I've been very lucky with both my Dell desktops (2004 & 2010). Hell, I am playing DA:I on my 2010 rig, and it's smooth sailing. I replaced the power supply, and got a solid GPU, but other than that, it's the same mobo and processor. My Dad has had a terrible experience with his Dell laptop, however. That's why I got a Lenovo laptop. My ancient Toshiba is still chugging along quite happily, but it was too damned heavy, so it needed to be replaced :P

What's bad about an i7 processor? I always thought they were better than i5. I have i7 on both my desktop and laptop, and haven't had any issues.

i7's are very nice. I think panichord meant the price.

Anyways, I checked their website and CyberPower has customizable packages built around the i7 4790k starting at around $1,000.

Nice :) I am not up to date with the latest in the industry, but I am definitely building my own desktop next time. It was just so satisfying to choose a gpu for my current rig, and then install it, and see the dramatic performance increase :D

Cullen for OT by Ayu--K. Chris Pine as Cullen? Any takers? :)

That's actually really good! Chris Pine would be perfect if he looked like that all the time. Darn it - now I have to watch that movie.

A new GPU is a nice treat! You just need to make sure that your CPU can keep up with it, otherwise the new GPU could be hobbled by an old CPU.

Yeah, it was a beast of a machine for the first few weeks of owning weeks it. If it hadn't developed a overheating CPU then I'm sure it would've been solid. My only word of advice is to monitor the crap out of the temps and make sure your fans are kicking on at the right temps. My CPU fan never came on and would start up at 90 which is too late to save it from shutting down. Also should you ever have a problem directly request a tech who knows alienware, otherwise you'll end up with someone who makes it worse.

It would've been great for film editing and graphics work too given the sli, but it never maintained heat.

Hope yours stays steady.it seems like if you get a good one you'll likely not have many problems, but alienware as a whole has zero quality control.

Yea overheating is what I've heard the most problems about. I'll have to do some research about the temps thing, Idk if there's a built-in way to monitor that. I can only assume the fans are working properly cuz whenever I load up DA:I it starts getting loud, but I've found that wearing headphones mitigates the problem so I don't care about it anymore. I've felt the case during those times and it never feels hot, though I'm not sure if you could feel it through that anyway. I did worry about cooling issues when I was looking at the alienwares because it's this tiny little console size case and I'm just thinkin', omg the thing's just gonna melt. lol

I'm kind of biased as I don't particularly care for Chris Pine but I definitely see the resemblance in that particular pic. I'm totally going to go on a fancasting mission now, it's something I always seem to particularly enjoy. Off the top of my head I want to say Chris Evans but I know he's got some pretty sharp features. I will report back from the war table mission once I've found some conclusive evidence. Now would this be a Leliana mission with her spies? Or Josie using her connections and scouring through the nobility lol. Oh geez...what's become of me.. when DA becomes your baseline for using irl metaphors.

This Alienware stuff makes me sad to read. :( I never had any problems with the Alienware desktops I got back in 2006 and 2009. My parents still have the 2006 one (which still works), while I use the 2009 one. The only original parts in my computer, though, are the case fans and one of the hard drives. I've replaced everything else over the years. Sorry you guys have had so many problems!

This was my experience with Alienware as well, have had 4 (all from before Dell bought them) and apart from a power supply that died even the ones still running with their original parts do just fine. Sad that Dell saw their success and had to buy them up and ruin the brand :(

I'll never get a laptop. My b/f has one and I can't stand it. It gets hot and needs a special cooling pad, which is louder than my desktop when he's gaming. The screen is too small. The keyboard is difficult to use. Not for me. I like my 27" screen. If I want to game in the living room, I just flip a button and my desktop is there on the TV. If I need to use a computer for browsing while remaining mobile I'll just use my tablet. Yeah, I don't like laptops - at all. You can't change components or clean them with ease. My desktop case has cleanable screens to help mitigate dust/hair getting in. If I need a new component I can just open it up and swap it out. Soooo much easier to maintain.

I love my laptop, but there are times when I need something portable that is useable for things my tablet can't do (I have to use my own computer for a lot of my work.) I considered giving up a desktop entirely for the simple reason that on the occasions it does need work, it's too large and heavy for me to easily take somewhere on my own to be worked on---other than getting some of the components fried by the lightning strike that announced an arriving storm, only a harddrive has needed work on my custom desktop in 5 1/2 years. I compromised by getting a decent Lenovo laptop (though I'd have gone up a step if the specs for DAI had been out last April) so I always have a backup for work purposes. I love my tablet too, but it's severely limited (yes, I own all three, but not a TV :P.)

MSI Afterburner is excellent monitoring software for a GPU. For CPU (and everything really), you could go with HWMonitor or HWiNFO64 - they're both good. I prefer the info out of HWiNF64, and it can run in the system tray. I use MSI Afterburner for custom fan profiles for my GPU.

I work from home 100%, so my employer provided me with a desktop. So in my office I have a "horseshoe-shaped" desk arrangement that I can literally just spin around in. My work computer is situated on one side of the horseshoe and my home computer on the other.

You don't want to know how many devices I have, lol. I recently had to upgrade my wi-fi router because too many devices were getting it all confused. I also have two separate cable internet lines.

I recently saw him in Snowpiercer, and loved his performance. He really does have quite a bit of range. The whole movie was rather unique, and I liked it very much :) My general reaction towards him, though (so, yes, Cap could be Cullen):

ohmydearladybabyandraste. greendelle has finally posted part of her collaboration with eternalshiva. It's very very NSFW, but... oh my god.

*fans self* Not sure if it's the open fire in the living room but it got so much hotter in here right now...

I'm visiting my mother for a few days and I showed her a screenshot of Cullen yesterday.

I: "Isn't he a cutie?"

Mom: "I'm not impressed."

Sigh. Family.

If only I could put together a desktop, which is what I'm looking at now since laptops seem to be a bad spot across the board right now from what I've read. I've looked into ibuypower, which seems to have mixed reviews and digital storm, but their up sale on having an i7 is an auto no go for me.

I have an Asus Republic of Gamers laptop. When I first went home with it, the motherboard was broken. I had to return the laptop the next day. I thought I would get a new one but instead the company just fixed the broken one. I'm still a bit miffed because I paid a lot of money for something that already needed fixing. I feel for you. Well, my laptop works fine now and I love it. Hopefully you can soon buy a nice PC from your refund.

Interesting texture on the bear fur in that one!

My work situation is complicated (and I sometimes do a little contract work as well.) There are desktop computers available to me (in a fairly noisy location,) but not at home or even in my office at work, plus the work desktops use WIn 8 which I despise with a passion. I wish I had your 27" monitor; but I'm just going to add my daughter's monitor to my system for dual monitors this summer when she moves (she doesn't want to move it with her.) Sometimes I take notes from PDFs or images into databases, often with an internet browser window or two open with metadata, then I write while referring to information from the databases and various PDFs and Word docs, often all while keeping at least one IM chat window up so I can be contacted. Switching back and forth is a huge time waster. It's pure gravy that I'll be able to play DAI and still have other things open at the same time when I'm not working. :P

The fur texture is fontofnothing's. I really like that it doesn't have red in it. In my head Cullen is way too practical to wear dyed fur.  :P

My work computer has dual monitors and it's a necessity. I really wish I had three!

That explains the colors. I like the way that picture almost has an oil painting texture to the fur too. Though it brings a question to mind...would mustache hair grow in a scar like that?

Another use of the laptop---as a portable dual monitor set up next to a desktop when I'm not home to keep material up for reference. Honestly, no matter how good they make tablets, the screen is always going to be too small to do real work on for my old eyes.

I know Bioware's peeps have already 'officially' stated it's bear fur [at least I thought I saw it mentioned on here somewhere] - but I saw a screencap on tumblr, of I guess a codex entry from one of the games, I could be misstaken- about red lions. And it basically described the fur as being russet in color with streaks of red and grey.

Alright EDIT: So there was a DA rpg tabletop game that was released in 2010 and there is an entry on said red lions. Excerpt: "Red lions are usually longer than ten feet and typically weigh well over 600 pounds. Their pelts are a luxurious russet with grey-and-black striping, and are greatly prized by the dwarves of Orzammar."

http://dragonage.wik...m/wiki/Red_lion

And while I never particularly liked the lion/Cullen association I think I can get on board with this red lion business. But basically the comments on the post were creating headcanon around the speculation that maybe Cullen had killed one or something.

I really don't feel the Red Lion association with Cullen. This part in particular is what bothers me when applied to him:

Red lions are more than clever enough to wait until a group of people are distracted or scattered before attacking. If one leaves the group or looks otherwise vulnerable, the cunning predator strikes.

That sounds so... treacherous. I don't see Cullen being this scheming and underhanded as to stalk around looking for vulnerabilities and prey on a weak link to disturb a stronger unit. My own Inquisitor, sure, she's a shady rogue and the type to skulk around and snipe out that one idiot in the bandit camp who went off to pee in a corner - but Cullen? Yeeeahh I don't know.

He feels more like the type to charge on and meet the bandit group face to face, caution be damned... kinda like those damn bears in the Hinterlands who come at you full force, no matter if you're level 1 or level 20, because bear hugs and claws in the face for all. :P

Yup...I know this pain. My laptop usually sounds like a bumblebee riding around on a chainsaw :(

I would love to build my own pc sometime but I have no idea where I would start. I know I want something that can handle running Skyrim and Inquisiton (so I can do things like you and font ). I would also like to be able to stream without having to worry about my computer blowing up.

Anyone have a direction to point me in? I read through all of the things in your post, Melissa, but I'll be honest- I didn't understand a darn thing. *blush*

Oh no no I completely agree with you. I'm not saying he is like a red lion. I only brought it up as a possible explanation for his furry mantle as opposed to bear. Because to me it really does not look like bear fur but w.e... The comments on the original tumblr post (wish I could find it) were suggesting maybe he himself had hunted a red lion or perhaps one attacked a camp he was in etc. and that that's why he's wearing the fur at all. I.e. a trophy or mournful reminder.

Right, I do agree that it barely looks like fur at all. Even high res texures don't help much when the mesh is just... not that good.

But! Aside from Brianne's answer, I believe the Hakkon DLC has put our doubts to rest on that with Storvacker's veredict. ;)

But wait if Cullen is saying that Storvacker mistook it as bear fur, doesn't that mean it isn't? Unless I'm reading that wrong. Though I'm not sure why he would describe it as the lining of his coat instead of the collar. Because he doesn't really wear a coat? I'm thinking maybe he was wearing something different than his usual when he meets Storvacker? I haven't played the dlc but I didn't think - do you even see him?

OMG I think I just got it. Cub's scruff as in- literally the neck of a cub. Ugh nvm, ignore me as I skulk back into the darkness...

CyberPowerPC's website is actually pretty user friendly. You just pick a configurator to start with and it will tweak the price as you change out components. The site won't let you pick something that isn't compatible. If you'd like help picking out a build, just give me a price point and I'd be happy to help you out in PM.

Oh and seriously guys, am I evil because I just found and installed this mod? This is perfect for Theo's playthrough. She's a very very bad girl.
