That doesn't have to come from a romance, though (cough---looking at a chapter of my dwarven story from about a month ago when she makes sure she's long gone before he finds a carving he watched her working on left on his desk so neither ever has to mention it---cough,) it can just be a friendly gesture. I admit, I miss at least the special gifts from DAO, like giving Sten his sword back and giving Shale a pet rock (probably the funniest gift imo, but I love Shale.) Trying to buy affection makes a certain amount of sense if you're playing a manipulator or cynical person, but a couple of mine would cheerfully have showered several of the companions with little things she thought they'd like just because they'd smile.
I think friendship gifts are as important as romance ones. (Your Cadash must have worked hard to find that brief moment when he's not at his office working.)
I love that moment when you give Sten back his sword! Then I run to Dog, because Sten/Dog scene you get after that is wonderful.
If I remember correctly, after that Sten refers to Warden as 'kadan'. When Bull explains what does it mean, I was really surprised.
True, it's possible to give little gifts just for the pleasure to give pleasure
the artifical thing was the fact that it was possible to go from "hated" to "loved" just with gifts
like if gifts could buy friendship ^^
Yeah, approval system was kinda messed up in DAO with those in-game gifts and later with gift packs you could buy. You could literally do everything your companions disapprove of, yet you could easily make them love you.
