That's crazy, I was not there during that "Haters period", and I'm glad I wasn't... the atmosphere now seems a lot nicer... I guess most haters were thinking that Cullen fans at the time were only stupid giggling fangirls who can't be objective, or something like that. Unfortunately it's usually what happens when people see girls crazy about a male (fictionnal) character  -_-

Hm ok I'll try to watch for the free DC when christmas comes  :P

Di they say when the next DLC for DAI would be released?

I think riverbanks's point was more that even you *did* watch all the slow boring segments and the fighting, you would've missed this fact if you didn't read the codices. Part of that, I think, is the side effect of having two three-year gaps during the game, since SOMETHING most have happened during the interregnum periods. Part of that is the devs choosing to put a significant beat in Sebastian's storyarc into those gaps, in contrast to the other characters who seemed more on less on hold. :D

Yes, yes. I know I'm always about how everyone should play DA2, but even if you do play it (and have Exiled Prince), it's still so easy to miss the key points of Sebastian's characterization because so much of it is either hidden in codices or only mentioned in passing and easy to overlook. You have to actively seek out all the information about it him (codices, the pre-game short story, now the info on WoT2 too) and put his character together from that, whereas the others are all right there, putting that information out front.

(Or you can find an obsessed stan who will shove all that in your face and make you love her faves, that works too. :P )

 Ahem. Going back to the conversation earlier about Cullen's office being a public thoroughfare: that's one of the many things about Skyhold, architecturally and logistically, that really don't make sense to me. They bug me to the point that I actually sat down and rearranged the place in my mind so that it made more sense, and stuck the new set-up into my headcanon. I'm crazy that way :D  Also, as far as I'm concerned, Cullen has a dress uniform - much like what we see at the Winter Palace - that he wears around Skyhold; the armor only goes on when he's sparring or heading outside the gates.

I'm not blaming you. Skyhold makes so little sense that I sometimes just wonder how can they even live there. My biggest problem with it is that... it's too small.

We went from SOONTM to really soon around a week ago.

It still happens, so FYI. We're generally successful in keeping it out of the Cullen thread. However, that's also why many of us never venture beyond the Cullen thread on BSN. Nevertheless, pendulums swing.

And, no, no one has said when the next DLC comes out, but given all the dwarf posts on the official channels, signs point to soon.

Ok, myself I tend not to post anywhere else either, except in walkthrough topics when I need help  :P

This topic is our Skyhold

I've always wondered how they could manage to bring all the ressources to Skyhold, it must be so hard to go so high up in the mountains regularly to deliver food, water and everything. Or they use mage teleportation  :P

That is true. There are parts of this forum that I do not dare to visit. Some people just like to find things to complain about and then they try to force their opinion (mostly created out of boredom) on everyone else  <_<

I bet for next week annoucement/release. Varric's four week multiplayer challenge is ending this weekend, so that would be really good time for Dwarf-related DLC. And all that teasing... they could give us a break and finally say something.

We went from SOONTM to really soon around a week ago.

I believe they ended up redesigning it several times (I think originally it was possible to jump to Cullen's office door from a roof or wall, if I recall?) and they may have reached the point of "ok, this at least sort of works." I agree it's too small, but I tend to treat it as having a lot of rooms we simply don't have access to in game.

For me, the biggest question is why, if this is such a great location to have trade passing through, was Skyhold lost for so long? Those two things seem mutually exclusive, honestly.

Oddly I've never experienced any hate towards me for being a fan of Cullen from non-fans. Only experienced hate from other Cullen fans solely for not thinking the exact same stuff as their head-canons/fan fics which is why I've, until recently, avoided this thread since many of the regulars seemed at first to be fan-fic/headcanon first/only but after some lurking I thankfully noticed that wasn't entirely the case lol (no offense intended, just had bad experiences with other Cullen fans).

I'm a fact and lore first kind of person, then I add in imagination to fill in all the holes/vague areas rather then the other way around, but I don't judge anyone's imaginative theories unless someone's trying to tell me that I'm wrong or they use a contradicting headcanon wish as a lore fact when there's already lore stating otherwise (if that makes sense). So yeah, rather interesting. However BSN is the only place I hang around, not any social medias so missing out on all the 'fun'.

I don't think that Skyhold is too small, as a player I mean. I already have to run and go up stairs many times just to reach Cullen's office, so if it was even bigger, I would spend my time running everywhere.

I almost never read fanfictions about Cullen, unless the lady Inquisitor is very... "basic/not clearly defined" (on purpose) and anyone could identify to her (or imagine your own IQ instead). When the IQ is too specific and sounds too much like the Mary Sue created by the author, I won't like it so I don't read it ^^ (I just don't like Mary Sues in general)

In fact usually for me fanfiction are for imagining stories that you want to see happening but you don't see them in the game (for example, a game where the character cannot be romanced, and so you read a fanfiction where he is romanced). But in DA:I I feel like Cullen is already perfect and gives you everything you wish to see or hear, so I don't feel the need to read fanfictions.

What annoys me is the attitude of "some"... hardcore fans of Amell/Cullen (doing what you said, trying to contradict other's headcanon with theirs because they feel that theirs is more official/the ultimate truth) that I can find here and there on the net, but I avoid them, and here I avoid the subject, like this peace remains  :P

Routes, camps across mountains, things like that. Actually if you leave Skyhold thru the main gate you can see camping side below.

Yeah, imagining that you don't have access to some rooms is the best solution. Though I would sacrifice some rooms to make others bigger. Josephine's office, library, proper stables. I would happily sacrifice kitchen or those small room for bottles. Why do we even need that place.

I don't understand it either. It's clear that Skyhold was occupied by different groups, but why was it forgotten? I hope we'll get (even if not really direct) answer for that.

Unfortunately that's what oftenly happens. I wouldn't call them fans. If they were, they would understand that there are people who may appreciate the same thing (in this case, person) as them, but have different opinion. I would refer to my previous post about people who just need to find something to complain about.

That second paragraph... I feel like I'm reading about myself.

Next step: really, really soon™

Then: just around the cornerTM

I have nothing against this pairing. But it's true some shippers just don't want to let it go and can annoy you like no one else o.o

Talking about Amell... Actually my canon Warden is lady Amell. But I would never pair her with Cullen. She was (well, still is) independent (and a bit obvious to any flirting) lady.

My canon Warden is lady Amell too, actually.. she almost sounds exactly like your description there...

If our Hawkes are similar too (canon Inq's already are) I call shenanigans *suspicious glances intensify*

Hah, I doubt it, no one is as stupid ekhm.... blind ekhm... you know...

Sarcastic female, mage (spirit/force), Carver a Templar, sided with mages, romanced Anders (spared him).

Well yeah I was talking about some fans who just don't want to let it go and almost consider the IQ's romance with Cullen "not right"/"unofficial" because in their own headcanon he should have feelings forever ever for no other than their Amell of 10 years ago, blahblah.

They didn't give any hint about what would be in that new DLC? so much mystery...

Is that "really soon" until the DLC's release or until they actually tell us something about it? Good grief, BioWare has been trumpeting their big update to SWTOR all over the place for months and it's not due until October. The fact that we've heard basically nothing about this DLC seems very strange.

All romances are entirely optional so only affect the player, no one else. I love how people like to forget that

The only hints we have for another DLC is Really soon and Bioware's and Dragon Age's social media accounts going nuts about deep roads and dwarfs but I am still sidelining as believing they are deliberately throwing us off the scent for what could be next.

JoH was released (on pc at least maybe one console) a few hours before its trailer was. So if they keep that lack of marketing up for the next one we'll never know until it's already available.

I'm going to be really unproffesional. Sorry.

It's not a good thing if we didn't hear anything about the DLC? does it mean it's because the release is too far away, or they don't want it to interfere with the SWTOR DLC they are launching (they don't want to make advertisement for both at the same time), or it means it will be a very empty DLC with nothing new about companions and only some new additional maps and fights and secondary quests.

What we do have is a barrage of posts about dwarves and dwarf lore. I'm trying SO hard not to get my hopes up because, well, BW and dwarves, sigh.

Sincere apologies to the 99.9% of non-Amell/Surana shipping posters in this thread who either don't bring up their dislike of it at all, or don't bring up their dislike of it unless provoked by other ship hate. I feel like a broken record but I keep coming back here in the last few weeks and finding more of this.

Well yeah I was talking about some fans who just don't want to let it go and almost consider the IQ's romance with Cullen "not right"/"unofficial" because in their own headcanon he should have feelings forever ever for no other than their Amell of 10 years ago, blahblah.

I'll take you at your word that such people exist; I have literally never seen anyone say that, and I actively seek out that pairing whereas you avoid it. Everyone I know in fandom who made fanart / made fanfic / daydreamed of Cullen with their Warden also enjoyed his DA:I romance with the Inquisitor.* All most of us want is to be able to mention liking Cullen x mage!Warden around other Cullen fans without immediately hearing "eww power imbalance" or "I'm so glad she's gone in my continuity so Cullen's heart can belong only to Quizzy", and in my experience, that's not the case in most fan forums. (Even the positivity week had a post that included a discussion of the poster's dislike of it.)

If you don't like it when you feel that people are slighting your ships, a good place to start is avoiding doing the same to them.

Based on how often you bring it up, I get the impression that it really bothers you on some visceral level. All I can offer is that it might help to look for the positive: if Cullen had treated the female mage warden the same way he treats the male mage warden (friendly, but nothing more), he wouldn't have prompted the huge fan response he did, meaning he might not have been so memorable to the writers that they wanted to include him in DA2. And if he hadn't been in DA2, he wouldn't be around for us to romance in DA:I.

And if anyone has ideas for how I can stop being viscerally bothered by other people hating on it, I'm always open to PMs.

* I'd say I like them about equally and I refer to both as OTPs, which is probably misusing the term but whatever. I prefer him with my Inquisitor for a few practical reasons, and I identify more strongly with my Inquisitor, but all of the fanart and fanfic that lured me here to discuss Cullen had him either with the Warden or Hawke. I feel the need to mention that because I'm sincerely not sure whether I'm one of the people whose motives you're interpreting that way in your above post.

I finally found out how to do this a few months ago!!! I'll need to come back tonight and edit this with how it's done, unless someone else can remember that offhand. But it is possible in the game as released, just not necessarily more convenient than the other ways to get there.

I honestly have no idea why they're still pushing SWTOR so hard. I used to play up until they made it free to play. I just can't imagine it being all the profitable for them anymore. MEANWHILE they have so many people begging and waiting for DAI DLC. Get on it BW!

____

It's actually really humorous to me because I was playing DAI hardcore for idk how many consecutive months and then I was about 99% through everything on completionist. All I had left was Doom, and I just kind of stopping playing? For a month or so? I knew the gist of what happened end-game, but maybe I just didn't want it to be over I guess? Especially with Cullen lol. Well I actually gathered my wits about me and finished last week.

Spoilers for Vana (end game discussion)

Spoiler

Anyhow, needless to say I was an emotional mess at the end of it all. Ugh I'm still a mess. So I started Origins again, after five years. And even so early into the game, I'm already more invested story-wise than in DAI, which didn't make me feel better. I started wondering why this might be the case. (Playing Cousland) I think maybe the reason everyone feels so disconnected from the Inquisitor is because there's no personal history there? You just kind of pop out of nowhere. There's nothing of your family or anything (shown)...

If they gave me the option to change one thing about DA:I, I used to think I might pick "implementing an approval system for the advisors", but the more I think about it the more obvious it is that including a short bit with the PCs at or just before the Conclave would be better. It wouldn't even have to be as long as the origins in Origins. I would love to hang out with Adaar's mercenary company or Trevelyan's family. Assuming PC race options are here to stay (which precludes Hawke-level knowledge of your background), I really hope they go back to that in DA4.
