Hmm... that sounds like a plot bunny if ever I heard one. . .

... little bunny fanfic, hoppin' through the forest, scoopin' up the writers, and boppin' em on the head...   :kissing:

If I have any more plot bunnies the nice men in white coats are going to have to come for me. Already juggling too many plots as is.
I haven't had it this bad since my days writing Buffyverse stuff.

On Alistair Redux:

Yeah, most people who say that don't really cruise past the blond former Templar thing. And as much as I love Alistair, I find Cullen to be a much stronger person in general. It makes me think of the banter between Morrigan and Alistair when you reach Lothering, about why he's deferring to to the Warden. I cannot imagine Cullen saying "I prefer to follow." even pre Broken Circle. Though I did manage to get that banter much later in one game, after hardening Alistair and there is a second response, but I can't remember.

On the Grand Duchess:

I never kill Florianne mostly because I like watching her sweat. And, in fiction at least, I am a nasty person who believes that the best revenge is living well, and grounding your enemies' faces in it. :) So I've never seen his reaction, or lack there of.

oh man. They never did tell us what happened to Nate, did they?! Sob. I guess he's too often dead. :(

Considering that if he lived in DAA and showed up, he was working for the First Warden, it's possible he's at Weisshaupt. In fact, I'd say probable.

Hmm strange because I didn't see that comment of Cullen. I ordered her to work with farmers, haha. Maybe that's why I didn't get that comment?

One question: the messenger banter with Cullen starts only just after I teleport to Skyhold and if I go directly to his office? I wonder how to get them, I got only one or two, I wonder if there's a trick to have them.

They're supposed to be like Josie's but for some reason Cullen's don't fire as much, or at all. (I've gotten the one about a letter from his sister and that's it). I'm not sure if Leliana gets them at all, as I don't go talk to her much. I know, bad me, but my head canon is major survivor's guilt on the IQ's part.

And you mentioned Nathaniel, sigh. I'm wondering if they'll ever tell us where he was during DAI because I refuse to believe he let them sacrifice him for a blood ritual.

The blood sacrifices were happening only in Orlais, under Clarel's rank, right? Leliana says all the Wardens in Ferelden seem to have disappeared, before she sends you to find Blackwall. I assume Nathaniel, Sigrun etc have all left with the Warden-Commander on whatever secret mission they're undertaking. I refuse to believe any fate for Nate and Sigrun other than that they're still very much alive, happy and fulfilled in their Warden roles, kicking darkspawn butt all day every day, and still poking fun at each other, because it never stops being funny. :P

(since mine is the Orlesian Warden, so the "cure for the Calling" subplot is not mentioned in-game, I'm just assuming Caron and the kids are out there still getting in trouble with the Architect, until proven otherwise)

Out of curiosity, how would that be possible? I thought you could only ask Alistair why he was letting you lead during that one convo when you first get to Lothering.

I've managed to get that convo much later in the game by immediately removing Morrigan from the party once I came out of that first cutscene in Lothering, before they had the chance to trigger any banter. I suppose removing Alistair instead would have the same effect, of course. Anyway, many many hours later I ended up with both in the same party again for some reason (I avoid that because of how she treats Alistair), and since that's the first banter in their table, it came up like all the way into the Deep Roads.

He does have a slightly different answer later on, if he's been hardened at that point (so he's not just passively following you around and avoiding making his own decisions), I thought that was a neat detail too.

eta: actually, re-reading your post, I believe you're thinking of the wrong convo. There's that conversation in the cutscene when you can ask Al why he's letting you lead, and then there's another ambient banter between him and Morrigan, when she asks him again why you're the one leading since he's the senior Warden of the two of you. The cutscene conversation can't be postponed, but the banter one can.

Since they don't ask about Sigrun in the Keep (as in whether she lived through the DAA ending or not,) I'm assuming they've more or less written her out, sigh. Nate's possible appearance in DA2 means they haven't entirely written him out yet. It's really unclear what happened to the Ferelden wardens, but since Alistair was somehow mixed up in what was going on in Orlais, I've been assuming they were all summoned by Clarel. I've been assuming the Warden-Commander went into the west alone (except for Dog of course, and possibly Zevran if he was romanced,) but while I think it's implied by the letters, it wasn't precisely spelled out.

I adore Sigrun and Nate too, btw. I would seriously love Nate as a romance option...

Would you be able to sum up what he says if the banter triggers after he's hardened? Curious minds want to know!

tbh I couldn't for the life of me remember what the line was, so I cheated and looked it up on the wiki. :P

Morrigan: In fact, you defer to a new recruit. Is this a policy of the Grey Wardens? Or simply a personal one?

Alistair (unhardened): What do you want to hear? That I prefer to follow? I do.

Alistair (hardened): Maybe you'd prefer to lead? That would be worth a good laugh, for a while.

Heh, it's even snarkier than I remembered it.

I always forget about Alistair! The storyline makes so much sense for Loghain (he's been serving in Orlais for years and knows Clarel closely) that I forget it doesn't make a lot of sense for Alistair, or even Stroud (who serves in the Marches exactly to keep himself out of trouble in Orlais) unless you stretch Cory's influence far beyond the Orlais rank.

Since the Orlesian Warden-Commander doesn't even get a letter at all in DAI to explain their absence in Ferelden, though, I guess I can pretty much headcanon whatever I want. BW doesn't seem to care what happens to this character, so... she's mine now. B) I declare my Caron, Nate and Sigrun to either be hanging out in the Deep Roads with the Architect, or... idk, training the baby griffons back in Weisshaupt for riding when they grow up. Imagine Nate riding a griffon. Just imagine that.

In any case, I wouldn't read too much into the Keep tiles as indication of future developments, because... the Keep is a mess. A lot of those tiles are there just because - while it was in beta, people would keep suggesting tiles for every worthless little decision here and there in Origins, and the DAO tapestry became that mess of irrelevant choices that it is now. And then they didn't want to add more tiles to the Awakening fold that should exist, like who was the Warden-Commander, which companions survived etc, because DAO was too cluttered already. Then the DA2 tapestry felt really short-changed in comparison, so they kept adding more and more tiles into it to pad the tapestry up a bit and make it look bigger, and now you can see a lot of tiles there that make you question why even bother too (lol, which reminds me, I'm still salty that they removed Cullen's friendship tile - not like half those DA2 tiles made any difference in Inquisition either, but Cullen's they had to remove, baaah). I think they only realized that you need to keep some narrower scope on things that actually matter in the DAI tapestry. That one came out the cleanest, with the least amount of irrelevant tiles.

Anyway point being, just because Nate has a tile at the Keep, doesn't really mean BW intends to do anything with him - his tile got there because beta testers were asking for it, and it could turn out to mean nothing. And just because Sigrun is not there, doesn't mean she'll never come up again - at this point we know that if they really really want a character back, they'll handwave anything, specially epilogue slide deaths. Kinda too late to lament it now, but if they hadn't wasted space on asking inane stuff like whether you killed some random halla or fed some prisoner who dies anyway, they might've focused better on real questions like where the in the world are Sigrun and Velanna. -_-

I don't really think any of the Awakening kids will show up again either way, but... never say never.

I tried to fight Florianne but she was too strong for me at that time... so I loaded my save just before and I had enough approbation from the court to "talk" with Florianne, but I didn't execute her, it seemed out of place (at least not in front of everyone). That's why I didn't get the "head on a pike" comment then  :P

But yes it doesn't sound like Cullen at all to do that... It's more Leliana's style  she's creepy! she wanted to cut the tongue of that minstrel spreading rumors? does she really do that if we send HER on that mission?

She reminds me a bit of Liara: in the first game she sounds a bit naive and cute, and then they make her chief of secret agents/assassins and, bam, here comes dark Liara/dark Leliana  :P (however I don't remember Liara as being THAT dark)

I never hardened Alistair because if you do he agrees on a threesome with Isabela, while before he was totally against the idea. For me it was not the Alistair I liked, can't imagine him saying yes to such things, it's like a total change of his personnality. So I didn't hardened him and he stayed cute and naive, haha.

I can't imagine Cullen agreeing on a threesome with anyone, he's not like Alistair. Cullen has more temper, he is able to say "no" when he wants to, while Alistair was more... hiding behind you and following.

About the messenger banter, in fact the only one I got was :

messenger: "she says it is possible"

Cullen: "Ha, and me I'm the king of Ferelden then."

something like this. For the rest they only say "at your order" and leave.

So, have I made this up (or read it in a fic) or is there banter about Josephine hosting a tea party, and Leliana trying to convince Cullen to attend? I'm trying to think of where I heard this but I'm drawing a blank.

Yeah, I kind of thought you might have forgotten Warden Alistair since I think we diverged on keeping Loghain alive (I'd have done it in some PTs but never wanted to give up Alistair in my group.) I was less clear on exactly who Stroud answered to, so I didn't mention him. However, I feel like I saw something that suggested the Fereldan wardens had been summoned to Orlais - I think the letters we find on the Storm Coast, maybe?

Oh, I wasn't going off tiles strictly, just that Sigrun hasn't had any mention since the end of DAA at all, while Nate could show up in DA2 and even help fight Meredith at the end. And definitely you should be able to do what you want with the Orlesian Warden Commander, lol. I agree that the Keep is a mess, though some of it may be intentional to keep future plans vague. Nate on a griffon, mmm.

I *think* there's something, maybe a banter between Cullen and a messenger? I can't remember the source right now, but I know I heard it because I wouldn't have made that one up myself (and I've included it in one of my fics.)

I thought it must be in the game, that's not the kind of thing I'd personally headcanon (as much as I enjoy the idea). Something tells me it's an exchange in a letter, but I'm not sure. I'm also not certain if Leliana ever actually succeeds in convincing Cullen to go. Now that's an image, Cullen at a tea party; drinking tea with his pinky in the air :P

When Leliana says "I thought this obsession was over, has he been drinking? I won't discuss about how she was like".

She is talking about what, Cullen about Amell? o_o it would be really strange, Cullen sending a messenger to ask that kind of personal thing to Leliana? while he already asked in direct at the war table (if you imported your save and had a female mage warden in DAO only, of course, and not romancing Cullen in DAI) I mean, if it's really that, that's very weird. And why would he ask how she was like? he knew how she was like. Unless he asks for intimate details and that's even more CREEPY.

But haha I like when Leliana says "Merde!" in french.

So no one has an opinion about what she says about Cullen (or what I think is Cullen?) just before the "tea party" banter.

At 1:57

I'm trying to think about who else it could be, but...

Oh, I started "What pride had wrought", found Josephine is the campment, but is there Leliana or Cullen somewhere? wanted to talk to them but I just found Josephine.

Both Leliana and Cullen are in the field fighting. Cullen has a quick line he shouts mid fight which changes if your romancing him, though it doesn't really count as a conversation.

As for what Cullen says about a romanced Amell/Surana, personally, I assume it was just put in to please the fans of Cullen/mage warden (there are a fair few of them). I've only the one canon worldstate that I import, and my warden isn't a mage so I'm not sure how much he mentions her, but I think (and hope) you only hear the convo you mentioned if Cullen and the inquisitor aren't in a romance. So maybe it's safe to assume that it was put in for those who wanted to hear it.

Yes, because I really don't want to hear that at all, it's like breaking the romance, having your boyfriend still fantasizing on a girl he met 10 years before... it sounds like a stalker (even without romancing him, it's strange to hear that, the discussion at the war table was enough I think, no need to insist again with that and send a messenger to ask it again, seems too much and out of place).

In my worldstate anyway the Warden was Cousland and I romance Cullen so I'm glad I won't hear that... but still...

Oh and for "What pride had wrought" I searched even on the battlefield but didn't find Leliana or Cullen, I reached the temple before meeting any of them. Where are they? near the camp or further?

The good thing about it is that you have to have a specific set of events in place to hear it. You had to have romanced Leliana, not romanced Cullen and played as a female mage in origins, so to me you only get to hear that line if you really want to hear it. While I'm not personally a fan of that ship, I'm glad it exists for those who do like it. In the meantime, we get Cullen guhsing all over our inquisitors, so everybody wins :P

Cullen's right at the end, just before you enter the temple; he's fighting red templars (I think) with a few of your soldiers. Leliana's a little more difficult to place, simply because I only seem to run into her by chance. She's standing on a piece of ruin firing arrows, I'd say somewhere in the middle of the wilds. Not helpful at all I know

I don't know if you can hear that when you don't create a Dragon age Keep. I hope that it's not the basic choice they took as "canon" when you don't import any saved games.

It's not a problem I have only with Cullen, it bothers me when characters you can romance just go with someone else when you don't romance them, you just feel like your character is not so special after all. Like Blackwall fantasizing on Josephine, or Fenris having sex with Isabela, Garrus going with Tali, or Morrigan clearly wanting to have sex with Sten.

And for Cullen in the jungle, I didn't save my game anyway (I just rushed into the jungle to check who was around), so I'll keep my eyes open for Cullen at the entrance of the temple then  :P I was surprised not to see our commander on the battlefield.

I think the default world state uses a warden Mahariel who sacrificed herself, so you won't have to hear it if you don't use the keep (I assume). I'm not really sure where I stand in regards to our companions having relationships with each other. The Garrus/Tali one struck a nerve when I first saw it, but only because Garrus/Femshep is my ultimate otp :P Blackwall crushing on Josephine only bothers me because it seems their relationship has more little sweet touches than the one you have with him. I mean, he goes out and picks her flowers in the morning, where the hell was this kind of thing for the inquisitor <_<

I can't remember what Cullen says in the arbor wilds if you haven't romanced him, but I love that they changed that line if you're together. I adore battle couple's, so his little line there is definitely in my top five moments of their romance.
