They are just soooo long and FULL of darkspawn and I am claustrophobic (doesn't help)!

I hate to say it but that makes it sooooooo much more awesome!!!!! (for me)

I'm a bit claustrophobic as well, but the Deep Roads had the best atmosphere in DAO, next to the Temple of Sacred Ashes.

I legitimately felt like I was on an epic adventure.

Put me on a boat in the middle of an ocean with no land in sight and I am fine, put me in a cave and I swear the ceiling is falling on me. it's probably more that I am not a fan of dwarven areas, so dark and hot molten metal everywhere and lots of rock.

But I can't expect to like all dlc so I won't moan too much ;)

The Q&A referred in the video is this, by the way: Kotaku Asks: The Lead Developers Of Dragon Age: Inquisition

There are a lot of really interesting answers there, including some candid acknowledgement of the issues we always talk about in the off balance between storytelling / character interaction / world exploration. This was my favorite answer of the bunch:

Like that Mike's honest about it, and about how much work and energy learning the new engine took from the team that some things just had to be sacrificed in the end. It bodes well for the next games, even the next ME, that now that they're good with the engine, they can go back and fix the things that didn't turn out so well.

Huh. Some interesting responses there. I love how a few people have asked why they don't come to their own social platform, BSN. And, I also love how evasive their answers are.

Geez. I mean, what the hell is the point of even having this place if they don't like us and don't want to talk to us? Not gonna lie, I find it more than a little irritating.

Gotta agree!  The Deep Roads were epic in DAO!!! Dwarven Lore galore, the weird poetry and the broodmother.  Creeped me out and I loved it!!!

Caves can beautiful and epic if they are done correctly (and textures were not great in DAO, which may be why some folks did not like them).  In real life, caves are magnificent, after all.  But it is a taste thing too, I guess.  I always think back to Legolas and Gimli in LOR...after they explore the Glittering Caves together.  Legolas doesn't have much to say...cause...well...it is a dwarf thing, after all!! :P

BUT wait - if darkspawn and caves....do you think...the warden may make an appearance? Or wardens in general?  Just a teeny tiny little snippet, at least?  Hmmm...my brain is working now...(scary)

In any case, I HOPE we get some more Culleny goodness in future DLC.  The whole

Spoiler
line in the newest DLC was hilarious, but I need MORE!!!!!

Totally agree. "I only have time for twitter." is kind of a lame response (sorry, Mark, but it is). You don't see them having special Q&As here like they do on reddit and other places. And they own the platform. I suppose there's no point in pandering to us, tho, since we're a sure thing. :/

I guess those times when the devs would talk to us here are officially gone. :crying:

Mmmm, I think we can be hopeful he'll show up in the future, but I'll be surprised if he's a companion. This seems more like a 'we can't talk about unannounced content,' as opposed to any kind of Cullen-specific comment.

I understand that.  I see it as They cannot say yes and they cannot say no. Which does not mean its officially off the table. I will not lose hope in the possiability it could happen. :)

As for the Deep Roads in the next DLC.

UM. No just No.

I enjoyed the Deep Roads in DAO - don't get me wrong. I was not happy to return to the Deep Roads - again in DA2.

There is so much of Thedas that not been explored yet. I would prefer if we were able to go some where else.

Now if Cullen could accompany you into the Deep Roads...well then that would change things and my opinion. :P

It really is a damn shame. That really does not sit well with me. Mark was being extremely dismissive of some of the fanbase. That really, really bugs me.

In other news, for those who don't want to read the whole Kotaku thing.

1. They will answer some Solas loose ends, and leave others for future games.

2. They never intended/planned an attack on Skyhold... despite what some of us thought from the early footage. Hmmm.... <_<

3. They ignored the one question about Cullen as future companion.

4. Hakkon is an experiment with embedding more story in open world.

5. Confirm lack of voice was part of the decision against a Warden appearance.

6. Confirm again that LIs will never be LIs again (which means you better give my Lavellan some Solas closure!!!!  :shakes angry fist: )

7. More jokes about getting out of the Hinterlands, but explanation of lack of connection with side quests was "it all builds your inquisition somehow" so that makes it connected. *snort*

8. Vivienne had no story because "Vivienne's role is more to act as a voice for moderate mages."

ARE YOU KIDDING?! The Deep Roads was the best map of DAO! I loved that epic sense of being underground trying to make your way through age old caverns. I felt like I was in freaking Moria!

Not to mention how deliciously scary it was to hear Hespith's poem the first time. ::shudder::

They no longer, well over-all no longer post here because they got tried of being treated poorly by people. But the fault (no offense to the developers) lies with them, not the people posting. The net is filled with trolls. And since the developers who chose to participate heavily in the past, felt the need to defend themselves and the company. Thus in turn feeding the trolls.

The fans who want to engage in meaningful talks with the developers end up suffering and asking questions "Why don't the developers respond." etc.

While I understand the need to defend yourself in certain cases, when your a developer its best just to suck it up and deal with whatever crap is flung at you. Because no matter how hard they try to distance themselves from most public places and remain active in others, trolls will be there.

Interaction with fans especially when it comes to games is something most crucial. They need to pick their battles not engage in every single one.

Fans make or break a game. If the lack of interaction between the developers and fans continues to dwindle then fans will seek other game franchises where the development values and respects their fans.

Yaassssssssss. Hespith had some of the best dialogue in DAO. And her final words before she died were awesome.

This isn't strictly true. They do interact with fans. Just not here.

I am aware of that.

However this place has a large concentration of fans, not to mention it is a Bioware official forum.

3. Well, we know that he got the whole combat animation etc2 already programmed... I think that's rather something already... I'll be happy to get another quest when he comes like Before Dawn one, even if he's NPC but he's there.

6. Well... We kinda expected that ain't it? I'll just play as much as DA:I that I can stomach to enjoy Cullen, draw as many of him as I can and read as many fanfic as possible. I'm going to miss him a lot when the time would come though...

((out of likes  :()) Truly, all of her dialogue was pretty exemplary. That poem spooked me in the best way, and her sense of poetry informed most of her lines. They managed to pack tremendous significance into that one little NPC.

Another one I really enjoyed in the Deep Roads was Ruck. My heart just ached for him.

I wished going to the Dumat Templar was longer - more involved. It seem too short and the enemies were pretty easy considering I'm normally 22 when I arrive.

Uh, I think that would defeat the whole purpose of having romance in the game to begin with.

I would not be happy, say down the road, knowing Cullen can can be romanced again in another DA game. I'd be like, "But that's my Inquisitor's honey." :(

Lets face it.. This forum can be very negative. Not sure I would want to hang out in a place where it seems there is more negativity and hostility than constructive criticism and/or occasional praise.....

That's every social platform, tho. But,not everywhere on every social platform. Just as it isn't true of everywhere here.

It's a marked difference from even a few months ago.

Hahha!  As soon as I posted my "I love the Deep roads" post, the damned power went out here!  Total darkness, and spookiness (and a wee squeal from me).  Ummm...maybe the Deep roads aren't so nice after all.

In regards to feedback from devs...I almost always just check in here and occasionally peek out to other forums. So, i have a pretty skewed view, cause everyone in here is super nice, truly love the games, and have really deep and thoughtful feedback. I imagine it is a minefield "out there" for a dev. Still..I abhor twitter and will never use it as a forum of interaction, personally...so I guess I will miss some bioware fan-interaction because of that.  Oh well...I'll just keep hanging out with my fellow Cullenites and getting my info here! :P

Also...in regards to Vivenne...that comic strip where she is watching nekkid Cullen running back to the barracks through her little opera glasses...that is officially in my canon. It always makes me laugh and I wish it was in the game!!!

It's a shame, that was one thing that really stuck out for me here. I have been on the SWTOR forums, the ME forums and never did I see as much Dev interaction than here, actually the other 2 were hardly any at all.  It was nice to feel they actually wanted to be so accessible to us.

I guess tho after all the hate that has been thrown around towards the devs or more they have been in the firing line it's not surprising they want to distance themselves....

Prob. because ppl here tend to complain more about EVERYTHING they put out... so maybe they got tired of it and decided to go to a diff place such as Twitter or reddit where they don't visit that much, and they can just say what they need to say, without feeling too much pressure as they might do over here to respond to every comment

this is just my opinion ofc...

edit to specify by here i mean the BSN in general not the Cullen thread in particular
