SWtOR's expansion, lol? Or just MMORPGs generally?

I have no problem with the default names in fics (well, except that I don't actually like a lot of them that much,) but giving them unique names, for me, makes it feel like I can write several stories about a Lavellan x Cullen, for instance, without anyone confusing one with another. I know I've seen a story a couple of times by a fanfic writer I recognized and assumed it was a continuation of something else they wrote with the default name, then being confused until I figured out it was supposed to be a completely different one. Sometimes it's obvious immediately, but other times it's like putting on a shoe that doesn't fit quite right until you realize you grabbed your daughter's shoe :P

LOL Oh I'll be the first to admit that this makes far more logical sense than my own approach! And maybe it's also part of the fact that I've primarily written about Hawke. Dunno.

Aaand, no, I haven't started the SWTOR expansion yet. LOL But I'm seriously considering it! :D The original campaign kind of bored me, but the new one seems really cool!

Some of the original story lines were a blast, though I thought the best ones were on the Imperial side myself (though as stories go, SWtOR isn't nearly on par with DA.) I particularly enjoyed the ending for the Sith Inquisitor - nothing is quite as satisfying as walking out of the storm of lightning your opponent unleashed on you, untouched, and putting him on his knees in front of the entire dark council and taking his seat. But they stopped doing class stories, and I lost interest after I played the basic ones through. I've heard the new expansion is supposed to have some real class/story content finally, but I'm waiting to hear if that's true. Not that I have time right now...

I used to play a lot of MMORPGs, and generally you have to have a unique name for your character, and I always got annoyed at having to try 8 or 10 before I'd get something (and then realized I hated that name.) Hence a lot of PCs with names that are simply Russian nouns or adjectives that I picked by flipping through the dictionary. ;)

Coming up with unique name for MMORPG is like lottery. "Oh, will this name work here? Last game it worked..." After a while I started to use Rascoth in most of them and it clung to me.

But I noticed something nice lately. More and more MMORPGs ask for first and last name of your character, which is way easier than getting that one name right.

Yeah I actually have two Lavellans who are Solavellan; in AO3 tags I name them so it's not confusing.

Yeah Hawke's just different. I feel awkward reading a non-default name Hawke in fic.

I tend not to use the default names, mostly because I have this obsessive tendency to want the meaning to fit the character. Hawke's a perfect example. My go to name for her is Miriam. Same root as Marian (Hebrew: Mara) which means sorrow. Completely appropriate for Hawke, though I've also used Lilith, so the idea of naming her after Adam's first wife, who told him to stuff it after he tried to lord it over her, amuses me.

As for the dog... Shmooples the Third.

The Sith Inquisitor had the best storyline in the original campaign, especially if you went full Light Side.

It's why I'm a little sad that apparently the new expansion will have "Republic = Light" and "Imperial = Dark Side" as the default canon, because they wrote the Light Sided Imperials as far more interesting and complex characters than their pure villainous Dark Side counterparts, who were evil for no other reason than because they enjoyed kicking puppies.

Oh my Gamikai... you're right!

I knew something about that phrase was familiar when I heard him say it, but between GE/JR,  Jo Wyatt and Adam Howden voicing a lot of the NPCs running around Ostagar, I couldn't place exactly where I'd heard that sentence before?

Clearly, Cullen's brother is the Ostagar Ash Warrior... semi-confirmed rumour!

Agreed about the SI! Humorously, my Sith Assassin probably had a much lower body count than my jedi because she stealthed past a lot.  I hadn't heard that about the default though. That bites because I enjoyed my light side PT of a sith warrior much more than running through as dark side (I had a lot of fun headcannoning why she made the choices she did, including occasional dark choices to cover her a**.) I was annoyed that I couldn't easily play a very ambiguous BH, agent, or smuggler, though. Well, if they're forcing you even more into preset paths, dunno if I'm really interested...

I always saw the Light Side Sith characters as not so much "good" as just being pragmatic evil, which is what made them far more dangerous than the chronic backstabbers they are surrounded by. Darth Marr was depicted the same way,  as the most reasonable and pragmatic individual on the Dark Council and that's part of why both him and the SI were effectively running the Empire by the end of the expansions.

And to make this slightly on-topic, it'd be nice if Bioware had GE/JR play someone in KOTFE. Even more if he voices a descendant of Mical... although I guess they'd have to leave it ambiguous whether he was related to the Exile or not, lest we risk the ire of those who shipped her with Atton.

(Although I'm more annoyed the Exile was killed off to begin with)

Anyway, I'm almost... almost to Trespasser, and I got a war table banter from Leliana and Cullen I've never heard before and I'm wondering if it's romance related.

L: Are you alright?
C:I'm just waiting, like everyone else.

There's more, but I can't remember right now.

No it is not romance related.

The dialogue refers to if the Inquisitor drank from The Well of Sorrows.

The dialogue you written is if the Inquisitor did not drink from the Well.

If he/she did drink then you will get this dialogue:

Leliana: You're concerned.

Cullen: The consequences of drinking from that Well...(sighs)..never mind.

There is only one romance dialogue Cullen has at the War Table. The rest is just simple banter.

Hey guys! I have a question about some Cullen dialogue.

I was updating my Restored Cullen Dialogue mod last night and when trying to test it and make sure all of the dialogue was working properly, the "Did you ever cross paths with Hawke in Kirkwall?" line was giving me problems, because I couldn't figure out what my Inquisitor needed to do to trigger this dialogue option. Can it even be triggered? This has probably been discussed here already, but I haven't been around much lately.

I ended up changing the plot flags required to trigger it so I could test the mod, and thought about possibly including it in the mod, but I wanted to see if anyone knew of a way to properly trigger it first.

EDIT: Grabbed some screenshots:

My guess would be, you have to visit Varric on the ramparts first, meet Hawke, then go down and talk to Cullen. Maybe?

Nope. =\ I tried out several saves to try to get the dialogue to trigger. Before talking to Hawke, after talking to Hawke, after meeting up with the Warden ally with Hawke, right before Adamant, right after Adamant... Nothing. The dialogue is set to only show up once per game, and after I removed the plot flag required to trigger it, it was even showing up on a save right before the final battle... so that means I never got it.

I've added this to my mod, but don't have it up for download yet, because I want to make sure there's not a proper way to trigger it first. I actually now have it set to trigger after Varric introduces the Inquisitor to Hawke, like you mentioned.

Hmm.

Never gotten that option in any of my play-throughs and your mention of it is the first I've heard of it.

I do know if you do not speak to Cullen in Haven, the dialogue does change. Perhaps this causes it to trigger?

I've also never gotten it, nor heard of it. I don't recall Cullen having much more to say when he's located down at that temporary spot in the courtyard beyond the first flirty conversation. I may never have even gone to talk to him there after talking to Varric/Hawke on the ramparts. But TBH, I would've been OVER THE MOON at this reference, so my guess is that it's deleted dialogue. Huh. Maybe they had intended to use that Keep tile once upon a time after all! <3

Sad that it sounds like he and Hawke didn't get along tho.  Is there no option for him to sound like he and Hawke were on the same side/friends? Maybe that's another reason they added then removed the Keep tile. That the original code only had him at odds with Hawke.

My Hawke sided with the mages, but there is different dialogue for a Hawke that sided with the Templars. Here's a transcript with conditionals:

I *think* I've gotten the "have you ever crossed paths with Hawke in Kirkwall" line, but I really can't remember what I did to trigger it or if my memory is very accurate. I always chatted with every character and used most of the dialogue options. Just a wild guess, but maybe Varric confirms at one point that he knows Cullen from Kirkwall. Then the Inquisitor can make the assumption that if Cullen knows Varric, he might know Hawke too, hence the question.

Maybe you could ask Brianne on Twitter?

CULLEN [IF HAWKE SACRIFICED DURING HERE LIES THE ABYSS and WAS FEMALE]: (Sighs.) She seemed invincible then.

Aaah, so the "invincible" line was about Hawke after all, as we suspected. Pity it has to be tied to both siding with the mages and killing Hawke, I'd love to have heard that line on my game, but those conditions are nah.

Still, good to know Cullen secretly considers Hawke invincible. She'd never let him live it down if she heard that. ^_^

This is why I'm confused about why I've never gotten it on any playthrough. I always talk to every character at every chance, and take all of the dialogue options possible. My Inquisitors have always asked Cullen if he knew Varric from Kirkwall, but the Hawke dialogue has never triggered.

I don't really do Twitter, but if someone else wants to ask, go ahead! :)

I have vague memories of something like that showing up in the game, but they are very vague. The dialogue does look a lot like the dialogue you get if you ask him about his experiences in Kirkwall. Maybe it's like Josephine's explanation of Baron du Rellion's ownership of Haven: you only get the dialogue if you don't open up the "Kirkwall" dialogue branch in Haven. Since most of us do exhaust every possible dialogue tree at the first opportunity, it would explain why we haven't seen it.

Also, hello everyone! Hope you're all enjoying Trespasser!
