There has been some substantial drama around the Cullen week, largely rooted in the perception that he does not "deserve" a week and that this was somehow in "retaliation" to Anders' week. I suppose the first opinion is subjective, but the second one is absolutely untrue. I think it's finally started to quiet, and as one of the creators, I'd prefer it'd stay that way.
But reading the announcement for the Sera Positivity Week, I do believe it was intended to "compete" with Cullen's week. Merrill's doesn't say anything specific, but I get the impression that might be the case, too.
Solas' was inspired by Cullen's, I think (the formatting is very similar to what I used), but not intended to overshadow, and Vivienne's Month was planned by a friend; there was definitely no foul play there. Samson's Weekend pre-dated the Cullen one, and actually has a really great fundraiser attached to it.
I could do without the shade, but I really am all for fans organizing events to spur on creativity and (hopefully) positivity amongst the fandoms. And if these events help draw away any backlash we'd receive during the week, I'm totally okay with that.
(Also, hello! I've been a Cullen fan for a few years, but largely spent most of my time at Tumblr. I think this might be my first post in this thread.)
Thanks for organizing that week!
From what I get, the date for Sera one is already changed so not to overlap. On the original post it's already stated if another character's week is overlapping the date would be changed, the post dated before the Positivityweek blog IIRC.
TBH it's still rather daunting to have ALL on July & August. Cole's one is on august. Not enough time seriously... The worse thing is that if there's overlapping ones, many people would sacrifice one to do the other due to time reason and that'll rather kill the whole thing
I mean come on, I love Cullen but I'd also love to participate in another character's appreciation week. Not because I love Cullen that I must hate other characters... Guess that this is true for MANY people...
I agree. It's puzzling on Meredith's part, except for the fact that she wanted someone she viewed as having the same principles regarding mages and thought it would make sense to have someone with more experience in the trenches than the average templar. Personally, I like what it adds to his backstory, that he'd have this extra layer of issues in being young and Fereldan and promoted over others who may have been more deserving. It ratchets up the angst but makes his position in Kirkwall even more interesting as a foil to Meredith.
Aaaand, one of the reasons Sheryl has stated for making it Cullen in the pink bubble of woe in DA:O was that people like to see folks from their past. So I think Cullen continued to have that going for him.
That's a good argument, that he had probably seen much more than many Kirkwall templar. Still what makes me cringe is that in Kirkwall blood magic is literally everywhere... That gives handicap to Cullen which is a good way for the character development especially if it's indicated that it all went badly after Meredith's gone.
TBH I'd love to read any short stories or whatever it is by the dev on Meredith's choice. Why? What's her reasoning?
Ha, right? Especially since the whole idea was spurred on by someone trash-talking in one of the main Cullen tags. Oh, well.
Anyway, in spite of the backlash, I am excited to see that we've had a lot of support! (I'm especially excited about seeing more DA2 Cullen/Cullen x Hawke, my true OTP. ♥)
And I'm looking forward the Skyrim/Dragonborn crossover art from Cerulione! (IIRC--Sorry if I got the wrong name). Kind of surprisingly, I haven't seen much Cullen/Skyrim crossover ideas.
Thanks, now I'm afraid that my skill would disappoint all of you
About Skyrim!Cullen... Well TBH skyrim's armour is much more amazing complicated to draw. It's much more detailed with more ornaments (carvings). DAs armour are more or less simpler with much less ornaments... That's probably one obstacle.
Even though Dovahkiin!Cullen is an interesting idea... But I'm not sure it'll work well. The main quest of Skyrim is basically you breaking half of the rules (after meeting Delphine & rebuilding the Blades). Cullen is very good at following rules. I can hardly imagine him doing half of the quest in main quest to infiltrate the Thalmor thing & go to thief guild etc. Although probably he might do it due to his sense of duty. Cullen's also like to work in an organized structure from what I see. Skyrim's dragonborn is rather... solitary despite possibly being part of many factions, you do more or less things alone due to the backstabbing things in ALL factions.
I wasn't too impressed with item pack, but the dragon age fan in me reasoned that I have to have all dlc even if i'm not impressed with it,but yeah I haven't even started JOH yet as I decided to start new playthrough I'm still hoping that we get more interactions in the next story dlc,but I'm still hoping for a more Skyhold upgrades in the dlcs to fix the roofs and stuff
I vote against roof!
*snicker* This reminds of something I noticed yesterday. I needed a pick me up and so was listening to Pharell's Happy. The chorus goes:
Because I'm happy
Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof
Because I'm happy
Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth
Because I'm happy
Clap along if you know what happiness is to you
Because I'm happy
Clap along if you feel like that's what you wanna do
Now all I can think of is Cullen's room as a metaphor for happiness.

(:cue bow chicka bow bow music in the distance:)

You are a valid fan(Cullenite). No matter how much or how little, if you appreciate his character, then that's all that matters. I've seen this a lot lately & it makes me sad that people are made to feel that their enjoyment of a character isn't enough warranted because, "well, we love him more." I left school 6 years ago, I'd hoped to leave that kind of behaviour there with it . Sorry for going off on a tangent, but this is just too close to bullying for me tastes
Well said!
