Whatever happens with Solas - no matter how terribly, horribly heart-wrenching the conclusion to his romance arc may be -  as long as I get to have a PC ride off into the sunset with Cullen, I will be COMPLETELY satisfied. He was my first Dragon Age love back in Origins (sorry Alistair, you're a close second, babe ) and seeing him finally get a happy ending will mean more than just about anything else in the series. It's been a long time coming.

I can see that now: Leliana and Josephine hearing crashing noises, run into the room finding a rather dazed and somewhat indisposed Cullen and a very self satisfied Herald in the middle of the wreckage of expensive antique furniture and knick knacks.

Ironically, for me it was almost the opposite. Cullen's like my long-term relationship and his DA:I romance has some uncanny similarities with some things I've written in the past. So romancing him in game at long last was like slipping on an old robe for me, with no real surprises. But then there's that bald elf, and he just threw me for a loop. Definitely didn't expect that, even after seeing "Chill Dude" in the War Table concept art. LOL Funny how things turn out. 

 

Super shallow as it is, I think I actually would romance him more often if he had that cool hair. I got to just before the Winter Palace with my Solas playthrough before my PS4 decided to delete literally every save from every game for no reason and I just can't bring myself to go over it again.  I mean, I'd still want to punch him if he had hair, but more in a sexy way, you know? I am really looking forward to watching Trespasser's romanced Solas scene on youtube. Definitely the best content I don't play. 

 

It's weird though. I can't remember what I thought when I first saw this version of Solas. I know later, I came to think/hope this was Dorian because elven magister was just such an intriguing idea to me. But I do remember not trusting him in the New Home concept art and my distrust levels just kept falling from there.  For once my Cersei levels of paranoia paid off!

I also personally doubt that we'll see a turn for the worse with his lyrium issues, which is something I've been seeing float around tumblr today. I'd honestly love for them to spend that many words on him, but I just don't see it happening.

 

tumblr is honestly doing logic cartwheels to monger this whole artificial climate of fear and paranoia around this DLC, it's amazing to see. I know we're half conditioned to think that BioWare games always have miserable endings (though that's not actually true), but literally all Mike has said is that we get to choose whether the Inquisition goes on or shuts down. And from that, people are creating these extensive scenarios where the Inquisitor dies, the love interests die, you have to kill your love interest, you have to eliminate entire races, you have to make evil pacts, you destroy half of Thedas.... wow. I magine if Mike had hinted at any possible tragic endings.

 

But I'm with you on that, I'd love for them to bust the whole DLC budget on more love interest scenes, but I really doubt they'll squander what little romance content we get on killing off Cullen or Blackwall for lol tragedy points, or making you kill Bull for the drama, etc. The only romances that may not get a ride-off-into-the-sunset ending, I think, are the egg (though Weekes did say from like day one that he only added that romance in over the extension so he could sip on fan tears, so idk what we were expecting), and maybe a Divine Cassandra, if she doesn't get the same "I changed the rules" handwave as Divine Leliana did.

 

But as far as Cullen is involved... we'll probably get something mushy and cute, maybe something naughty if we're super lucky (I'd love even just a tiny terribad sexy line like Kaidan's morning wood line in Citadel  ), and I think that'll be all. Cullen is sort of being phased out of the story at this point, they probably won't open any new threads around his lyrium addiction (whether he's on or off it) and whatnot. Wherever a romanced Inquisitor goes, he'll likely just follow and get his chapter wrapped up at that.

I did and it was amazing. But the rest of the game, not quite as much. I'm still looking for the overriding "this is why I do what I do" like I have with Adaar and Cadash. And now that I'm trying to get a definitive worldstate ready to go, I'm trying to deal with the dissonance of my canon romance not being one of my two favorites.

I'm convinced that since Solas hates my guts and I drank from the Well, Solas will either kill or abduct me soooooo... at least Solas doesn't have it in for Cullen?  I guess he just gets to live the rest of his life without his true love? Hooray for the drama and the tragedies!

The Solasmancers are going to be unhappy, as there's not a snowball's chance in hell that they will get their happily-ever-after with the Dread Wolf. But I don't think Trespasser is doomed to end in soul-crushing misery, with the Inquisitor dead and your LI clutching their bloody corpse. Just saying goodbye is sometimes plenty sad.

Aaaw, I was so excite.  It seems the tiles are bugging out even with the spoilers toggle lifted, and I have to load a Hakkon save to update the tiles. Only I lost my Hakkon saves, so... oh well.

I'm more irritated by the lack of wardrobe. When it comes out, I should have completed the game and seen all the Skyhold cutscenes in the stupid pyjamas.

Are you playing on console? I've managed to forget the PJs at this point with all the pretty outfit mods that have come out on PC, but I do feel for players on console still stuck with that beige monstrosity.

 

I want the Nug because I want my super ultra rare bow schematic right from the start. It's the perfect starter bow design for my quizzie, but I've only found it like once after a million hours farming chests into my last playthrough, who knows if I'll ever find the schematic for it again. I also want the super duper expensive Templar armor schematic from the start, it looks gorgeous on rogues and I want it for my starter armor without having to amass fortunes for it first. And I want the Hakkon and Descent schematics from the start too, without having to play them mid-campaign.

 

Mostly I just want the pretties at this point, I've played this game enough times that I don't care about RNG luck and balanced money-sink mechanics anymore, I just want everyone to look awesome all the time. Aesthetics are really important!!

Ashe posted her interview with Mike Laidlaw about Trespasser and the end of DA:I. Some nice tidbits about the DLC, like how it's totally self contained, so you won't see Skyhold at all once you start it. But you'll have all the undercroft stuff available to you in case you forget your fave armor. The emphasis on the companions makes me hopeful!
