I'm having a blast with my first time playing DAO, and I can't help noticing that Alistair and Cullen have a similar kind of appeal.
You know, handsome but sexually naive templar. What does set them apart is that Cullen is a more mature guy.

You know before playing DAI, I feared that Cullen might be too much like Alistair, but in fact they are quite different. Of course they kept the best part (to me), the naive/romantic/virgin templars style, but as you say their temper is different, Alistair is a bit immature, makes a lot of jokes to avoid the serious questions... Doesn't like responsabilities... He was cute and funny. But I wouldn't say sexy or especially manly. On the contrary Cullen is definitly mature, manly, sexy, a lot more serious too. Maybe we gamers got older as well and would now prefer more mature guys I loved the romance with Alistair, but I know I would fall for Cullen *_*

Probably because he's basically the "sunshine" type. In DA:I/Warden he's really really mature (IMO) and I seriously like him even a bit more than Cullen. Somehow, IRL I think that Cullen might be a bit stressful to live with XD. Alistair's much more easy going

Hmmm TBH they did mention doing some Exalted March DLC back in DA2 with apparently many people killed etc2 so IMO doing an ultra tragic DLC isn't above them... >.<

Agree. I honestly don't even find it remotely plausible that they would sweep away the Cullen romance happy ending into tragedy. His story arc over the past three games has already had more than its share of tragedy, which is why his DAI arc is mostly rainbows and sunshine (and utter lack of controversy cough cough). They even gave him a deus ex machina escape from the lyrium addiction as only the "first" templar of many to kick the habit. It just doesn't make sense plot-wise to take his character arc and give it a sudden right turn at the eleventh hour. Esp not if they're wrapping up the DA:I universe.

Back on the Cullen track, I had such a good idea for a fanfic prompt involving Cullen and I have no idea if it already exists and/or where to pitch it. I noticed the Rider's Posture perk from Cullen's area of expertise, and am in desperate need of Cullen giving horseback riding lessons to an inexperienced rider, i.e. circle mage Trevelyan, preferably pre-initiated romance    I wants it.

For your amusement, I was doing a quick google search for the Cullen Abercromby and Fitch horse pic, and what comes up as the third pic??

I'm honestly not TOO worried about them doing that. Happy Cullen ending was too popular. Killing off the IQ or something similarly tragic, yeah. I just don't plan to spend money on it if they do. That sort of thing really only works well when it's unusual, not the everyday ending.

Also, at least Mary Kirby has moved to the new IP with Gaider, which (combined with the "last DLC" thing on that survey) makes me wonder if writing for DA:I might be mostly done. :\

Unfortunately, I didn't see Alistair in DAI because I made him king so I got Stroud instead. 

 

So I can only remember the romance from DA:O, I loved Alistair, it's true that he would be less stressful than Cullen, and more funny, but I also remember him from DAO and was comparing the two romances the way we had them, and Alistair was really complaining A LOT. Let's say I already had a boyfriend a bit like this in the past, cute but immature and never wanting to take responsabilities or decisions, and I know that I would prefer someone like Cullen who can really take  responsabilities like a man and not complaining or weeping too much.

 

Cullen had a really tragic life, so I'm glad they did something happy for him in DAI, he deserved it. 

 

It's true that it was a bit strange that he was the only templar being able to stop taking lyrium (he suffers but it doesn't seem SO hard, at least not impossible), Cullen has a strong will but I'm sure other templars could try to do so, too. Maybe they should have shown that another way, like Cullen discovering an old book (a bit like Cassandra and her Seekers' secrets with how to undo the Tranquil ritual) saying how to stop taking lyrium and survive. That would make more sense than just try to stop and that's all.

And on-topic, I guess I'll put my ten cent bet on "potentially unhappy, but because of something that happens to the Inquisitor, not Cullen" for the end of his romance. They are in a strange corner, because it seems like the lack of consequences / general sunshine and ponies in Inquisition were a major object of criticism, but it seems odd to torpedo a happy ending in DLC that people are paying extra for. (Maybe feeling that way is just a consequence of my having gotten into BioWare when ME3 was the current game, and 2 of the 4 story DLC were explicitly there to make people happier about the grimness of the main game.)

Lyrium consequences seem like the obvious place to take any remaining story for him (aside from some cabin by a lake where he and the Inquisitor retire to raise children and/or Mabari) but unless the result is INEVITABLE FAILURE, it seems like treating [quit during Inquisition / told to quit after Inquisition / didn't quit at all] differently would be zots-expensive.

 

I suppose the fact that there's "follower content" in upcoming DLC doesn't necessarily mean there's further character development or additional personal quests, though; could just be another cinematic conversation with each of them or something. Even if there's an additional romance scene for each LI or something, it wouldn't necessarily need to advance the romance plots.

Yeah, I really don't see them spending word budget on new follower/advisor stories when they have so much core storytelling to do. If this is the only story-based DLC every word will count.

The best place to share fic ideas if you can't write yourself, I think, is still the anon meme. I think we're not allowed to link it here in the forums because of its adult nature, but just google dragon age anon meme and it should be the top result. (it's not just porn prompts, for the record, there's fluff and angst and no smut prompts all the time in there)

I got a bunch of really good prompts to work on but surprisingly very little Culleny ones, and I was hoping to work on my Cullen voice more, so if anyone wants to throw Noodly prompts at me, go ahead. (or Sebastian; that's another voice I really need to work on)

A writing prompt is an idea, or a suggestion, or a request. You're "prompting" the writer to write about something.

 

Generally it's like, you have an idea for a story you'd like to read but can't/don't want to write it yourself, and then you have a writer who wants to write something but has no ideas on what to write about at the moment... you tell a writer about your idea, and maybe they'll be inspired by it and get working.

I have an idea: the lady Inquisitor was cursed by a Venatori mage and transformed into a cat and no one knows. She tries to make Cullen understand about the situation but of course, at the beginning he thinks it's just a regular cat. But there can be really cute scenes   

 

Oooor the other way around, Cullen wakes up one day transformed into a cat and tries to make the Inquisitor understand, but she adopts the cat thinking it's a normal one, and makes confessions, not knowing she's in fact talking to Cullen. And she gets undressed in front of the cat and doesn't understand why the animal is hiding his eyes under his paws XD

I believe there's already a story in progess in which Cullen is a cat... The Lion of Skyhold maybe?

Haha, I see   I don't like Amell anyway. She broke Cullen's heart. My Grey Warden is a Cousland anyway so Amell never existed in my Dragon age world; Cullen's heart can be 100% to the Inquisitor like this  (it's more romantic this way I think)
