Hi,

 

I have this idea from a prompt that I read. It sparked some inspiration but I'm not quite sure how I could make it work. It's been long since I've written anything so right now I'm slowly trying to build my confidence back up. So I was wondering if anyone could give me some ideas for it I could expand on? 

 

The prompt: The Three Shards

Write about someone who tried to kill the cosmic monster that threatened the entire universe. The catch? This character failed. Double catch? The cosmic monster shattered this character’s soul into 3 parts, so that they may never be whole again. Triple catch? One of the ‘shards’ has been reincarnated.

 

Personally I don't think I could write a story where Corypheus gets what he wants, it'd get kinda complicated for me. So instead of that, what if the Inquisitor's victory ended up having a bad consequence. Somehow pieces of herself gets scattered and everyone tries to figure it out and get her back again. 

 

I'd like some feedback, but if it doesn't seem like a great idea then I can just scrap it. 

I haven't seen this answered yet, but that may because because it's not a short answer. My own thought is that if it sounds interesting to you, go for it!  It sounds like a pretty significant chunk of story that will be soon become AU once we know what happens after endgame, but that shouldn't stop you if you want to imagine how it plays out!

Ah, domestic!Cullen. Or is that non-domestic!Cullen. LOL I always imagine an incident like this could be how my Chocolate&Sex Cullen started his friendship with Cook. Love it.

so..  THANK YOU BIOWARE !!! DAI in half price!!! grabbed it already ...but I just hope i won't crack my laptop trying to run it , if it can't handle it i will be a sad panda !  My laptop is 4 years old and i am kinda between min and max requirements for the game . it's still downloading right now and i will give it a shot later . just started DA2 and i met Cullen .. and angry Cullen i might say lol. it will be funny to see he's changing from DAO to DA2  before he becomes " desk employee XD

My biggest gripe was if you played it on a post-game save (i.e., after you beat Coryfifaceits, or however you spell it) there is no banter about that between your companions, they still act like you haven't fought him yet. (I had Dorian, Cassandra, and Varric with me.) This was jarring because other NPCs in the game did have post-game responses, which was cool.
 

 

I didn't experience this at all with Hakkon on a post-main quest save, all the banter I got was either related to the DLC, or neutral in regards to Corypheus. What I did notice was that the new area has a ton of banter trigger points, so maybe what happened was that you hadn't exhausted your banter between those characters and since they kept getting prompted for banter as you walked around, you triggered everything in their talk tables, even the oudated conversations?

Good luck! The biggest catch on DAI is that it is super RAM-intensive. Lower the visual effects as low you can go (it gets particularly bad in combat, with the magical effects), and keep checking the temperature of your laptop. If it starts overheating too much and you don't have an external exhaust fan, or it's overheating even with the use of a fan, don't push your rig too far, you don't wanna BSOD your laptop over a game.

why doesn't Cullen like dwarf? He is really discriminating isn't him? Even Alistair can accept dwarf but not our dear Commander. 

 

I mean dwarf woman are just short but look totally human (Harding is hot btw). I get he probably does not like horn or grey skin (Qunari) but i really do not get why not dwarfs? 

 

has the developers answered this?

He's racegated because he was added kinda late in the production as a romance and they didn't have enough time to animate scenes with the qunari and the dwarf.

but that would make him racist in the canon (esp against dwarfs).

Love it!  I'd expanded the "fishwife" military officer, Sil'na (I might have posted my idea of their first meeting for the 3K celebration?), with Cullen going to look for her and always finding her peeling vegetables and drinking tea with the cooks if she wasn't actively training, etc., with a whole story about why she felt most comfortable there. I dropped the idea of running a Trev warrior after we found out more of what the background would be, a lot of it irreconcilably conflicted (particularly the "destined-for-the-chantry" part, sigh.)

Out-of-universe answer: Cullen was added as a romance very late in the game, after EA gave BioWare the one year extension to polish the game. The developers ran out of time to add romance animations for dwarves and qunari (who have different heights and need specific adjusting for each cutscene), and romance lines and animations for male characters; and so they had to ship with what they had at the time.

 

In-universe answer: Cullen doesn't romance qunari and dwarves because he just doesn't. He's not any more discriminating than Varric telling Hawke he doesn't do humans.

No, what would make Cullen racist against dwarves or qunari would be hate speech or discriminatory actions against either. And seeing as he never says a single negative word about a qunari or dwarven Inquisitor or treats them any differently than he does a human or elven Inquisitor (he in fact shows nothing but utter respect and dedication to the Inquisitor regardless of their race, and even his polite declining of romantic advances by the gated races and gender never mentions anything about such races or gender, only that he cannot return those feelings), broad-stroking a "racist" label on the character for what we know was strictly a technical limitation is just disingenuous controversy-mongering.

No, it just means a romance never works out between him and a dwarf or qunari. Please just accept that time and resources were the reason and drop this topic which can only lead to negative discussions (and I speak as someone who prefers to play dwarves over anyone else).

I haven't seen anything of the sort yet. Cullen as an officer in ME, yes, but no cyborg stuff... This is an especially nice find because I just finished reading Dune: Messiah, and they had a revived character in there with mechanical eyes. Cullen as a ghola? Very intriguing Or Cullen as an android finding out that he is not human... Why do I like torturing the guy?

Yeah, ideally, I'd rather change my username everywhere else because I like ninetozero better nowadays, but everywhere I have riverbanks is one of those places where you can't change your username without making a new account... and I have a permanent/legacy/lifetime account or something so there's no way I'm deleting it and making another one.  Alas.

Good luck! The biggest catch on DAI is that it is super RAM-intensive. If it starts overheating too much and you don't have an external exhaust fan, or it's overheating even with the use of a fan, don't push your rig too far, you don't wanna BSOD your laptop over a game.

Going to start my second run through the DLC tomorrow and see if it offers anything different when playing as a mage instead of s rogue.

I don't think there's any dialogue differences depending on your class choice. Race and unlockables do how variations though, especially historian.

I wish this was the case, but no. Dorian and Varric would constantly repeat the same banter most of the time (non-DLC banter)...the "So, Varric, do you think we'll win?", betting banter of you vs. Corypheus and that they pick up again later ("How are you feeling about that bet Sparkler?", "Pretty good actually..", or some such). I go to youtube after a playthrough to see what banter I might have missed (especially after the banter bugs since launch). Trust me I've heard it all from those companions (new and old banter). And I'm serious about my RPGs, I don't consider it a completed game until the entire map is cleared (every nook and cranny).  So I hit the trigger points. On the other hand non-companion characters had much to say post-Corypheus and it was fun going around camps to pick up various conversations.

I got the Cullen-related banter from Varric in the DLC (when you are crossing the tree). But I am not convinced that it's LI-related. I think he'll say that no matter what, if Cullen is romanced or no, but I haven't been able to test that because ALL my characters romance him! Though I was really hoping for a flirt option on an unromanced Alistair Grey Warden at Skyhold.

 

The only thing that was broken from me were the messengers/advisors and war table (the convos would either cut off or not trigger), but that seems fixed now. But the point is this DLC is no Citadel. So if that's what someone is expecting they are going to be disappointed. Don't get me wrong I really liked JoH, but there are now more lore loose ends to close instead of less, which might have been Bioware's intention anyway. I'm not complaining though!

I don't know about Varric (never take him anywhere) but Dorian's Cullen-related comment seems to be a romance-only line; I tried it on a Blackwall-romancing Inquisitor and Dorian didn't say the last part about Culen.
