I haven't done Cullen's romance yet, but he might turn out to be my favorite straight romance. He's such a sweet man.

I knew that, I was testing you  At first I thought you were giving me a title for a Cullen x Bull fic, and then I thought you were refering to me as the lion who needed taming beacuse I snapped up that prompt :P The only Indiana Jones film I've seen is the newest one, it was bad.

Go rent the first three. They are wonderful pulp fun. Actually you can skip Temple of Doom. Raiders and Last Crusade are just the best. I decided to study history because of Raiders...and Harrison Ford.

And forgive me, I keep forgetting I'm probably older than a lot of the people here which means my references may end up being dated. :sigh:

doo eeet!

Also, YES, that's what I like about him. He's a sweet guy. I tend to go for the BW 'sweet' guys - Cullen, Kaidan, ... to a less degree, Garrus. I mean, I do adore some of the drama-full romances for the story of them (like, ALL DA2), but in the end, I like that he's just like, 'Hai, I'll be here training the armies. No, it's cool. You go kill dragons and ****. I got this."

**

As for my headcanon of that first flirt prompt. Yes, it's absurd, but I read a ton into it. :D

THAT HAIR!!! GIMME GIMME GIMME GIMME!!!!

What I wouldn't give for a casual night shirt of his... XD

I love seeing medieval fantasy hotties in their casual shirts because those loose, lace up necklines do wonders.... :P If I remember correctly, wasn't someone here working on a mod, or atleast a model rendering with a casual Cullen outfit?

I think some of my favorite banter is between Cole and Dorian. If you haven't stuck those two in your party together, DO IT. Cole is a precious bb and he will simultaneously break your heart and mend it.

It seems to be a lot of people who went for Cullen also romanced Kaidan. I don't really know Kaidan's character to well (I'm a total Garrus girl) are they quite similar? Also, I'm with you regarding that first flirt. He totally had to remind himself to focus on the reports and not the pretty lady :P

I *cough* -please no-one crucify me- really disliked Kaidan when I played the ME trilogy. Found him too self-righteous and a bit whiny. I'm all about the Garrus, personally. Garrus is the best <3
I can see the similarities between the two, but I can't tell if I find Cullen more relatable and likeable, or if Kaidan was just badly overshadowed by Garrus for me...

Hmmmm.

Once you go Garrus, you never go back :P I don't dislike Kaidan, or any character really, but that Garrus romance   There should be a warning that comes with those games about turning you into a xenophile  Anyway, I know Kaidan suffers in silence from migraines, perhaps he and Cullen share that strength of mind? I'm sure there's a better word for it. They have that "just get on with it" kinda of attitude.

I second the recommendation, though any real archaeologist winces at the idea he gives people of archaeology.

And you might be surprised at the age of some of the people on here. I have two daughters older than a lot of the regular posters, and I suspect I'm not the oldest :P

Is Cullen like Kaidan?

I don't think so. not really. here is my totally on the fly highly researched and thoughtful assessment:

kaidan/cullen both:

- totally cool with being in a relationship with a powerful woman

- get a bit tongue tied around said woman at first

- indication is that they're dominant in the bedroom

- not a pushover out of the bedroom either

- deadpan snarker

- something of a horrible experience in younger years, which they're still getting over

- both are something of an a$$hat in the second game of the trilogy

- both seem to live in their armor/bdu's and have no sense of style outside of the uniform

- DAT LIP SCAR

not alike:

- kaidan is much more chill about his bad youth experience as a biotic than cullen is about ferelden tower

- kaidan is a biotic (so, mage, basically)

- kaidan is more, i wanna say, dorky at first, like openly dorky. cullen seems like he's trying to play things cool

- kaidan is more a strike-team operator, cullen is the behind the lines general/trainer

- kaidan's snark is more obvious and sarcastic, cullen's is so dry it sometimes doesn't seem like he's even making a joke

- kaidan is motivated primarily by massive idealism and romanticism, cullen strikes me as more practical, utilitarian in his approach

- ^ with that, kaidan is more idealistic, 'save all the people', cullen is a bit 'to make an omelette...'  (kaidan would be horrified by the suggestion to kill the empress, imo)

- kaidan strikes me as much more toe-the-line with superiors, even until the end of the games, cullen shows signs of questioning earlier, imo

- kaidan is a massive tech-geek, cullen is a bit more tactically-minded. << with that, kaidan strikes me as more concrete in his thinking, here-and-now, and cullen is a bit more big picture

- kaidan has a tendency to let stuff slip without meaning to in his speaking, cullen seems to monitor every word that comes out of his mouth

there. my totally researched assessment. cullen is much more like garrus, imo.

I can live with Cullen = Garrus <3 also backed up by the 'calibrating' comment in DA:I
My run of good taste continues
I don't think I ever forgave Kaidan for being so rude and untrusting of my FemShep in 2&3. Seriously. femShep has a galaxy to save, and does not have time for that wounded ego.

I know. It one of those 'what people think I do' memes. Of course, for a second grader, it's great recruiting material. I went to pure history though when my intetests drifted from ancient Egypt to World War 2.

I was thinking on bsn in general since I had a brush with it a few days ago elsewhere on the board. This has been probably the most mature fan discussion I've been involved in on the boards. It's nice. Reminds me of a btvs listserv I was on not long after it came out.

Just to keep this on topic: the Skyhold poster had me thinking something rather funny. Change the jacket to a trenchcoat, put a cigarette in his mouth and loose the gun, and he's make a very good John Constantine. Which is all kinds of ironic if you know the character's history.

I should be the one apologising for ruining your humour with my ignorance :P  It's hilarious what conclusions the brain leaps to when it has no idea whats going on. They alway seem to air Indiana Jones at christmas in the uk, I'll take note to watch it ^_^

None taken at all. I actually got a good laugh at where you jumped to. I think I scared my rugrats :) and I admit, I'm curious as to how that may work.

I'm with you guys. Cullen is much more like Garrus than Kaiden.

The only thing I'd argue with sagefic is that Cullen is a romantic. He clings to the ideals of the order even in the face of Meredith's disapproval, and then there's the almost lecture at Haven. The romantic is just buried under lots and lots of scar tissue.

I always thought his comment about the Empress was odd, and I got the feeling his agreement was grudging.

I agree, that lake date alone provided all my romantic needs, I even wrote a ficlet about it ^_^ Taking a girl back to your safe place & giving her something you've treasured for over a decade, something you believe has brought you luck enough to keep you safe. I look at it as him valuing her safety/survival over his because he's no doubt in love with her now and just find it so sweet. Not to mention the morning after scene, all the little hand gestures & the way he looks at her. I do love a handsy man :D

Off topic, we were wondering if cullen was left/right-handed... well i still don't know, but i have just seen that Cassandra was left-handed (Varric too if i'm not wrong) and Josie right-handed :P
Just wanted to say that, i know it's not important

You're on the right track - he's actually not really on board with letting the Empress die. If you go back and talk to him about it after the cutscene with Josie and Leliana, he'll make that quite clear.
