I can almost imagine the Inquisitor having to dance and sweet talk people while Varric and Sera are running around through a castle trying to break into the back rooms. I....think I'm gonna write that fic now lol

I was gutted when I couldn't take our companions into the Chateau Haine garden party with Hawke and Tallis.

If the ball is only a quest you pursue if you side with a certain advisor (Scribbles, for example) wouldn't she be the only advisor present on the task?  I wonder how siding with certain factions will affect his romance? I must say, the direct military might route has never been my bag. I'm more of a sneaky spy or political maneuver-y type person.

That could definitely be a possibility! There was a leak that suggested that the advisors all give you suggestions on who to seek aid from at an Orlesian ball quest. For example, the political advisor suggested Empress Celene, the espionage advisor suggested approaching an Elven spy (probably Briala), and the militant advisor suggested Gaspard, so if that's true then they all have some sort of opinion on it.

Not gonna lie, I'm not seeking aid from Gaspard so Cullen's gonna lose on that one! I really hope that choosing the suggestion of one of the advisors doesn't close off any interaction/quest with the other two... I wasn't planning on going militant very often, but I don't wanna miss out on any of Cullen's dialogue or potential quests.

I'm grinning like a nerd right now at the prospect of this, and I can't quite articulate why. I'm not done with TME yet, so right now Briala is the only one of the the three who doesn't seem like a pretty huge jerk to me, and the idea that Cullen would support siding with Gaspard means one of those two (Cullen or Gaspard) is going to surprise me in some way. Conflict! Some agency for the Knight-Captain! So exciting!

Yeah, seeking advice from Gaspard is definitely not something I plan on doing either (provided this quest hasn't changed at all since that leak). It will be interesting to see how it affects interactions with him. I must say, I'm very excited about meeting Briala though!

Technically, it suggested the commander of Celene's armies, not Gaspard specifically.

Hmm, well this changes things. Would Michel be the leader of her armies? (I'm about 50% through TME right now).

Ummmm, nope. He's definitely not, and that's all I will say without spoiling you.

Really? I thought they said it was Celene's cousin originally? Meh, either way I won't be working with Gaspard, just in case he tries to attack Ferelden!

That element of surprise and/or conflict is one of the best things about the Dragon Age series. :D

Michel sounds like a total babe, wouldn't mind running into him in DAI!

They called the person "Celene's brother" which we all know is BS cause she's an only child.

I see what you mean, Lola. Depending on how you customize a keep, through military, espionage, trade, when we arrive at said keep, the corresponding advisor will be there as well.

Definitely! I think it's also specifically the prospect of getting some pushback from Cullen on my decisions. I really appreciated the depth that Carth getting mad about being out of the Jedi loop, Alistair disagreeing with my Warden on the best way to handle the Connor situation, etc. added to those relationships.

I will probably prioritise siding with Briala, then Celene. Probably not Gaspard for a while, even if he didn't want war with Ferelden. I will side with him on my human though, if given the option. I just hope the NPC romances don't work with some weird hidden point system like the Quarian/Geth choice in ME3, forcing me to make choices I don't want to just to romance Cullen.

Perhaps originally Gaspard was going to be her brother, but then they changed it?

That's what I thought too, but I haven't got far enough into the book to be sure yet.

Perhaps, idk. Nonetheless, while he is Grand Duke, I don't believe he was ever in control of her armies.

I am actually really intrigued by the idea of Orlais going to war with Ferelden. [TAPS CHIN] I'll have to see how that scene plays out, if it's in the game still, or ever was. I am curious about why Cullen would want to side with someone who'd want to war with Ferelden, unless Cullen has no loyalty to that country. Perhaps he comes from elsewhere, and was only stationed in Ferelden? That'd be something.

He'll have his own army though, and being a Grand Duke, it'll be large enough to rival most of the other Orlesian nobles, including Celene.

By the way, having so much fun lol'ing at the fact that the Anglicised version of Gaspard is Jasper. Now I can only imagine him as Jasper Carrot!

I have a soft spot for men like Ser Michel  I hope we'll meet him, just because I want to take screenshots of him, and draw him. TME has so few descriptions!

I don't think Cullen would support another war with Ferelden. First of all, he's Fereldan. He's so Fereldan, that Hawke spots it the moment Cullen opens his mouth. Second, considering that the mages and templars are at war with each other already, and that there is a civil war raging on in Orlais, starting another war would be really stupid. Because when blood spills - Veil weakens. Cullen must know it well, because he's a templar, and because the Veil cracked in Kinloch Hold after Uldred's rebellion (the Warden closed it in TWH). And torn by the civil war, Orlais doesn't have the resources anyway.

I suppose it would depend if he was aware that's what Gaspard intended to do. This is all just speculation though, the leak is old and kinda obscure and it's clear a lot of stuff has changed since then. The base of it appears to be true though, Cullen, Leliana and the lady in gold and blue are likely our advisors.
