The way he vehemently rages about the way the Grey Wardens deal with Taint makes me believe that he has a lot of experience with blighted creatures. And on top of that, we have murals in elven temples that depict ancient elves fighting some sort of proto-darkspawn. So again, why would he give his orb to such a creature? I do believe that he knew what Cory and so gave the orb to him cause he'd have the power to open it. Solas simply didn't realize that he could bodyhop.

You know, that's perhaps the most cohesive idea that I've ever seen about the actual origin of the the Taint, and to some extent, it makes a lot of sense. And I have long theorized that the taint was used as a weapon, and perhaps the red lyrium was a vehicle for transporting the stuff.

And we also hear speak of "Andruil's light" from the Well of Sorrows. Maybe it was a weapon she devised to counteract the effects of the Blight?

"She shook the radiance of the stars, divided them into grains of light, then stored them in a shaft of gold. Andruil, blood and force, save us from the time this weapon is thrown. Your people pray to You. Spare us the moment we become Your sacrifice."

So to me it seem possible that the darkspawn could of existed not as mindless beasts at some point and whatever magic/weapon used to fight them off could of changed them and possibly the way in which the taint is spread? aka lyrium

Also I wonder if this is true (darkspawn existing before Cory stormed the heavens etc) then how where they organised or formed before? I mean in some regards that makes sense because that would explain how many there was but then why are there no dwarven stories of darkspawn prior? surely they of all people would of ran into them before (again unless they were never underground til after...)

Ugh, I'm stopping... if one thing really bugs me in the game it's not knowing the exact origin of the taint/darkspawn & its all things related

Also thank you Char :)

Could be, although you get the same ending whether the OGB exists or not, so wherever the old god soul went, something else must've gone into Solas as well.

Could be that even though she passed on Mythal's essence (and possibly Urthemiel's as well) through the Eluvian, there was still enough magical mojo left in Flemeth's body to sufficiently power up Solas for whatever he intends to do next?

Could be that was the reason why Mythal ended up choosing a human host in the first place, rather than an elven one, because the host's body needs to be sufficiently powerful enough to house the essence safely? Flemeth might have been the first person Mythal found that fit the right criteria she required, since she mentions that she spent some time as a disembodied wisp before finding her?

The blight could have something to do with the forgotten ones, I seem to remember reading somewhere, though I can’t remember for the life of me where exactly, that one of the forgotten ones was known as a god of pestilence or something along those lines. The blight could've been a weapon that was made by one of the forgotten ones to be used against the Creators.

Makes me wonder if it is the blight that actually caused the elves to start aging again instead of coming into contact with humans. Weren't the ancient elves supposedly immune to most diseases as well?

Edit: Found the codex entry, the mention of pestilience is from the codex for Fen'Harel. "Only in dreams do we hear whispered the names of Geldauran and Daern'thal and Anaris, for they are the Forgotten Ones, the gods of terror and malice, spite and pestilence."

Speaking of the Mother's Day, does anyone know if Cullen's mom (or his parents) are still alive? I saw someone posted in a thread about Mother's Day in the Scuttlebutt section saying that she died during the blight. But I don't quite seem to remember that..

That was me :(

Spoiler

Yes, it's from WoT2, page 226.

This is what I'm thinking as well. Particularly if the forgotten ones are related to/are the old gods... If they are the source of the Blight, it could follow that anyone who catches the 'disease' feels a connection and is compelled to find it. Like those crazyass zombie ants.

....aaaaand now that I've referenced zombie ants, I think my time on DA this morning shall come to an end. :D

I know a couple of people have reported seeing a Cullen or Alistair look-a-like on a bus or train. This morning, I saw someone with Dorian's moustache :)

Huh, so from WoT2, it seems that Cullen was only 19 when the Fifth Blight began, 26 when the Chantry exploded and around 30 in DAI?

So one year younger than Alistair, one year older than Bethany/Carver? Wouldn't have really pegged him as that young in DAO?

Yup, and yup. This is also what Brianne said ("roughly 30"), so at least that's consistent even if it still seems young.

Wow!!!!  Thank you very much for this!!! Wasn't expecting to be having the actual pages to read!!! I enjoyed the reading very much. That actually explains a lot of things from Cullen's psychological changes to his 'sea sickness' to the name of his siblings!! Thank you again!!!

Sooo... Solas doesn't view the Dalish or City elves as "his people" but Flemeth/Mythal will say to a Dalish "You do the People proud and have come far." Some of my conversation with her and Morrigan was different from what I'd seen before in videos; I'm trying to fit it in with some of the things we've been speculating on.

And to stay somewhat on topic, I hadn't realized that if you talked to Cullen after going after Kieran, you had an extra response about meeting a goddess in the Prayer scene...  Have a friendship Cullen.

Part of the difference, I believe, is that Mythal has chosen to live and be a part of Thedas and move on from the past. This contrasts Solas, who firmly desires the glories of the past. So in that regard, I do think Mythal has affection or at least goodwill towards the Dalish and does not dismiss them like Solas does.

My wild guess was actually 18, being under 20 really seemed consistent with his style of dealing with attraction.  :P

OK, now I'm really jealous. I changed my two black-haired IQs to dark red and grey because that is what I expected from black hair.

Blue-black was a pain to get. It took numerous attempts and tweaks with the save editor. Ultimately, it involves changing the base hair color and then messing around with the two spec values.

The good thing is that now I think I should be able to get other funky colors for my other characters.

Ah, well, that just means it's too much trouble to get a hair color for me. Guess I'll stick to dark red, pale grey, and white. Maybe blonde if I can find one that doesn't have that bleach-damaged half dead look on my computer.

To me, it would be failing in his duty. Duty has always been a central motivator for him, keeping him under Meredith's thumb, forcing him to finally question her in support of his duty to the Order's tenets, then ultimately trading duty to the Inquisition for that to the Order. His biggest crisis point during Perseverence is failing his duty to the Inquisition, not so much the personal cost to himself. His argument with Cassandra and later with the bookcase are both about worrying that his leadership will falter, and that he should be either removed from duty to protect the Inquisition from his failure (his worst fear?) or he should start taking lyrium again to bolster his ability to follow through on his duty, respectively.

I agree, Duty is a strong motivator for him.  He feels like he has failed to perform his duty at times.  The failure of it, to me seems to be his greatest fear.

Hi everyone !

I'm Lia.

I browse this thread for two months (I'm so shy ) and I found the mod that made me want to mod my game : Cullen 3k Facial Textures by fontofnothing. I'm grateful that she put her mod available. My game is now modded and I love it ! I also saw mods for eyebrows on this thread, did anyone use them? Because I really don't like those of my IQ.

Thank you :)
And sorry for my english (not my main language).

A long, slightly off-topic discourse on my view on Solas, Flemeth and their different approaches in general.

Spoiler

On-topic, I only found out about this scene on my second playthrough, which was incidentally with Lavellan. It made that scene feel a lot more personal, as both were talking about their respective faiths.
