Yeah, I've noticed a lot make him look younger. Each to their own - just not for me! That's what prompted me to try and build my own, because I really like his face to begin with since it's nice and weathered and has flaws. I don't want to change him much at all - just add some scruff. Font's high-rez texture is perfect to build off of since it looks great up-close. 

 

Do you guys think he could use more scruff or is that just enough? I will try to add in some lighter hairs, as well as salt n' pepper. I'm not sure how well I'll be able to mod the hair on his head now that I found out Blender doesn't work with DAI Modding. I can't afford 3ds max. But I'm going to see if I can mod the texture of his hair to be more realistic - I don't think I'll need max for that.

I'm normally a beard fan, but I've had mixed reactions to attempts to add a full beard to Cullen. I mean, they're very well-done, I just somehow don't like him as well with a beard. A fuller goatee, though...?

I like it, and would definitely be interested in seeing what you can do with respect to curly more realistic hair and/or greying! (edit: sorry, I think I misread your post re:hair mesh on the first pass) But one thing I like about Cullen's vanilla stubble is that it seems to be thicker in the same shape around his mouth and nose as his old goatee (which is also how my husband's grows, which makes it seem more realistic to me I guess?), and it looks pretty uniform here. I've never dated someone with more beard than in-game Cullen, and it's never occurred to me to look closely at strangers' stubble, so I have no idea if it generally does even out that quickly or not; just a thought.

 

(also seeing as you seem to have successfully modified his facial hair without making him look weirdly smooth like those mods generally do... if you ever happen to make one with aforementioned DA2 goatee, that would be rad as hell)

He looks good to me (not hard to accomplish lol ) but that looks plenty, but maybe a little more from the center of his chin to his bottom lip? If thats doable and you want to of course

Thanks for the feedback guys. I will play around with it a bit more and see what I get. I'm not sure if I can get a DA2-style goatee because I built this off adding to his already existent facial hair - unless I can somehow patch in different skin without hair (I can try to see if I can merge his texture with someone who has nice shaved skin). I can definitely do a "poorly maintained" goatee that has grown in a little bit. Honestly, that seems like it would be a bit more realistic anyways since I'm sure he's not maintaining a beautiful man-scape from day to day. I can imagine him rocking the "mountain man" look.   My b/f has to use his razor/shaver/man-scaper thingamagig like every day to keep his facial hair lines crisp. If he were to go off to war I can only imagine what his face would look like.

As an addition to the "male facial hair growth patterns" discussion, my b/f's tends to grow in quickly along his jawline and chin, but would never be able to grow a goatee, so I guess they're all different!

Ah ok I thought you were adding details with a software, but it's a mod you did and then made a screenshot of it, right? I mean, in the game I cannot zoom like this on his face, that's why, I was wondering.

Yeah, it's a mod made by modifying his facial texture and porting it into the game.

It does a very good job of making Cullen look like his DA2 self, plus delicious scar.

 

(But then it does have the problem of also making him look way too young for my personal taste, which is why I edited it for my own use. basically what I do when merging textures is to undo the  edits to the area around his eyes, because I think they actually did a good job of showing age with them in the vanilla model - he has crow's feet and everything! Yep, the one I mentioned only uses shading/contouring to give the illusion of shape. There are a few retextures out there that use this same trick to make Cassandra's face sharper, too. I don't think I've seen any mods that actually change the models, other than the hair mesh edits.

This is all my own texture modifications so I started with my own version of Cullen's vanilla texture. I also sharpened his scar a little bit. Thoughts on "freshly shaved" or "5 o'clock shadow" goatee? I'm also going to work on the "mountain man" version of DA2 Cullen - like it's just started to grow in. My biggest hurdle here is that I don't have a wacom tablet so this is all done with a mouse.

I'm trying to find a new template, I'm really bad at this. The one I have doesn't even have the little "heart" icon so no one can "like" it directly from my page... (only from the browser)... raah.

Awesome, I'll keep going with this one then. The chin should also look a little sharper...I haven't figured out how to get the nose sharper yet but I'm learning as I go. I don't think I can do anything with his hair at this point (not the hair style, but the actual hair texture) but I have something I'm going to try as a last resort. I'm also going to try adding some more high-def hair for his brows (I can't stand the muddy brows) and try to help that awful hairline. 

 

I really wish I had a wacom tablet! Hair is one thing, but it's dern near impossible to paint skin texture with a mouse! I can get one on Amazon for like $80 (not sure on the difference between the Bamboo and Intuos and which is better). I told my b/f I was going to wait for Santa but I'm not sure I can wait that long!

Holy tap-dancin' tacos in salsa!  I can't speak for anybody else, but you can stop making adjustments right here for me. This is perfect and I'd download this mod in a nanosecond. For the record, I hate beards. So I'm pro the "clean shaven" look, but hot damn the goatee is some good "old school" Cullen (so I likey  ). The only thing that bugs me a bit is that the goatee hair should be a little lighter (darker than the hair on his head, but not as dark as it is in these screen caps), but honestly that's a nitpick...this still works for me.

A/N: Inspired by feylen's amazing modern Cullen fanart, the song "Don't Stand So Close to Me" (just so you know, beware!), and the awesome BSN Cullen thread. The story resulted from imagining seeing that dude in the picture every day at your (academic) workplace. This 'hot for teacher' idea took hold of me and wouldn't stop 'til I'd written it. Special thanks to Feylen for permission, and to meanieweenie and curiousartemis for reviewing it for me (but the blame is all mine!).

That's actually vanilla hair for the goatee, so what's there is what Bioware made. I'm going to add my own hair, and then maybe add some lighter hairs to lighten it up overall. However, I'm not a fan of light facial hair so that will probably come after I make one for me to use first. Cullen has dark lashes so it would make sense that his facial hair is darker. 

 

I'm also going to get rid of that little bit of hair growing out of his scar...that's really tweaking my gourd every time I look at it.

Not sure if cost is an issue, but if so: I use a Monoprice tablet at home for fanart and I like it almost as much as the Wacom I use at work (for making figures for my scientific papers). The physical texture of the tablet is a little smoother on the Wacom and I miss the eraser on the stylus, but for the cost difference the Monoprice is fantastic - it's like $30 for an 8 x 6, $40 for a 10 x 6 or $60 for a 12 x 9.
Looks fantastic by the way! Can't wait to see the final version.
