Hmmm is there any animation student/proffessional on the fandom? TBH It'll be interesting to see if anyone make any short animation though... There's Dahlia Lynn's Alistair Nightmare back in DA:O and Fenris' narrated short film based on Gaider's short story. But it's not the same engine anymore so IDK.

I've not seen this before!! Do you know where I could find it?

Huh, Cullen's character kit is a bit underwhelming. We've seen as much detail from fanmade 360 images of him. Huh. At least folks can get the exact color palette, I suppose.

I remember once (IIRC it was Gala) made a better character kit already... The colour palette is great really but the thing is colour depends a lot on lighting so well... to be handled with care

Emegustart!

Ooh she's one of my favourite artists in the whole fandom for inexplicable reasons. She just got her style. :D

I really love lurking her when she does artworks, it's very funny.

DahliaLynn & Machinima made it. Here they are:

Fenris' short animation

Alistair's Nightmare (a mod, I had it for my DA:O, it's something)

Did you ask him for a dance? I think they only show up on the balcony for a danice f you actually ask them at some point through wandering round the palace.

The option never show up :( i reloaded a save before the ball and i did his personal quest and got the second kiss. I think it's good now  :P

DId you read the short story Gaider wrote? That one was excellent.

Actually I love the short stories, especially Seb's & Fenris'. I have great respect for Elthina after that. It's very interesting to see how the writers put those to prose.

But it gives the actual RGB color codes for his palette, so those don't depend on the lighting, right? That's all I meant. Those seem to be the only "new" thing his char kit adds.

Agree that Gala's char kit was more detailed by far. :) Ah well, at least it's more support for the cosplayers, even if they've already figured it out. LOL

No I hadn't read the one about Fenris but I think I've read the one about Seb.

That's the one where he tries to escape and she's the one who helps him & afterwards he decides to remain?

Yeah, it is. All the companions have one actually for DA2. If you haven't read them all, they're a treat.

And speaking of cosplayers already getting it right. If you haven't seen arkady's fem!Cullen cosplay, she did a delightful series recreating the Wicked Grace scene. She claims he needed to have lost 22 subsequent hands! LOL She's adorable.

That's always a good reference, thanks ;)

I'm not sure I can really say this (please correct if I'm wrong) but from my understanding, RGB's quite a way of charting colour how many "pure" red, green and blue under a certain reference light no (and also grayscale to it too)? Cullen's mantle at broad daylight won't have the same RGB with in plain moonlight. It'll be much darker & have bluish tone (or yellow/orange, if there's a fire from candle/lantern nearby) at night. That's from what I understand, if I got it wrong please correct me I need to know

Yup, that's the one. All the short stories are really treats like R2s said, I recommend them highly XD

Just think of them as official fic probably?

TBH Seb's made me turn into his fans even if I don't ever get to play his scene in game due to bugs...

I still can't get over the boots. Every time I see those pointy things in-game I have to laugh and call him "Santa's little helper." That and there appears to be no soles on them, so to me they look just like giant brown pointy socks.

Honestly, everything from the waist down is just so not flattering on him. I think I remember the pants they put him in for the awards vid were way more, um, nice to look at.

*edit* I just re-watched it and maybe they are the same, just without the sash on the belt. I must have been distracted by the abs.  :P

So, last night I read yet another review of Cullenmance talking about how Cullen is the game's eye candy and there's nothing more exhilarating than to ruin the order of his desk and slide that man out of his armor.  It's all true, and don't get me wrong, I'm all in for sexually objectifying the Commander of the Inquisition forces, especially since I saw how nice his backside is with a wonderful flycam shot someone posted. :)

I've read somewhere (a pre-DA;I release interview, perhaps) that David Gaider said they were going to put Cullen in DA:I because he has nice hair and the chicks dig him.  True.  All true, but in the next breath D.G. said he likes Cullen and the story arc he represents - which is really what I would have liked in DA:I.

I want the Cullen who is screwed up about mages, the tension, and the knowing that he's got a good reason to be a little off about mages...and then I want to push a mage right up against him.   I want more Templar, more lion, more hammer of duty, more of the Cullen who was in Origins and II.  The eye candy is great, but geeze, the story arc feels neutered and like something I have to fix in my head or in fan fiction.

Thanks to whomever did the hair, though. :)

Anyone else hungry for more than candy with Cullen?

Frankly, I wonder how much of the "sugar princess bubblegum puppy" thing people ascribe to his romance would still be the case if they'd left him average-looking like in DA:O or ravaged-looking like in most of his concept art. I'd bet my paycheck there would be less fandom drama over him, or at least less of the primary line of criticism his fans get these days. I'd certainly have preferred it.

As for mages, I've already talked my head off about how I think it's more than reasonable that he's in a solid place about them at this point (he's already spent ten years being the character you describe above), so I'll leave it at that. I go back and forth about whether I wish they'd done something different with lyrium, though. I'm not sure I would have wanted to have to make a decision I consider immoral to prevent horrible things from happening to my character's loved one, but the more I play DA:I (regardless of which romance I'm playing) the more I feel like that kind of heartache and guilt is the one thing that's (mostly) missing from a game I otherwise strongly prefer to the other two. Still, I wanted a happy ending for him. He's been through more than enough. So I just don't know.

(I guess that's why Carth Onasi is probably still my favorite BioWare romance, despite strongly preferring Cullen as a character. There's a gut-wrenching horrible part, but there's no Thanelike/Jacoblike inevitable sad ending or Alistairlike sad ending that can only be avoided if you're OK with the Morrigan ritual and either you don't think Alistair is the best choice for monarch or you're a human noble.)

EDIT: Then again, "make a decision I consider immoral to prevent horrible things from happening" to Cullen: horrible things would happen to him either way if they'd decided to make more consequences for withdrawal, I guess, since he'd either fail to achieve his last important personal goal or (presumably) lose his mind. So I guess I would consider that a forced bad ending, on second thought. Better if the no-win decisions were in the crit path instead.

I can see where you're coming from.  Cullen is the guy who really is who he says he is - no secret and unsavory past to discover.  And he's the one who will stick around and be solid and safe.  The sweetness of Cullen in DAI is really nice.  I like the meat of him too, though, the part that is more than his hair, his fine bum, and his romantic dependability.

And I agree with you about Fenris and mage drama.  It was a good amount, but apparently not enough that I want Cullen to not be as Cullen-ish anymore.

As much as I love Cullen as he is now, they did water down his character a bit too much. Had him resolving issues before the game even began. I wanted to see his change from indifference to mages to accepting, I wanted to see his struggle with his feelings on the templars and I wanted to help him through all that.

I wanted a mage romance with him that was a bit awkward at first and him slowly coming round to see that not all mages were out for blood and power and him recognise his feelings for one when he didn't even know it was happening.

And I absolutely hate the way they tried to make him acceptable and give him justification for being there.

Having people comment on how well he was leading the troops...Iron Bull and geeze even Skywatcher had to get in on it, and I don't like the way he had to justify his opinion on mages when it seemed reasonable given what he went through.

So yes absolutely I want more than just eye candy with Cullen. The ones that already loved him didn't need all that fluff and the ones that didn't love him, well... they didn't need it?   :)

I'm with you.  This is the Cullen in I would have prefered - slightly ravaged looking, because he is - by Kinlock, the Gallows, and Meredith.  Meat over sweet for me, please.

Totally understandable and reasonable, what you've said.  Reading your opinion causes me to realize I want a happy ending for Cullen too.  And I think you're right that he's older, has learned, is more stable from his experience being somewhat separated by time.  I'd like Cullen's sharp edge back, though.  He seems a little too tranquil in DA:I.  Perhaps that's the vehicle to his happy ending, but I still want prefer the concept art that seems to fit his story arc a bit better.

Eh, I got over that quick. I've played through DA:O so many times I have no probs with the Keep.

I don't have trouble recreating my "earned" world states with the Keep because I had so many Wardens that every scenario I could possibly have been interested in seeing through Origins, I already have. Still don't feel comfortable playing with a world state I never did play through myself, because it affects my roleplaying. I know what the zeitgeist of Thedas is in each of my playthroughs because I know what my character was thinking when she made this decision, what my mood was when I went this or that way, so each playthrough is a continuous story that stays consistent within itself, not just assorted ideas thrown together by chance.

Does that make sense? Like, there are very solid reasons why Ariana Trevelyan follows Rowan Hawke follows Elena Cousland; or why Ghill Lavellan follows Mara Hawke follows Allis Surana. These are not random playthroughs just copypasted together, or random choices put together at the Keep for kicks, they are intrinsically connected and I need to understand them as one long-running story to roleplay the current character in a way that feels fulfilling to me.

Anyway, that's how I roleplay my characters, and yeah, it is rather OCD, but. To each their own manias. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think a large part of the Cullenmance is what you make of it. You want sugared sweetrolls? Go for it. You want drama? Go for it. My canon IQ is a Templar who romanced a Cullen still on lyrium - oh I took that one to a whole new level of drama - and anon hate on Tumblr.  :P
