Umm, is it my imagination, or are they creating competing positivity/fandom weeks?
There has been some substantial drama around the Cullen week, largely rooted in the perception that he does not "deserve" a week and that this was somehow in "retaliation" to Anders' week. I suppose the first opinion is subjective, but the second one is absolutely untrue. I think it's finally started to quiet, and as one of the creators, I'd prefer it'd stay that way.
But reading the announcement for the Sera Positivity Week, I do believe it was intended to "compete" with Cullen's week. Merrill's doesn't say anything specific, but I get the impression that might be the case, too.
Solas' was inspired by Cullen's, I think (the formatting is very similar to what I used), but not intended to overshadow, and Vivienne's Month was planned by a friend; there was definitely no foul play there. Samson's Weekend pre-dated the Cullen one, and actually has a really great fundraiser attached to it.
I could do without the shade, but I really am all for fans organizing events to spur on creativity and (hopefully) positivity amongst the fandoms. And if these events help draw away any backlash we'd receive during the week, I'm totally okay with that.
(Also, hello! I've been a Cullen fan for a few years, but largely spent most of my time at Tumblr. I think this might be my first post in this thread.)
