No, we only get 8 slots as well.Do the consoles get more?? I realize I'm not even sure how that works. Is it just a wheel, where you toggle through them all or something?

I haven't gone into the behaviors yet, but I may need to. Thanks for the suggestion. I took revival out of his eight slots since he used to do a good job of reviving on his own, but now I feel like I have to make him do it manually, which means one less spell slot.
TBH, I'm not really keen on having to be so strategic, so looks like I'm in for a trudge. The first big darkspawn battle everyone but me died and I was almost out of healing pots, on casual. LOL Granted, I wasn't being very careful, but, ugh. It's also been about six months since I played regularly, so I'm rusty.
O...oh. That may be a problem. There are harder fights as you go deeper, with more annoying powerful enemies.

Just pointing out, that not your regular companions, but new characters are the ones doing the most talking, so it doesn't really matter who you have with you.

Oh! This. This. This. That one fight would be endless if not for Dispel.
Though I'm speaking about nightmare difficulty.

Yes, the two new dwarves say the most, but my point was that we were talking about the actual companions specifically, not the two newbies. R2 was dropping Varric for another companion, and I was affirming her decision because Varric didn't have anything really insightful to say during the DLC.Just pointing out, that not your regular companions, but new characters are the ones doing the most talking, so it doesn't really matter who you have with you.

Well, I was running Cass, Varric and Dorian. Varric was the one doing the most talking... But you're right, nothing that you would really miss.
That made me rethink taking him in my next pt... I think I'll switch him to Cole.
Ah, don't say that!

Sorry, I just meant I'm assuming they limited PC players to 8 slots because console players only have 8, in some weird idea of making everyone play with the same limits. Which may have been what they had to do to make it possible to play it on the PC using a controller, but since I'm not, I find it extremely annoying that it isn't an option to turn on more abilities or something (being able to change abilities in slots during a fight, even, it isn't as if you reload spells and weapons shots fresh every morning in your brain and can only remember 8 at a time...
)
It's just him complaining about the Deep Roads.
From what I can tell, Iron Bull, Dorian, and Cole all have more specific commentary, even if your IQ is a dwarf. Varric hates the Deep Roads and caves and doesn't care about traditional underground dwarven culture, so I suppose it makes sense he's not interested in anything except getting his a** back to the surface alive.

No kidding! There's a reason dwarfdom is celebrating. Loudly. And probably drunkenly
. But the implications go well beyond dwarves-only (and now I'm imagining all sorts of conversations with Cullen and Cass and Leliana...)
I'm considering replacing Solas for Dorian and Varric in favor of Cass on my first PT since neither seems to have that much to say of interest. How much do you need a rogue?

Ah, I see. Gotcha. Yeah, I also don't mind having extra toolbars running all around my screen if it gives me easy access.
I feel like an old school DnD mage with only my two spells I currently have memorized. LOL

I'm not surprised. I'm closet dwarf fan and I'm vibrating with excitement!
...and with that closet part cease to exist.
I would take Dorian.
There's no need for rogue class (aka doors).

I brought Cole cause his DPS is massive with the Assassin skill tree. He absolutely murders everything. And yeah, Cass has a few good lines.

Unfortunately for me, I've been slowly working through different combinations of party members with my IQs, and I've just begun taking Cole out as a regular with Zhenya (he takes a lot more damage than anyone else and I'm not sure what to do about it...) Somehow from the sound of the combat this DLC isn't the place to work out that learning curve
. And I have yet to take IB out at all with a party, not because I don't like him as a companion (I really wish I could hear his banter) but because he's a 2-hander and a reaver, while I'm a S&S type at heart and have never really liked the berserker/reaver spec. So he's another one I'm going to have to gear and learn how to work with, sigh...

I'm one of those people who endure combat fot the sake of story, so I'm gonna say, yuph. Worth it. Not just lore, but your two new companions rock (pardon the pun). Valta and Renn's relationship is wonderful. I love them both. I've only got partly down, and then hopped back up because I needed a few levels.*snort* Yeah, I think I'm screwed. LOL
The lore can't be *that* great...
Apology to any who caught before the edit. My nook hates me today.

I'm five hours in. Nightmare Knigh Enchanter with lvl27 party. Hell I'm close to ending! I even have to go back because
Spoiler
^ that may be why, Knight-Enchanters are practically like playing in godmode. I wouldn't count KE playthroughs as the typical, that's probably what's skewing the average completion time.
In any case, I just finished it with my Artificer archer at level 26 on Nightmare with around 12 hours, accounting for all side quests, collections and expeditions. I know I'm a hella slow player though (my DA2 playthroughs go over 100+ hours on a game that shouldn't take more than 50/70, for instance) so I'm also an outlier; I'd guess the average is around 7-8 hours for general players, give some if on Nightmare, take some if playing KE.
Now to go back all these pages on the thread and look at all the spoilered discussion I was avoiding before! ![]()
