Maxis have never discouraged it, even as they sold their own DLC on the side.

EA has never been anti-modding. What we're seeing with DAI now is just the compromise they had to make for a larger in-house solution on the development side. They do save absurd amounts in investment by keeping the framework a community work between their dev houses. It's unfortunate that this framework had to be Frostbite, which was never developed with modding in mind because it was built for a multiplayer series (where modding means cheating), but there's no anti-modding conspiracy at work - it's just the sacrifice they had to make for the benefits their studios reap on the developer end.

This why I am starting to think this DLC is not a true DLC. I find it rather fishy that just a few weeks ago, Gaider mentioned in a interview they were starting on a DLC. Then yesterday out of the blue we got word a trailer was coming today, then not even an hour later there DLC was coming and then a few hours later it launched on Xbox One.

Personally it sounds more like"Shut up and have this." I think the developers realized they werer starting to get behind their schedule with all the patches. Thus most people were screaming for a DLC. Needless to say the developers were porobably pulling their hair out. They pulled out some random content that did not make it in the final game,  slapped a DLC and price tag on it. Thus it quiets down the riot. While people are distracted they can work on a true DLC.

Its not uncommon for developers to do something like this. They can be rather sneaky.

I for one probably will not play the DLC - yet. I already rolled-back to patch five yesterday just to keep my MODs. If the game had more stability and flexibility when it comes to MODs, I and many others probably would not be sitting here twiddling our thumbs.

:P

Well this is all news to me. I played the original Sims when it first came out up until 3. I've never seen any of the quantity for cosmetic mods that 2 had. I've honestly never seen hair, eye, or clothes for TS3 that weren't sold as dlc on their website. So like, sorry??

Kotaku has two interesting articles about the DLC:

Timed DLC Exclusivity Is Bullsht - one of the few articles I've seen about the exclusivity deal rightfully blaming Microsoft and Sony for it, rather than the studios they harm with this practice. (still salty that the next Tomb Raider is platform exclusive, sigh -_- )

You Should Be Level 20 For Dragon Age's Surprise 1.5GB DLC - only skimmed it to get the point of the headline (spoilers: the mission advises minimum level 20, duh  :P ), but this got me thinking I'll try playing this on a post-MQ save first. Should be interesting to see if the quest fits a later or earlier time frame better.

I'm curious...if this DLC is recommended to be played at say lvl 20+....what's the point in having new armours, schematics, weapons etc. Because at that lvl you're bound to be close to end game if not already finished (like me, I don't think I have any lvl 21 characters at all). Unless they are unlocked and you get them in you're special chest for new characters I don't really see a point in new stuffs.

I had somehow missed (or forgotten) that it's only this first story DLC that's going to be console-delayed. Whew! The new area in JoH looks ridiculously gorgeous, but given that

I'm really excited that those of us on last-gen and PS4 won't have to wait longer than the XBone crowd for those ones.

Probably preparing for future post end-game DLC and placating the people who wanted more armour sets.

Also I’m renaming this DLC to Jaws of Hakkon: Revenge of the spiders. Seriously there are way too many of the little buggers...

Maybe it's high level equipment? On my two completionist characters, I reached level 20 about 2/3s into the main quest, and by that point none of the uniques were useful anymore. Even my crafted stuff only went so far - by the end of the game my characters were level 25-26, and their equipment was really outdated, but there was nothing better available out there. Hopefully some of these new schematics go higher than the basegame ones.

There's also... I've only really found level requirements relevant on harder difficulties. On Nightmare, I never tackle a MQ mission before being at least two-three levels over the minimum required, and even then I still ocasionally take a beating. On Easy/Normal, I'd probably take a lv 20 mission like this at around 15-16 and it shouldn't be too hard to get around (...unless it has a ridiculous and disproportionally punishing final battle like Coryfish in Legacy, or Miraak and his fshdgkhcking tentacles and Seekers and Lurkers and dragons and more Seekers and MORE TENTACLES agh :P ).

Ahhh yeah that could be it. Would be nice though if they opened up for lower lvls once found.

Now I just got to finish my current pt so I can get it dl'd, looking forward to the new area and story at the very least.

Does anyone know if modded characters will still be playable once the mods are removed?....hopes so otherwise it's going to be a long time before I see this DLC.

They do seem to love the little (or should that be huge) creatures.
I might crack and try the DLC tonight, though with a completed playthrough.  But after a small break I am thinking about another Cullen romance.

Yeah I was just wondering what the point of high lvl equipment is if at that point you're practically if not at the end already. Though as you say completionists would be higher lvls, hadn't thought of that and probably are still completing the game post campaign.

I'll take spiders over freaking bears any day, the hinterlands really turned me off the things. As long as none are like Snowball!!! Seriously who looks at a spider and says yeah that will be a cute name...

I don't know about anyone else but I went into the DLC at level 22 and it's been a challenge.  I've gotten my bum handed to me a few times.

Not that this has to do with anything but I paid the 14.99 CAD and with today's dollar sitting at 80 cents to the American dollar and the fact that we usually pay more for everything, I'm guessing I don't feel quite as pillaged as people in other countries who are saying that the DLC cost them as much as half what the game itself was.

If that's true then that makes me feel a lot better. Imagine if they released something with your LI and you had to wait on pins and needles for a few weeks or longer, trying to avoid spoilers and slowly dying inside. Or maybe that would just be me...

Let us hope that it includes our Inquisitor's romance cause the whole Alistair showing up briefly in Awakening sucked :

I'd give Bioware my soul for Cullen to be a companion.
