Sincere apologies to the 99.9% of non-Amell/Surana shipping posters in this thread who either don't bring up their dislike of it at all, or don't bring up their dislike of it unless provoked by other ship hate. I feel like a broken record but I keep coming back here in the last few weeks and finding more of this.

I'll take you at your word that such people exist; I have literally never seen anyone say that, and I actively seek out that pairing whereas you avoid it. Everyone I know in fandom who made fanart / made fanfic / daydreamed of Cullen with their Warden also enjoyed his DA:I romance with the Inquisitor.* All most of us want is to be able to mention liking Cullen x mage!Warden around other Cullen fans without immediately hearing "eww power imbalance" or "I'm so glad she's gone in my continuity so Cullen's heart can belong only to Quizzy", and in my experience, that's not the case in most fan forums. (Even the positivity week had a post that included a discussion of the poster's dislike of it.)

If you don't like it when you feel that people are slighting your ships, a good place to start is avoiding doing the same to them.

Based on how often you bring it up, I get the impression that it really bothers you on some visceral level. All I can offer is that it might help to look for the positive: if Cullen had treated the female mage warden the same way he treats the male mage warden (friendly, but nothing more), he wouldn't have prompted the huge fan response he did, meaning he might not have been so memorable to the writers that they wanted to include him in DA2. And if he hadn't been in DA2, he wouldn't be around for us to romance in DA:I.

And if anyone has ideas for how I can stop being viscerally bothered by other people hating on it, I'm always open to PMs.

* I'd say I like them about equally and I refer to both as OTPs, which is probably misusing the term but whatever. I prefer him with my Inquisitor for a few practical reasons, and I identify more strongly with my Inquisitor, but all of the fanart and fanfic that lured me here to discuss Cullen had him either with the Warden or Hawke. I feel the need to mention that because I'm sincerely not sure whether I'm one of the people whose motives you're misinterpreting in your above post.

I was going to write something clever, but then I understood that you've already written everything that I could add.

As I mentioned before, I never paired my Amell with Cullen, but that's because how I roleplayed her - painfully obvious to any flirting and romantic feelings. But I have nothing against this pairing.

If I may add something about DAO. I'm not surprised former pairing got fans. There's something about forbidden crushes and hidden feelings that just makes people (and me) go aaawwww.

Also, In my opinion Cullen's infatuation with female mage was definitely better handled that Tamlen and Dalish warden situation. But that's just me.

If they gave me the option to change one thing about DA:I, I used to think I might pick "implementing an approval system for the advisors", but the more I think about it the more obvious it is that including a short bit with the PCs at or just before the Conclave would be better. It wouldn't even have to be as long as the origins in Origins. I would love to hang out with Adaar's mercenary company or Trevelyan's family. Assuming PC race options are here to stay (which precludes Hawke-level knowledge of your background), I really hope they go back to that in DA4.

I would be happy if we got more dialogue options to 'specify' our background. I think the only instances where you have that chance is dialogue with Josephine in Haven and your feelings about Free Marches during talk with Cassandra.

Though I would be very happy to have DAO-styled prologue.

I was not talking about you, don't worry, but about some people I talked to/seen posting (and not especially in this thread or anything), I was not targeting anyone HERE.

Last time when I was talking about that Amell obession of some people, it was just because that banter between the messenger and Leliana seemed odd to me (and not only to me), (Cullen sending someone else asking for very private questions), that's all.

I really like little flirts and being able to make Cullen blush as a Warden was really cute. Yes, yes, I liked it :) (even if for ME it was just a little teenager crush, and for others it means absolute neverending mad love) and you shouldn't be so angry to see someone just saying that he/she doesn't like shipping them, everyone is free to like or dislike that, and anyone if free to say it, there's no hate here ;) just personnal tastes. You're free to like it and say it, I'm free to dislike it and say it.

I was just saying that I had some conversations with quite narrow-minded/obsessed people (on some forums or deviantart for example) who would deny the IQ romance or try to force their headcannon to me or to others, and that, I don't like it. But it's like everything else, not only about that shipping especially.

So, no harm meant ;)

OK, thanks (and thanks for the clarification that it wasn't this thread, Vanalia,) because I've never seen anyone saying such things about Amell/Surana and Cullen as a pairing either, but I'm not terribly active, if at all, outside the BSN. I have seen the opposite, people who dismiss anyone else's headcannon that he continued to have feelings for a mage in that individual's world based on his mention of a mage warden (which they particularly hate.) Even most of those are not hating, although confused. I don't understand their reaction at all since it's easy enough to avoid triggering those conversations by simply not creating a worldstate with an Amell/Surana Warden - I don't understand why anyone who hates the character would create such a worldstate to play anyway. I don't favor one pairing over the other myself (and have written about both now.) I actually consider Amell and Surana distinctly different even if they were given the same origin story for one - their backgrounds are extremely different if they came to the Circle when they were older - just as I consider the human and Dalish to have very different potentials for the romance (and mages and non-mages.) I admit, although I enjoy the romance BB wrote for Cullen, I just can't seem to connect nearly as strongly with my IQs which may be why I still enjoy a warden as one alternative for stories (I also enjoy Hawke-Cullen pairings, which is funny since I haven't even played DA2.) I could even forgo origin content before the explosion, but something beyond war table mentions of your family, etc. Maybe it's partly that they've left it so vague that it feels like anything you try to headcannon will have the rug yanked out at some point...

I think there was confusion because of that discussion we had some pages before with that banter in Leliana's office, the name of Cullen was not mentionned so I wondered if she was really talking about him, as she was saying strange things that seemed a bit OOC for Cullen ("has he been drinking?" etc, and the fact that he sends a total stranger to harass Leliana about some dead person she lost, it was a bit odd and confusing for everyone)

I also wondered at the time if it was possible to hear that when you don't use the Dragon age keep, but it seems not (it needs very specific choices in it), so my question was answered ^^ there's nothing more to it.

Ooh yea I think even the journey TO the Conclave would've been nice. [Treveylan] talking/arguing with your family about your potential future. The Conclave always befuddled me a bit. Like at what point exactly did IT happen? The cinematic as far as I remember implies that people are still on there way there when everything blows to hell. If whatever conference was already under way, I think it would've been interesting to see the templar/mage discussions going on. And that would have provided better background about the war/each side, and could've helped influence your stance on the matter. Because that whole situation in the game is so....underwhelming.

I finally found out how to do this a few months ago!!! I'll need to come back tonight and edit this with how, unless someone else can do so offhand. But it is possible in the game as released, just not necessarily more convenient than the other ways to get there.

Oooh, share!

I honestly have no idea why they're still pushing SWTOR so hard. I used to play up until they made it free to play. I just can't imagine it being all the profitable for them anymore. MEANWHILE they have so many people begging and waiting for DAI DLC. Get on it BW!

____

It's actually really humorous to me because I was playing DAI hardcore for idk how many consecutive months and then I was about 99% through everything on completionist. All I had left was Doom, and I just kind of stopping playing? For a month or so? I knew the gist of what happened end-game, but maybe I just didn't want it to be over I guess? Especially with Cullen lol. Well I actually gathered my wits about me and finished last week.

Anyhow, needless to say I was an emotional mess at the end of it all. Ugh I'm still a mess. So I started Origins again, after five years. And even so early into the game, I'm already more invested story-wise than in DAI, which didn't make me feel better. I started wondering why this might be the case. (Playing Cousland) I think maybe the reason everyone feels so disconnected from the Inquisitor is because there's no personal history there? You just kind of pop out of nowhere. There's nothing of your family or anything (shown)...

*sigh* yes, agree with the spoilered part.

TwoTP? PolyTP? MultiVerseTP? :P

I joke, but your general point is well taken. :) The thread has gone through waves where more or less folk were invested in a different partner for Cullen, and it's good for everyone to be reminded that not everyone headcanons them in the same way.

And as someone who formerly had NO interest whatsoever in the Amell/Surana ship, I've now written some Cullen x Amell that I wickedly love. So you never know where your tastes might end up. :D

(Altho, Hawke x Cullen 5eva! :D  )

I have to finish the game quickly so I stop bothering you with all these spoiler tags  :P (not my fault, I like to finish the secondary quests before the end of the story... when I do the quests after it, I feel like I do it for nothing...) I might not have the patience of gathering all the shining stones for Solas, though.

Whenever I play completionist playthroughs (which means all my human and elf playthroughs) I finish up everything (except for JoH) before fight with Corypheus. Including shards. I'm sucker for all collections.

Bonus elemental resistance for every door opened. A bunch of loot containers, superb elemental resistance belts, skill rings, one of the best daggers and the best Vitaar in base game for last door... and codex entry.

Nothing plot related, but I like collecting them :shrugs:

Now I imagine mages skin transformed (full of dark veins like the skin of Sith) after too much use of lyrium  feel the power of the daaark siiiide! it was funny to romance someone in Star Wars KOTOR with a face like this, it looked so evil, even when the character was saying sweet things  :P

I want to do that final main quest, but... after that I won't have any new romance cutscene, that's sad  :(

Yeah... It's a pity you don't have new romance cutscenes. Acutally it's a pity you can't talk with companions and advisors at all. Only short one-liners. Though I think Cullen's one-liners are quite cute.

Nice drawings, hey, where's Team Alistair?  :P anyway, I take team Cullen and I adopt the lion (and Cullen of course).

I guess we would all want more romance cutscenes, and have hopes with that new DLC, even if I think that there won't be any romance cutscene for anyone in any new DLC :(
