I wouldn't recommend posting screencaps or anything, but if anyone else is awaiting WoT2 as excitedly as I am and wants something to whet their appetite, the preview pages are up on Amazon (including part of Cullen's article).

EDIT: It's not search indexed, but since at least half of the book seems to be redacted I assume it's not a mistake like there was with Last Flight... the fragment of his entry is on 225 and 227. (I'm signed in, which might affect which pages show up.) Which, combined with the index, means we get at least 226, 224, and part of 223 to look forward to, right? omg :D

What page is that? My preview shows all of those pages (as listed in the index) as "not included"

My preview says 220-280 are not included in the preview... do different people get different previews? I get a bunch of stupid nug recipes.

Man, weird. I closed the window, but went back to check after you said that, and now 225 is "not included" along with the others, but 227 is still there for me. No clue. I've got to keep the window closed now so I don't go through and read every page that isn't redacted for me, though--I'm definitely looking forward to it more now. It looks much more to my interests than the first one was.

The preview pages aren't always the same for everyone, and you do need to be logged in to Amazon to see more than the first and last few pages.

Aah I don't wanna look too much so I don't spoil it for myself before I get my copy, but this already looks amazing. Some really cute stuff for headcanons, fic writers and lore munchers in there.

Spoiler

I don't know much we should share (though it's right there for previewing by anyone?), but this part about Cullen made me squee like a little nuglet:

Spoiler

I love the Rutherford family.

Oh why didn't someone tell me about the wonderful dialogue Cullen and Quizzy can have about the templar spec? I can see so much potential here. All that talk about sacrifice and wanting to help people. It is definitely giving me ideas. Even if it disappoints him, someone has to take up that role. And those to whom much is given, much is required. Like, say, an Inquisitor. *tentative plans for Dalish Warrior/Cullen*

Alright, here's the two pages from the preview. This is not a leak, these pages are publically available to anyone who clicks on the preview feature on the WoT 2 Amazon page.

Spoiler

There's no higher quality and the rest of his entry is not available for previewing. This is as is, same as if you went there and clicked on the preview link. (okay mods? this is a public preview, not a leak, for the love of Andraste's dimpled buttcheeks, please don't close our thread again over this.) please

That's not even the only time you have dialogue options unique to Templar Inquisitors with him. You have more input as a Templar on his personal quest, and other important conversations along the way. And he's not even disappointed in you (his disappointment is largely with himself rather than any Templar at large); he may not personally like the idea of you taking lyrium but he will always respect that it's your decision to make.

Really, the Templar romance with him is fantastic, it's full of its own complex nuances and particular conflicts that you only get through this unique angle of making Cullen face his worst fears in the person he loves the most. And you're not restricted to one interpretation either: you can take it anywhere, from the deep angsty end of "wrong for each other" as Mel did with her Templar IQ to the sweetest high of "made for each other" as I did with mine. All depends on where you personally wanna take it.

"They were very loud and sometimes threw me in the lake."

That also answers at least half of my question about the names of his other siblings. Such a lovely name, too! ...even it just killed a potential IQ with exactly that name that I was planning to romance him with in the future.... whoops incesty undertones.  :P All that's missing is Younger Brother now.

As much as I love Cullen as he is now, they did water down his character a bit too much. Had him resolving issues before the game even began. I wanted to see his change from indifference to mages to accepting, I wanted to see his struggle with his feelings on the templars and I wanted to help him through all that.

I wanted a mage romance with him that was a bit awkward at first and him slowly coming round to see that not all mages were out for blood and power and him recognise his feelings for one when he didn't even know it was happening.

And I absolutely hate the way they tried to make him acceptable and give him justification for being there.

Having people comment on how well he was leading the troops...Iron Bull and geeze even Skywatcher had to get in on it, and I don't like the way he had to justify his opinion on mages when it seemed reasonable given what he went through.

So yes absolutely I want more than just eye candy with Cullen. The ones that already loved him didn't need all that fluff and the ones that didn't love him, well... they didn't need it?   :)

I think a large part of the Cullenmance is what you make of it. You want sugared sweetrolls? Go for it. You want drama? Go for it. My canon IQ is a Templar who romanced a Cullen still on lyrium - oh I took that one to a whole new level of drama - and anon hate on Tumblr.  :P

Yeah, it's hard not to get back onto this particular soap box, but yes, * beleaguered sigh* I feel like too much of his character arc -- which was a good one! -- was resolved off camera. Instead, they painted over the problematic aspects of his character to the point that fans say "even HE hated himself before." And that bugs me.

I'm glad that there are still complexities to be found in his lyrium and addiction angle for some players... but to be honest, lyrium was the LEAST of the things I was interested in examining further with him. So for me, becoming a templar just when he has quit...well, that's just not in the cards for what I wanted out of the story (altho, usual disclaimer: I'm very glad other folks can enjoy that arc with him!).

I'm also glad he gets a happy ending, as that's definitely what I want for him. But there were other complexities I wanted to see in his storyline on the way to that happy ending. *sigh* So... instead we get the romanticized version...

I'm with you on that. Though since I never play a pro-chantry type, going Templar at all is really unlikely for me (I expect that connection to be reestablished quickly in any worldstate that recreates the Templars.) Though the thought of a dwarven Templar with personal connections to the illegal lyrium trade makes me giggle for some reason.

I think that's even what I like about the Templar romance? Because I'm still not over him leaving the Templars. Probably never will get over it, at this point. So that romance at least gave me options to confront him about that in ways that my rogue romance didn't. I mean, I still love my rogue romance best of the two because I just like that warrior/rogue dynamic more than anything, but at no point in that romance I have any option to question him about his life choices beyond this sense of "look, it's done and I don't wanna talk about it" - while my Templar could at least stand her ground and tell him, "no we are going to talk about this."

Sigh. I know it's projection, but I'm still not okay with this particular change in his character, and at least that romance gave me a vessel to make him say something about it for himself. Still generally unsatisfying at the end of it, but it's something where the other version of my romance gave me nothing.

Yeah, I can totally see that. At least it delves into some of his feelings towards the Order... even if they're suspiciously black and white. <_<

I like it because that's how I run my more heroic characters. Privileged either by background or talent, they are aware of that privilege and feel compelled to use it to help those less fortunate. It's why the mage I'm running right now is an Amell--she may no longer be a noble, but still has the obligations of one. It's why I choose US. So templar!Inquisitor/Cullen actually enhances my RP enjoyment on top of giving me a LI who treats me well.

You got it perfectly! That's exactly what I was going for. Rhiannon and Cullen aren't good for each other, but they need each other - totally toxic situation. I hope hope hope they have a happy ending. I've added to my "head canon" that Rhiannon has decided that she is going to work with Cass to help rebuild the Seekers and Templar Order. Together they'll try to come up with a way for the Templars to do their job without the lyrium. This is all until Bioware says otherwise of course. I hope they give us an official answer to the lyrium thing but who knows.

Don't get me wrong, I like the "happy" stories too, but I tend to gravitate towards the angsty, sad tales when it comes to video games, movies, books, etc. I guess it could be because I don't like that sort of drama in my real life, so I enjoy shaking things up with my fiction? I dunno, that reason makes sense to me, lol.

I did get some hate for that vid, but honestly I got more kudos than anything. Someone even got some inspiration for it for a really great (and sad!) fic:

http://archiveofouro...g/works/3720085

And if only one person got inspiration from it, that's enough for me. I'm very happy about it, and I will be making others of my other IQ's.

The short story you linked is really good. That kind of brings it home about angsty, dark tales.  Romeo and Juliet, and similar romance tragedies,  just don't make the same statement about love, the totality of true love, if the characters live the easy life happily ever after.

I also understand that even though I gravitate toward the dark, difficult, scary stuff in games, books, and movies, some people get enough of that already and just want to play their game to have fun and relax.  Perhaps it's like combat.  Some like casual, some like nightmare. :)

Thank you for the fanfic, and again for the background and vids for your Templar Inquisitor.

Long live, Cullen!
