Would Isabela do Cullen is the question of the decade.
Solas: (chuckles) Was that a serious question?
no really. would isabela do cullen?
hell yes.
i think the better question is under what circumstances would cullen succumb to the pirate queen?

Oh, Isabela would definitely do Cullen.
But for Cullen to do Isabela would probably take another Dark Ritual, without the magic (because just the mention of old magic/blood magic would be a huge dealbreaker). And I frankly think he'd feel pretty bad about it afterwards in that situation.

I dunno, in the right circumstances, he might (and not a Dark Ritual either) without major guilt afterwards. I just don't see him as interpreting the Chantry's teachings that way myself, and Isabela isn't either a mage or a Templar, the two groups forbidden to him before he left the Templars. I've always taken his shyness with the IQ as a result of him taking the relationship very seriously and being afraid of messing up any chance of it being long term/permanent. That doesn't mean I think he was down at the brothel two or three nights a week while he was in Kirkwall, but there is a lot of middle ground between that and completely celibate unless committed (though if someone prefers to headcannon him either way, I say go for it
.) I only think he'd feel really guilty if he was taking advantage of women who cared for him but he didn't really care back or if he was taking advantage of someone inappropriate even if he did (Surana/Amell.) However, I could see him being depressed after spending a night with Isabela because he so obviously wants something serious and long-term...

Yeah, I think it would completely depend on the cirumstances, so I'd never say never. I don't view Cullen as someone who is celibate, given that it's not part of his vows and especially given his "nothing wrong with a bit of fun" comment about IQ x Iron Bull. But he also seems to have little personal experience in that arena, so I typically imagine him needing a reason for that kind of connection as opposed to just a one-night stand, "bit of fun" kind of situation. But, there are lots of clever people who I'm sure could construct a plausible scenario for him to be into it with Isabela, because she's awesome.I dunno, in the right circumstances, he might (and not a Dark Ritual either) without major guilt afterwards. But then, once upon a time I posited a situation where I could plausibly see him with a courtesan, so for me context is everything.

Oh, I don't think that Cullen is celibate. I think he could consider something less serious with somebody under the right circumstances. But I don't think Isabela is his type at all. I'm not saying it's unlikely that he'd have sex with somebody outside a relationship, I'm saying I think it's unlikely that he'll have sex with Isabela.

I was actually thinking partly of your story myself ![]()
I would assume he knew quite a bit about Isabela, and I could imagine a couple of situations where it could happen without huge stretches of the imagination. One could be a comfort sort of situation (just because she's dealt with her past doesn't mean she might not have really bad moments about her abusive involuntary marriage) or something post-combat when they were forced to work together and post-combat, um, interest takes over. It's one of the things I love about Isabela; she copes with life in her own ways and is as tough as nails, but there are moments when you see her vulnerability too, and that's when I think Cullen could be attracted enough, when he got a glimpse of what was under that mask. However, I could never write Isabela, and I'm not good with smut. ![]()

LOL It's hard to imagine not picking every single option and reloading! She just says, "Then I've succeeded." and they snog.
Ah ok, that's much less worse than I was expecting. I generally try all the options but there are certain ones I just can;t bring myself to pick... like all the options for breaking up with Cullen >< I watch those on youtube though since I'm so curious.

I'm a bit soft and don't like the idea of upsetting them
LOL. Not me. My last inquisitor upsets a lot of people. Most recently she told Cullen to get back on the smack... out of duty, permanently, no pussyfooting around the issue with, "We'll just put off the problem until later." Then she sacrificed the Chargers, and told Cole to go back the Fade.

And that's the one I'll probably have the most trouble doing, especially since I like to play dwarves so much, and they admire the wardens generally. I've sided with both mages and Templars, allied and conscripted (well, I haven't allied with the Templars yet, but that'll happen.) I've got a dwarf who'll probably tell Cullen to start taking lyrium again (she sided with the Templars, so it's consistent.) She is also cheerfully lying about believing she's the Herald of Andraste to milk the situation for everything she can get, and one of my Dalish chose to claim she believed in the Maker and thought she was the Herald because she believed she'd be safer around the humans that way. I'm trying out all of the WE/WH endings. I've told Viv to off the viscount who tried to draw on me. My Dalish mage is going to drink from the well just because I think she wouldn't be able to resist as her clan's First (with all the potential for future angst with Cullen.) Both spirit and human with Cole. I've mostly left Stroud in the Fade, for various reasons, but I have a world state with a Warden Alistair and an unpleasant aggressive Hawke (so I don't feel too bad about leaving her in the Fade.)
I do tend to recruit everyone and try (within limits) to keep most of them happy for purely pragmatic reasons - more is better.

It is rough, but the fact I'm not the one doing it makes it bearable.

Yea I did that in one PT as well and I really didn't like it. But for me it has less to do with wanting to please and more to do with i feel like it's the wrong choice there. Just doesn't sit right with me. Also I thought more of your companions approve if you send them packing. At the very least I know the ones I like the most do ><

A good writer can convince me of anything. I've been burnt out on reading Cullen with female inquisitors for awhile now so I've been reading Cullen in every other permutation possible and there's been some great stuff. If someone wrote him with Isabela, I'd read it.

I don't think I've ever seen much Cullen x Isabela, but I've also never gone looking for it. Mostly I just include her making snarky comments about how hot he is in my stories. LOL Because, um, duh!
It was the "He can have jurisdiction over me any time" comment. Between that and the banter/idle comments for Isabela just made me think someone needed to do something about this. Even if it was only having her flirt directly with him and the amusement of having him color up.

My thoughts about Cullen's lack of relationship experience pretty much goes a) he's a romantic and generally not going to jump into bed with someone
he's been avoiding any emotional entanglements for the past ten years because of what happened at Ferelden Circle.
As for Cullen and Isabela, I think I have a funny, and somewhat plausible way to get a kiss out of Cullen at least. That much I can do... If my brain will let me focus for a few minutes today.

After hearing what Cole says at the Winter Palace I can't see Cullen as sleeping around, casual or temp attraction, anymore. I can't remember a couple of words but:
"silk on satin on skin, always wanting. Chaste but chased. Cullen is afraid, he shouldn't be here"

Interesting! I've never had Cole with me at the Winter Palace. Was this on a romanced PT that was far enough to dance with Cullen at the end of WE/WH?
Fortunately, they left Cullen's character vague enough on that point that we can all headcannon our own interpretations on his past, thank goodness ![]()

Both romance and not. I got those same lines on my dwarf and my romanced human.

This may be a combination of different comments, but what is generally attributed to be about Cullen is:
"Cullen is afraid. They're hunting him, following fear. He shouldn't be here."

See, that's the one I'd heard from Cole in banter collections on YouTube. I've never heard the other, so I wondered if there was some unusual set of choices that led to it.

I love Cole's reaction to the Winter Palace. I didn't love how he's up in the library, making me lose court approval every time I want to chat with him.
Also, yes, this ^ dialog makes me think Cullen is still getting over Ferelden mind-f*ckery. poor guy

I knew I was missing half the lines! everything Cole says is up for interpretation. Can't find my video of it so can't go listen to it all again to see when and what order it's all said in. I just thought it made sense with him being hit on the entire party, but you're right that it's interpretation only. Sorry about that. Doesn't mean I'm wrong or right.

I don't think there is a right or wrong, honestly. I think she intentionally wrote him to be open to interpretation (after all, he also makes jokes about catching IB with an IQ, which leaves open the possibility that he's comfortable with sex for it's own sake for anyone who wants to interpret him that way.) And back to what started this... Do I see him as likely to be attracted to Isabela under normal circumstances? Not at all, mostly because she is a pirate and I don't think he'd be comfortable with someone who is as casual about violence for money as she appears to be. I just think in the right circumstances, something could happen without any major regrets or guilt, mostly because he's avoiding emotional entanglements and she's well known for being severely averse to them (and is nothing like any of the people likely to be a trigger for him.)
I'd mostly like to see a story like that because I think it would be a challenge to write well. Possibly even have something start, he has a negative reaction, and she recognizes he's reacting to some kind of trauma and stays with him until he's completely over it. Isabela has a big heart, and I think in that kind of circumstance, she not only wouldn't pry, but would never say anything else about it. Possibly have him later realize that she let slip a little about herself...
