Ok, bit of a rant (apologies in advance!)...
Honestly, this is my one of my biggest gripes with Bioware on DA:I. Um, Guys...Where is my mabari!?! I don't even mean getting/giving one in a romantic sense. I just want my dog! I went through my first playthrough thinking, "yep, anytime now I should be getting my dog."
*time passes* "Oh look, mabari are attacking me during my travels! So all the code is there to make it happen! Maybe there will be a quest to get my dog."
*time passes* *game ends* ![]()
Even with the Black Emporium patch I'm hoping against hope that I can get my dog back. Seriously, the only two things I hope for in a DLC (or patch) besides lore/character development stuff is:
1. My mabari. (If they did this as a romance thing, it could work. It would be perfect for a Cullenmance, sure, but I would hope it would be open to all romances.)
2. The "rescue your character" quest, where the companions have to save you for a change. Seriously, this is typically one of the funniest/fun quests they create. It's practically a requirement that this needs to happen in DA:I.
Edit: Also who scored high in the ranks when they did the survey/poll of characters...Yep, "Dog". Come on Bioware. ![]()
Yeah, I mean non-romance drama. Romance drama only affects a small number of players in the large scheme of things, character deconstruction affects everyone.
Like, even if you romanced no one in DAO and DA2, your hero's life was still a crumbling mess from day one, and it went downhill from there. The Warden always came from some manner of personal tragedy, and had all these emotional encounters throughout the story that twisted the knife just when the wound was starting to heal. Hawke's life... it would be comic how everything goes so utterly wrong for Hawke 100% of the time, if it wasn't so heartbreaking. And then when you think Hawke is finally going to catch a break, it gets even worse. The Inquisitor, on the other hand, just coasts through, saves the day, suffers little to no personal loss, and literally rides off into the sunset at the end of the day with not a care in the world. The worst personal drama I can think of is the Lavellan clan thing, which is indeed awful but is also brushed aside and forgotten about in two seconds, and it can be avoided altogether once you learn the trick. You can't avoid losing Tamlen and having him come back to break your Mahariel's heart, for instance.
I mean, my Inquisitors may have ~problematic love interests and rocky relationships (even with Cullen) and all manner of drama on the romance level, but I don't feel any of them suffered any significant "oomph" from the story on a personal level. Not in the same way that I can recall crying like a baby when my Cousland confronted Howe, or my Brosca confronted Leske, or how my Tabris was too late to protect Shianni, or that time Carver almost died on me on the Deep Roads, or that time my Hawke was so busy saving everyone else that she couldn't save her own mother... that's the kind of emotional impact and personal growth I feel the Inquisitor is sorely missing. I wouldn't mind my IQs being put through the grinder a bit, not for tragedy for tragedy's sake, but just to get more depth into the character than the linear #winning story they ended up with.
I agree, DAI was a lot less personal that way, I think it's one of the reasons it's easy to obsess a bit on the LI stories. I remember thinking "vengeance!" when my Couslands and my Tabrises killed Howe (he was responsible for the purge of the Alienage, after all.) And my Tabrises killing Lord Vaughn and his friends was extremely satisfying. My Brosca's biggest moment was killing Beraht before he could do anything to Rica. It would have been nice if we'd have had at least one encounter in person with someone from our past (family member, carta?) Though the Trevelyan theoretically lost family in the explosion at the conclave, but I never had the feeling it was even mentioned later. I've ended up with the feeling that one conversation with Josephine is about it for establishing specifics of your background, and only a tiny bit, though Blackwall does comment vaguely on a Cadash belonging to the Carta.
OK, some people may find this one a little disturbing.

This story was a bit too cheesecake godmode for the Inquisitor anyway...
Not that this has anything to do with the topic at hand but Cheesecake Godmode would make an awesome band name.
*ahem*
As you were.
To end the debate (or not, I don't follow it) and because I'm a tiny elf with big head who loves being Off Topic, I just send my favourite Grey Warden. Y'all need some Darkspawn.
Duncan!!!!!
:swoon:
OT but I wanted to vent that SOME IDIOT BACKED INTO MY CAR in a parking lot! I was just dropping it off at an audio install place and the stupid girl wasn't even looking! I need Cullen hugs....
Aw, glad you're OK.

And thank the Maker for that. Without Cullen's relatively simple, honest, loving romance, the game would've been a wasteland in terms of the heart for my gals. So nice to have "sure and steady" as a choice at last.
Thinking last night, trying to think of something that would be broadly important (and hoping Patrick wasn't planning to do something awful in relation to Cullen and the lyrium withdrawal)...

Oh please no. ![]()
Unless there's an engagement kittens option. But I still expect the 3 month salary rule to apply. And I'm also hoping with the Inquisition as powerful as it is Cullen's got quite the hefty salary by now.

My IQ would probably give Cullen an engagement kitten in return. Ari could really use a sturdy war hound in the battlefield now since her two favorite meat shields left the Inquisition (Cass to become Vicky, Blackwall to take the Joining), she would totally appreciate an engagement dog. But I'm sure Cullen would appreciate a much calmer and quieter feline friend to keep him company in the lonely nights... and sit on his face every morning, and push his inkwells and wine bottles off the desk, and leave dead birds at the war table...

This just gave me the funniest image! Cullen walks into the War Room, ready for the serious business of the Inquisition. The Inquisitor and her advisors are planning some mission, and suddenly the ruff of Cullen's cloak moves slightly.
Lelianna to Josephine, fake whispering: "Is it MOVING?"
Josephine: "Is what-Oooh. *cough* Um, Commander?"
Cullen, exasperated: "Yes?"
A kitten peeks out of the lion mane on Cullen's cloak and meows. Everyone starts to laugh while Cullen looks embarrassed and exasperated. "Can we get back to business now? We do have a war to deal with, you know."
Meow.
A kitten peeks out of the lion mane on Cullen's cloak and meows.
I just had like a full minute-long aaaaaaaaaaaw at the mental image of kitty hiding in Cullen's furs, scratching his neck and biting at his ear while he tries to focus on the mission at hand and not blush ever harder every time a tiny little meow comes out of his cothes. Too cute for words. ![]()
OMG have you guys seen this? Alistair & Cullen as Peanut characters XD

I'm just pleased whatever DLC they're working on is about something important enough that we're presumed to have a headcanon about it!
Same here...but I hope whatever it is isn't too bad.
Have you guys seen this? I don't recall anyone mentioning it, but that could just be my bad memory.

I guess Ser gets a war table mission if you choose the templar spec. Cullen's not very supportive.
If any of us have seen it, it would be MelissaGT since she spent a lot of time on a Templar PT. Unless he only says that when he stays off lyrium...Have you guys seen this? I don't recall anyone mentioning it, but that could just be my bad memory.

Yeah, he does. And Cullen's response there absolutely makes no sense, because Ser is very honest with you about the lyrium before you choose to take the spec, so there's no reason he -or you- wouldn't be just as clear with whoever decides to volunteer among your troops. It just reads like shoehorned Cullen being combative about Templars for the sake of it, because at no point of this mission is it implied that you'll trick these people and only tell them rosy white lies about what they're signing up for.
And it goes directly against his other thoughts that the Order is still necessary and should continue to exist, too. LIke... Templars should still exist, but no one should become a Templar anymore. Right.

Aha. I see. Here's the whole thing from the wiki: Endure. I guess there's very little text to it, unless there's more ingame. I suppose... it could be seen as coercive if you're expecting some of your men to sign up for templarhood instead of letting them happen upon the notion themselves. But it is a little flip-floppy of him. He can't seem to decide what he really thinks about the templars.

I think it's perhaps not even so much blood as it is an elven magic thing. The Taint, at the root of it all, I believe, is an elven construct, whether by accidental or willful creation. Cause Mythal being able to shift her spirit into an amulet or into Morrigan, as well as the magisters of old bodyhopping with their spirits, on top of the Old Gods being able to hop into darkspawn ---it's all connected somehow.

I never actually considered any of that especially to do with the taint & it's possible origins. I'd love to find out how it came to be because ever since the first game it's bugged me. I know the stories of how the blight began but for me there were still a lot of missing pieces (simply because I don't think the Chantry & Cory's version are 100%) and where did it come from? Did it infection the Golden City before Cory got there? or was that punishment inflicted on them... by the Maker? I'm not sure I believe that the Maker is what the Chantry describes "it/him/her", that's not to say there isn't a Maker, I just believe the Chantry has changed a lot of teachings over the hundreds of years to suit their needs & from when Andraste was alive...
Anyways keep sharing, I love reading all your theories! (and I need something to do today! lol)
