SPOILER
SpoilerThere's been ending slides posted up. A non-romanced Cullen not on lyrium opens up a retreat for retired and recovering Templars. A non-romanced Cullen on lyrium disappears shortly after the DLC and ends up begging for lyrium on the streets. A romanced Cullen (either way) stays with the IQ no matter what.
(spoileroo)
The bolded: omg seriously????? I'd seen the slide but not the text, but that's... that's perfect.
That's exactly the kind of reactivity I wanted to see from Cullen regarding the Templars once he left, the kind of empathy and compassion for the people whose shoes he's been on that I expected out of his character in the main game.
Maker, finally I can see the full picture of Cullen that I wanted to see in this game. It comes late, but I knew it had to still be there in him somewhere. I can accept that he was just too focused on the Inquisition and his own recovery to see the larger picture during the main campaign, but once things settled down he realized he had to do more for his own than just wash his hands off them. Good, good. So good.
lmao it's a good thing you can't see me, I actually teared up about this. This here, this is the Cullen I love. That's definitely becoming my official headcanon as what he does even if romanced, once he and Inky retire to do "good work on their own terms," as the slide says. He has the money, the contacts and the means to do that now, and it's such a perfect conclusion to his larger character arc.
Perfect.
