So spoilers are starting to spread here too? I guess I won't come back until I finish the DLC...

 

It's inevitable that we'll want to talk about stuff as we finish, but at least everyone's been good and tagging + hiding their spoilers. Count on the Cullen thread to keep it classy.

 

But yes, if you don't want to even hover near any hint of a spoiler, even under cuts, then it might be the case to go on blackout until you play it. I went completely away from fandom for a couple days prior to release, until I was actually playing it myself, and it paid off; I managed to avoid all spoilers until I was comfortable looking at them.

The non-romanced, off lyrium, Inquisition disbanded one is pretty fantastic, IMHO.

 

Do you have a screencap?  I'd love to see that variant, but I don't know how long it'll take me to play through the ending with my non-Cullenmancer IQs to see it in my own game, the canon IQ is already taking me far too long to finish.

I haven't seen Sera's slide yet, but cool to know Inky gets something in it! Is it a little crossbow? That sounds adorable!

 

One good thing this complication did was that it sent me into a vortex of research for references to how archery would historically work for disabled persons, before the modern contraptions we see today in paralympic sport were around. Some very interesting ideas there.

 

I thought about Ari switching to crossbows, but there's still the issue of reloading it one-armed between shots mid-combat. Then that gave me ideas about Varric and Bianca agreeing to replicate their revolutionary but super dangerous invention of an automated, self-reloading crossbow just this once, for the Inquisitor's sake and everything she did for them, everything she sacrificed for the world etc, and that actually made me happy to have Varric around, so there's that.

 

I really like the idea now, Sera and Varric and Three Eyes (and Bianca and Dagna too) putting their heads together to come up with some custom contraption for Inky. Even if she won't fight much anymore and it's just for sport, to practice the old hobby, I like Ari still having some way to shoot. The archery was such a crucial element for building her character when I was coming up with her character concept and backstory that it's hard to imagine it just gone.

Eeeeeeeeeeee the little crossbow is adorable, I love it!  I joined the Jennies too, so yes, I'll definitely take that as Ari's new weapon. 

 

Oh, and that non-romanced slide for Cullen is gorgeous. Wow. I need a clear HQ screenshot of that, it's definitely desktop-worthy.

I was very happy with most stuff.

However, I was disappointed that there was no mention of how the IQ managed to help get Cullen off lyrium if she chose to keep him on it throughout the main story (and at the end of the main campaign chooses "now it's time to move on..."). It seems like Trespasser just treated that whole scenario the same as if you told him to stay strong and not take it - there ended up being no difference. Kinda takes the wind out of the sails for an angsty Templar romance. And what of a Templar IQ? I suppose they left it open for head-canons...I can go on believing that Rhiannon found a way to use her abilities without lyrium with the help of the Seekers that Cass rebuilt. Overall I was happy with the romance though. But Rhiannon did get her teeth kicked in over other stuff....stuff...stuff....that and I never got Blackwall's approval high enough for his crisis quest to trigger in the main campaign so he didn't even show up in the DLC. I'm not sure I could go back and fix that because I've done everything I can and at the end I still can't get his approval high enough. And she and Solas hate each other throughout the main campaign. And that ending slide for a Cullen-mance with disbanded Inquisition! Totally love the lack of children BUT THEY GET A FUR-BABY!!! I chose to disband because of the arm too...that and Rhiannon's professional composure finally cracked. That swear scene fit PERFECTLY. It all just got too heavy...and a particular turn of events resulting from telling someone way earlier to follow her lead and "do your duty" was the straw that broke the camel's back. Duty be damned she couldn't take it anymore and walked away from all the crap.

haven't been on tumblr yet so dont know how it's over there . Have been in the solas thread and they all seem so heartbroken and sad. I just finished my Lavellan solas romance and I feel like eating icecream and watching ghost or something like that. The feels in this DLC almost killed me. Also if you didn't take sera adventuring do it the next time she happens to be one of the sweetest companions ever. Her notes on Cullen and the inquisitor made me laugh so hard

Of course, that all depends on what happened to Cass as well - in my game she rebuilt the Seekers, and does spend time in the DLC talking about how she had to be selective as to who she allowed back in. I will believe that Rhiannon no longer needs lyrium for her abilities...til Bioware says otherwise. I really can't picture a clean Cullen being with someone who is still using...so that's how I'll roll with that one.

 

Bioware could have been very nasty to us with it too. They could have had him die from withdrawls, or show them losing their memories. But nope, happy ending! I feel good about it.

And even better, the slide with the fur-baby in the end was the icing on the cake. They can totally be the awesome auntie and uncle to Mia's kids. So...as a non-marriage child-free person IRL...this was AWESOME and I was SO VERY HAPPY with the outcome because Bioware made it work for everybody. YAY FOR EVERYBODY!

 

I also picture all the uproar when folks find out they tied the knot in secret. In the beginning when Josie was telling Cullen about all the proposals I was picturing some big scene where they would have to deal with political arrangements coming in for the both of them.

I admit I haven't seen the version where Quizzie says no, but I thought it was such a nice touch that they even added the option. That's the part I was talking about being so coincidental with the things we've talked about here in the thread; at least I haven't seen that sentiment expressed much around other Cullen fandom groups. But yes, even if it's awkwardly worded, the writing does acknowledge that maybe you just want to be together and raise your mabari and play with Branson's kids instead of having your own, so that was really cool.

 

I also fully admit I was really, really happy to have the option to marry Cullen, since that's where my headcanon was going anyway. I really wasn't expecting that to be in the game, like at all, and the way he proposed was so cute, I was screaming around the house.

 

It's kinda adorable how both of my still-standing ships in the series are now married with their own mabari kid. Who knows, Ostwick and Starkhaven are near enough that Lady Hawke and Prince Vael can come spend a few days with Lady Trevelyan and Ser Rutherford over the spring, and vice versa. Boy and (....need to think of a good name for Cullen's mabari now!) would have fun playing together, too.

It's a war hound, it's supposed to be big and intimidating. Remember how big your mabari was in cutscenes in DAO and DA2? I like that they got the size right in the slide at least, the "mabari" we fought in-game in DAI were the size of average dogs. I wouldn't even recognize them as mabaris if they didn't have the enemy name tag.

 

eta: looking back through my caps, the beastie is huge in the wedding scene too. Now that's a respectable full size Fereldan war hound!

Thanks I was going to redo it tonight to find out what it said for peacekeeping.

 

I actually think the IQ has already met his family. Because during one of his chats in front of the gazebo he says something like Mia can't wait to see you again or something. Oh! when you ask about his family. Btw was Mia married w/ kids pre-Trespasser? If so I totally missed that.

 

Unrelated but has anyone found the sword used by the IQ in the Trespasser trailer? I have to watch it again but I'm pretty sure it's the one the IQ raises up during the cutscene when you first get to Skyhold. There is a sword in the game that has a similar hilt but it is not the same. Like I've been trying to find out about this damn sword for months now because I want to make it.

I'm really happy they put the marriage in there. Honestly I can't see Cullen getting married on the spot like that let alone at the Winter Palace (I really feel like that'd be the last place on earth he'd get married- that maybe it'd be more appropriate if they got married after the events of Trespasser.) But I completely understand why they needed to do it that way, though I wish the companions were there at least. I could see him proposing to her there with a slide at the end saying they tied the knot with all there friends in attendance. I guess that's my headcanon but I can dismiss that because we got to freaking SEE the ceremony. Who would've thunk.

I'm so happy though, omg this DLC was everything. Gonna go bathe in feels.

Yes, the IQ has to have met Mia in some capacity already if Mia is eager to see her "again." I imagine Mia must have been to Skyhold already at some point of the past two years, if only to give Cullen grief about not writing home, and that's when she met the IQ. Meeting the siblings probably means we haven't met Branson and Rosalie yet, and possibly the extended family - Branson does have a four years old son, according to one of Cullen's dialogue branches and his DLC codex entry.

 

And funny you should ask about Mia being married, Gala literally just asked Brianne the same question earlier today and got this:
