I first read this as: running around Deep Roads in DAO LICKING lyrium veins. Also not a good idea.

*snort* Now I have THAT image in my head, along with Sifr's archdemon-playing-fetch on another thread the other day...

I'm kinda putting my fingers in my ears and closing my eyes and humming loudly about all the dwarf-deep road related hints :P My poor Cadashes have had enough disappointments and with my luck, they're just releasing a deep roads MP DLC, sigh.

When I think about it, the first kiss scene with Cullen has something illogical  :P  The IQ says "We should talk. Alone." There was no one in the office. And so they go out, where the soldiers are usually passing by? where everyone can see them?

But I admit his office is almost as "public" as the battlements, haha.

I don't know why they didn't make his bedroom like on the ground floor of that tower. There's a staircase along that inside wall right there, so he'd just have to climb a few steps. And I imagine him wanting to check on his men being treated anyway. I mean they only designed like a bunch of empty derelict rooms anyway. Or what about that line of empty rooms uuh... on that upper floor. I think it's above the courtyard. It would've been nice to see the advisors/companions bedrooms. You'd get the slightest character development without doing anything extra. Idk I'm just a sucker for seeing characters on their down-time.

Although Vanalia, back to your original statement. They might've scripted it like that for two reasons. One, it was an excuse for a change of scenery/animation sequence. And also because there are actually still troops that walk the battlements during cutscenes, and there's troops and messengers walking through the office. So sometimes when you walk into his office, there could be someone there, though not always. I'm not sure how it's timed, but after replaying some of the cutscenes I've had random troops walking past and whatnot. And I just wanna yell at them, c'mon guys you're ruining my screenshots here!

Haha, yes they are coming and going in that office all the time, but on the battlements as well, so the Inquisitor and Cullen are not more "alone" on the battlements than in the office I guess. But they could go into these abandonned rooms we can find all along the battlements. A bit dark and creepy, but at least no one goes there  :P

Well, WoT2 specifies that Cullen is very claustrophobic, hence the room on the top of the tower with a hole in the ceiling. It's actually one of the few things in the layout that does make sense, lol.

And when the rain comes down? and the cold? I think that hole in the ceiling is not really on purpose  :P but maybe that's also why he prefers to go out on the battlements for the kiss with the Inquisitor.

To be fair, it doesn't say anything about his choice of room. Only that he's claustrophobic. It could be argued, tho. :)

Ooops, didn't mean to make it sound like WoT2 said that was why. It's just fairly obvious (to me) once you know that. And he's Ferelden, I'm sure they are like most cold weather countries about at least pretending to be indifferent to the weather...

Skyhold almost seems to be magically climate-controlled; maybe rain and cold aren't an issue.

If they gave me the option to change one thing about DA:I, I used to think I might pick "implementing an approval system for the advisors", but the more I think about it the more obvious it is that including a short bit with the PCs at or just before the Conclave would be better. It wouldn't even have to be as long as the origins in Origins. I would love to hang out with Adaar's mercenary company or Trevelyan's family. Assuming PC race options are here to stay (which precludes Hawke-level knowledge of your background), I really hope they go back to that in DA4.

I 500% agree with this. It's something I've been wanting almost from the first moment I started played the game. I get that they were going for a dramatic in media res opening, but the impact of the explosion is greatly diminished that way - the people lost are just a number. Even the fact that the Divine is dead doesn't mean much if you 1) Are not familiar with the lore, 2) Have no idea who Justinia is and what she's done, or 3) Don't care about the Chantry. If we'd actually gotten to know the friends (and possibly family) our PC just lost, it would've been much more affecting. Plus we would've been able to build up our character a little instead of having to jump into their head at a highly emotional moment while they're still basically a stranger.

But oh well. Head canon, right?

Yea despite being like its own thing, Inquisition really isn't that friendly to the uninitiated in DA lore... Your main character as well as what was supposed to be a central conflict (mage/templars,) both fall heavy upon themes carried through from the previous games. And yet all these themes were present at the Conclave and yet??? perfect story setup! It reminds me of the codex entry you guys were talking about earlier of.... (anders? or sebastian? sorry I haven't played DA2 yet, forgive me.) of events occurring over a three year time span that happened off-screen.

I'm not big on the idea of giving the Inquisitor a full background origin because that defeats the central concept that makes Origins earn that name, and because it limits roleplaying a lot (if we had a fixed family like Hawke or the Couslands, we couldn't create such distinctive Inquisitors with such diverse backstories - I did enjoy coming up with my Trev's own family and knowing no one else shares her story); but this is true, we should at least have seen some of the Conclave before it blew up. By starting with the explosion right in the start menu and then jumping into the chargen, we not only lose on a first initial connection with our character, but we also lose any emotional connection we should have to that event - by the time you're done fixing your nose and eyebrows and choosing the color of your tattoos, you don't even remember the explosion anymore.

And from there it's hard to connect with that event, because it's almost like you weren't there at all - your character is talking about "all those people dying" and you don't even know who "those people" are. If we'd at least seen even a brief scene of our character in the temple surrounded by lots of generic NPCs and idk, Justinia sitting in a tall chair, we could associate the charred corpses to those people and... care more. There's some semi-important canon details that get lost in this weird sense that the explosion didn't really happen, too - Regalyan's death, for instance, doesn't even feel real, because he's just one more in the body count (and Cass barely reacts to it other than mentioning him a hundred hours late if she's romanced). If we'd at least seen him pass the screen for even one second, it'd be a lot easier to look at the charred corpses and reconcile that he's really dead.

...possibly?  I didn't actually finish any playthrough with a male character, so I've never seen that scene in-game, only on youtube. The video I remember seeing had Cullen bowing to a male Quizz, I think, but at this point I might just be confusing it with my female playthroughs where I didn't romance him. If you remember a handshake from your own game, you're probably right and I'm just mixing things up.
