I actually feel really guilty when I accidently kill a fennec, there's so cute!

Yeah, I hate killing the fennecs. Not so much the dragons, at least where they are living near people. OTOH, I may have finally almost have vented my spleen on the nugs for the horrible high pitched squeeks in DAO. Almost. (Don't hate me, remember they aren't real.)

It seems she's openly transgender and began living as a woman when she was fifteen. Her dad, Magister Athanir Tilani, was a super good guy who let her do it despite the scandal and the fact she was his only heir. It seems she never officially married Thorold either. Argh, I hope she's got a prominent role in DA4! They certainly hint at it, saying her push for reforms will lead to her success or ruin.

I wish all this WoT info hadn't come out. Not because I dislike spoilers. To the contrary, I love spoilers! The problem is that whenever I get new DA info, I end up with my tinfoil hat on scouring the DA Wiki for hours and ruminating over possible implications and coming up with weird theories. I hope/know I'm not the only one here that does this.

 

Right now I'm obsessing over the continuing spread of red lyrium and the potential huge impact it could have on Thedas if the entire supply of the worlds lyrium became poisoned and therefore unusable. Just imagine the impact on the Dwarves economy, the Chantry, the Templar Order and the Mages!

Interesting that they kept his temporary stay at that Templar repose home canon. (what was the name of the place again?) Was thinking they'd dismissed that or even forgotten about that line at this point. Gaider did forget Celia Mac Tir existed the other day...

Is the part about Greenfell being a Templar retirement home canon? I just remember the gossiping mage saying it was a quiet chantry with a lot of fresh air or something. Even if it wasn't canonically a retirement home I can imagine that anyplace they'd send him after that experience would be the same kind of place they'd send older templars, and the whole experience influencing his later decision to quit lyrium. And I like the idea of Greagoir only having transferred him to another Circle after other measures to help him recover didn't work.

Also, the bit about his quietly resenting the Kinloch Hold templars who weren't left behind the locked tower door. I'd always imagined him clinging harder to them because at least not all of his friends were dead, but in a way that makes more sense (given his happiness to leave, his dismissal of Kirkwall templars as "spoiled", etc.).

I'm finding that's actually a rather good thing, because you can set very distinct casual looks for each race, without swapping files around every time you want to play a different character. Dwarves have less retextures than humans so far (though elves have the most retextures out of all), but the ones I've seen specifically for them are very pretty and appropriately dwarven-like.

Also tyrrda bright axe, i think. i mean, there's that whole bit where her 'leaf eared lover' (solas??? ew?? maybe??) says he won't give her a child because she's going to eventually have a line that ends with The Morrigan and so she needs to sleep with some dwarf to get her baby-line on << this is in stanza 7, which you get from staking claim to the main village in the hinterlands where mother giselle is. anyhow, it's all anglo-saxony-poetry-y and very hard to understand, but i totally read that as tyrrda might also have been another part of that. or she's flemeth's great grandmother somehow.

 

but the biggest 'proof' (?) might be the pointy hats. i mean, flemeth's hat is like andraste's (the one meredith and all chantry statues mimic) and there are tyrdda statues that have the same. so if the hat is the same, clearly they are all mythal.  or something

Just as Flemeth showed us in DA2 that she can split herself should the worst come to worst, I think this is what Mythal has done. I also got Yavana's page in the WoT and it seems she's been around for longer than she should have been able to, (as well as hinting she may have survived somehow). I think Yavana had a piece of Mythal in her as well, just as Flemeth did, just as Andraste, Vivial and Tyrrda probably did, and just as Morrigan does now.

I always pictured the Chantry there being sort of place where the clergy were mostly healers and therapists who could help him.

(and... I personally think the lyrium story they gave him in DA:I is just part of their simplification of his story line... "now that templar order = bad, we'll have his issue be the one-dimensional, canonical templar issue that everyone hates them for... lyrium." /end unpopular opinion)

To be sure, the idea of Greenfell as a Templar retirement home is something that's been stuck on my mind forever and pretty unlikely to be canon. All I know is that that line about Cullen in Witch Hunt immediately lit a lightbulb in my head the first time I played it, thinking "aaah that place where the elder Templars retire to that was referenced in [Maker knows where I took that from now]." That was years ago and I couldn't begin to source where I saw that name associated with that function at this point, so chances are I just got a couple names confused at the time and the idea just stuck for me, even if incorrect.

 

As for the other bit, I'm still processing the part of how Cullen dealt with the aftermath of Broken Circle.

I'm not sure I like it yet, this more histrionic reaction, the victim blaming, the projecting and resentment. It's not... how I imagined he would be as a survivor. I guess the issue is just that, we had nothing for so long and had to fill it with something, and now that we have canon it doesn't match what we substituted.

 

But I sure won't turn up my nose to finding more and more about Cullen through official sources, filling in the gaps wherever we can with actual character background and not just our projections of what he would or would not have done. So yeah, it's not what I imagined, but it's something to sleep on and work with, always summing to the whole of his character.

 

tbh I'm probably more frowny about the fact that this section renders a lot of my fics innaccurate, because I went with a whole different approach to the issue and now it's all wrong. Canon has a way to render all our fics AU some day, alas.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but Witch Hunt is canon. The thing is... this exchange was said by a couple of gossips who seemed to have an axe to grind with the Warden, so they're unreliable narrators. Plus, Cullen's stay in Greenfell hasn't been mentioned anywhere else. Given the tight timeline between DA:O and Act I of DA2, it was hard to be certain how it fit. But, I've always felt it was likely this episode did happen, since Witch Hunt was in development at the same time as DA2 and features a number of references to Kirkwall and other DA2 topics.

 

 

So, anyway, it's nice to see the devs likely intend it to happen that way, even if they didn't say Greenfell specifically.

Cullen's DA2 codex has always sounded to me like he was hugely unstable at Kinloch Hold.

"After Cullen returned to his duties, it became clear that he would go to any lengths to enforce the Chantry's rule. His zeal troubled Knight-Commander Greagoir, who feared it unwise to let Cullen watch over the men and women he deemed responsible for his torment."

It follows for me that he would have alienated everyone who hadn't experienced what he had, mirroring some of the paranoia he evinced when he was in the pink bubble of woe. The mages caused his pain. And the other templars don't appreciate the gravity of their duty and the threat the mages pose. Just like the Warden didn't. :/  "I hope you haven't doomed us all."

"I have no answer to that except 'oh'"

I'll be no bloody help with this addiction as I am similarly addicted and do not wish for a cure.

 

Honestly, in my first playthrough (which I always intend to be my "canon" one) I was trying to romance Solas. Then I found out he didn't dig anyone who wasn't Elven After Solas shot me down, Cullen was right there and *BAM* I haven't looked back since. Even my elvish Inquisitor kicked everyone else to the curb and bee-lined for Cullen. Sorry Solas, I regret nothing.

I'll second this.  I have two characters so far that have romanced Cullen and I have some of the video up on YouTube and watch when the mood takes me.  It's helped greatly in my Dorian and Iron Bull romance playthroughs.

 

Just a side rant that doesn't have to do with Cullen.

I went to order the N7 bunny hug that I've wanted for awhile and even though Bioware is a Canadian company, everything is in US funds so instead of 60.00 for it, it's gonna be 73.00 and then I have to pay another 26.00 for shipping (supposedly doesn't include duty fees. *whew*).  I can't believe that I'm going to pay 100.00 for a bunny hug.
