I'm curious to know whether this was a flub or intentional, though. We know there was once a book of Shartan, after all. It could be a holdover from Shartan's influence on Andraste, though you'd think the chantry would have noticed and "fixed" that line if so. Unfortunately, the line took me by surprise and the subtitles had vanished before I realized what I'd just heard/read.

Hmm, I haven't gotten as far as the scene where Cullen is praying yet, and I didn't pay that much attention to exactly what he was praying when I watched it on YouTube. I was just startled to notice it (maybe because it was subtexted and reading it struck me where hearing it didn't.) because I'd expect the Chantry to alter the term since they've worked so hard to purge anything elven otherwise. I guess I just assumed anything they wrote for the Chant specifically is supposed to be tied back into that mysterious story of Andraste and Shartan and Maferath and the others. Ah well.

And I'd noticed heaven used, but it's not only a concept in a lot of religions, it's also a generic term for the sky and stars.

It's a standard passage from the Chant of Light, from Trials 1:14 You can see the whole thing here: http://dragonage.wik...of_Light_verses

Of note, an early version of this passage, presumably from DA:O, used the Fade instead of the word Beyond. Beyond was added in the Calling, which used a lot of Chant verses at the start of each chapter. Hard to say whether it's copy error or intentional. But given that they use it in DA:I, seems that Beyond is the "official" version now. That being said... even Ben Gelinas can't iron out all the inconsistencies... :P (for ex, Heaven is also a term used in the Chant)

(from the wiki: Dragon Age: The Calling - start of ch12. Note that this article originally included a slightly different version of this verse (citation unknown): I shall not be left to wander the drifting roads of the Fade; For there is no darkness, nor death either, in the Maker's Light. And nothing that He has wrought shall be lost.)

edited to add: LOL For example, even The Last Court uses the original "the Fade" version. :P

OK, I glanced through it quickly, and yes, Heaven is used a lot more than I realized. I do find it interesting that they use Fade almost everywhere, but the Beyond in that single place where it had been Fade originally. (I admit, in game, I find the cadence they mostly use for the chant grating and I sprint past the priests most of the time so I haven't paid a great deal of attention to most of it. The only one I ever really noticed much was the old priest in DAO who puts all the food in her chant.)

Honestly, I'll bet it was a poetic license thing.  to wander the drifting roads of the Fade  versus to wander the drifting roads of the Beyond.  Beyond is just more alliterative in the line, because it adds that extra beat.  Like..."99 red balloons"  versus "99 red luff ballons" (I love that song!!!)

Plus...I think it implies something beyond the Fade...ie, it is not fear of wandering the Fade...that place we know something about, that place that mages walk in, that place that some scholars have even tried to map, according to codexes.  No...it's the Beyond, which implies something unknowable.  It is...darker than the fade, and more abstract.  At least, that is what it sounds like to me.

Still...I wonder if they considered it was the elven word for the fade when they changed it or if they just did it cause it sounds more mysterious...good catch Tishina!!! I would have never noticed that!!!

Yeah, it's hard to say why they changed it. Honestly I wouldn't put it past the "it sounded better that way when someone was editing the Calling" type of reason. :P

My idea of what Michel de Chevin would actually look like... TBH I'm very tempted in rendering him as a blond guy without beard (the model is dark haired & his hair is quite curly).

Okay wonder how many hours have you all logged in playthroughs? Just curious. Also would you all recommend it to others that haven't really played games but is looking for a new hobby? My youngest is typing up a report and he wanted me to ask. It's for school he's been reading up on the graphics design all that went into make this game and how it's changed the gaming world. I have over 1000 hrs here. He justs needs some real opinions to finish it thanks for any feedback.

I'm logging 250 hours on DA:i alone. 2.5 playthroughs. The one who got the main story completed is at 120 hours.

I love this game so I'd recommend this, the thing is I told all my friends to start with DAO first...

I got like 660h (100h in damp), my main char got 110h now with the dlc. I did many char, wanted to see everything in this game, i really love it also. Btw i told to my friend that they can start with inquisition because i discover the DA license with it.

With all the codexes, we can understand the univers (mainly) without doing the old one  :P (I was so fond of it that after DAI, i wanted to play Origin and DAII, really enjoyed it)

Actual gameplay I'd say about 350hrs between a few characters. If I were to include screenshot sessions we'd be looking at about 1,000.

I have I think 110 hrs on my first play through so far. I just have emprise left and my next mission is doom upon the world. Which I think is the last? Or second to last? Plus any collecting afterwards. I would definitely recommend it to anyone or any gamer who likes fantasy and RPG. I'd probably tell them to at least play origins first though because the treatment of elves and magic in general is different from a lot of other games. Although skyrim is like that too.

I just finished my shorter, second playthrough. But I only remember that I spent 160 hrs on first playthrough. I'd highly recommend all the DA games. I've still spent way more time on DA2, with about 6 playthroughs. I'm already a little tired of DAI. I blame the Hinterlands. :P And the eighteen deserts.

I've read that folks can supposedly use this game as an entry into the world, but I would highly recommend playing Origins and DA:2 first, especially to understand the central conflict.

As a separate question, can anybody recommend a program to make animated .gifs? I have PSE 12 and apparently Adobe cut the gif functionality out with that version. I can easily download GIMP and learn how to do gifs that way if that's the best option. For video editing I use Windows Movie Maker, which is simple, but enough for what I do.

578 hours, over 5 completed playthroughs and 1 incomplete (my current one).

I really enjoyed this game so i absolutely recommend it to anyone that likes RPG games, but i would advise playing DAO and DAII first.

I do wonder how easy it would be to understand the world without the other products. I suppose overall they made it very black and white: you're good, Cory is bad, you need to stop him or he'll take over the world. But the world is much richer, IMO, if you have the background.

On gifs, I'd love to hear this answer, too. My main program is GIMP, but every tutorial I've read about how to use it for gifs makes it sound like a PIA. You basically have to chop up the video yourself into each frame of the gif. There may exist scripts you can install that do it more easily, but I haven't run across one. SO all I've done with it is edit existing gifs. pain. in the . ass.

My b/f is pretty good with photo editing in GIMP. He knows his way around the interface, where I know PS. I'm hoping between the two of us we can figure it out. He's just terrible at finding and installing plugins and whatnot. I've read that there is a plugin for GIMP that lets you import a video broken down into frames. That's about as far as I've gotten so far. I haven't even installed GIMP on my computer yet. That will be my weekend project.

Let me ask you guys another question while I'm at it. I have a hard time focusing on a single character to play. I tend to hop around and never make any progress. But when you guys said you wanted to see the templar romance I was able to focus and just play Rhiannon. What would you rather see next? Crazy Human Reaver multiple-romance or feral Dalish Cullen/Solas?

Well, i'd say, yea you don't have all the card in hand to understand everything, but lets say we can understand the main theme of the game.

I didn't know anything about grey warden / religion and whatever, but with the codex i had many information that help me to understand.

But as i said, after dai i had to play Origins and DA2 to better enjoy the univers.

I'm still on Patch 5 because Patch 6 broke functionality with SRWE, a much-needed screenshotting tool. I'll have to find out if Patch 7 rectified whatever caused the game to stop working with it.
