And...I finally got an hour to play, and the patch broke my game. Completely. I surrendered and got my daughter to help me get it working (and there's nothing worse than rolled eyes and "Sheesh Mom, you're a computer nerd. Didn't I show you 'repair game' once before?")

There is no shame in playing on casual! I will never claim the hard and nightmare achievements... and Cullen still loves me even so.
And there is nothing wrong with that. I still do not have any of the Templar achievements on DA2 and never will get them. Side with the Templars? Yeah right.
There just achievements. Its not like Ed Mcmahon is going to bang on your door and give you a check for getting them.

Can anyone tell me if we have a confirmed source on Cullen's "mane" being bear fur?
I'm playing the DLC on casual and still getting my butt kicked occasionally. I did ignore the level 20 recommendation, though, I'm trying to pull this through with my level 18 Solasmancing rift mage.
I accidentally walked into a rift and was attacked by several level 26 demons. It was pretty brutal. Really don't want to meet that level 30 demon.

Thanks! Yeah, I got the lion's mane analogy, I just thought it would make more sense if it was actually lion mane (or the Thedosian equivalent). I was wondering where it was confirmed as bear fur? Because I did a search and couldn't find anything that wasn't fanon.

Cullen is from Fereldan. Within that country they use a lot furs for dress and decoration. It may also reflect where he hails from.
Its possible that the reason its not a true lion's mane is because Orlais country has a lion as its symbol. They may not allow the killing of lions nor look to kindly on those who wear anything pertaining to a lion. Much like India people with cows - though not in a religious sense.

Yes, Lola asked one of the devs and it was confirmed as bear fur dyed with red spots.
As far as the lion thing... clearly it's trying to *look* like a mane the way the artists designed it. However, there are many lines of evidence that point to a lion-Cullen connection being hooey. There's a whole codex added to DA:I on the Lion of Orlais, the only point of which seems to be emphasizing that the lion is an Orlesian symbol. Besides the fact that the helmet was only included in the early trailers to hide a glitch in his mouth animation.
The DA RPG set includes information on red lions, which may or may not have an been an inspiration.
A search on most of these terms in the thread will provide LOTS of information, as it has been much discussed.

Actually, since the lion helmet never made it into the game, and we know from Mike's own mouth that it was never designed for Cullen (it was a last minute trick to hide his animation issues in the trailer), it's the lion analogy that's entirely fanon now. 
Cullen's had the fur pauldrons for as long as his concept art, predating the helmet trick, so it wasn't meant to be a lion at concept - it was more likely a visual reference to him being Fereldan (fur is often used by the art team in iconic Fereldan designs, like Hawke's Champion armor, King Alistair's signature armor, Loghain's River Dane armor, etc).

Weird as it may seem I really love his more battered & older appearance on the concept art...
And... he looks a bit like Samson on the concept art tbh.
EDIT: did anyone remember the link of Jon Snow from GoT wearing Cullen's Armour & Cullen wearing Jon Snow's Nightwatch black outfit??? The latter was a fully illustrated scene with Cullen going outside the Wall. It was pale blue scene.

Also I saw a series of drawing of "Aging Cullen", from Cullen!Kid (12 years old) to teenage!Cullen to DA:O!Cullen to DA:I Cullen, Middle Age Cullen and Old Cullen. Can't find it anymore... Does anybody know if the modders are having any luck getting around Patch 6? The only way I can install the DLC is if I play without mods and I wouldn't want to do that. All I use are texture mods, but I can't stand the thought of Rhiannon having runaway eyebrows.
