Sigh, Bull could've been a really cute romance. Giant qunari boyfriend, tiny elf boyfriend (what I played)... hugs and kisses behind the inn, sweet cuddles in bed... BUT NO. /grumps off

lol, omg, this is me still learning how from the hubby who picked it up like anything.

sooooo.... really over simplified version:

1. use PC

1.a. use fraps (paid version) to get in-game vid capture

1.b. use dai cinematic tools to pop in/out of flycam, pause gameplay in cutscenes, turn off HUD, etc. for more mastery over vid capture

2. take vid i want, put it in folder for to mess around with it in that folder

2. a. run console command script on vid to convert it to a series of bmp (<< i do believe this was a software the hubby installed expressly for this purpose. i will have to ask him. also, i am still in process of memorizing command script)

2.b. have bmp files from vid

3. make gif in gimp

3.a. got gimp installed

3.b. open bmps as layers in gimp

3.c. futz around in gimp with cropping bmps, scaling them down to 448p, occasionally run animation filter to check how it's looking (<<um...yeah, really technical there)

3.d. export gimp file as gif (have to figure for framerate, etc.... geez, i'm bad at explaining this in a forum post)

.....

if this is of interest, maybe i should make a tumblr blog post on how to do this and where to get the tools. it was complicated to get the set-up, but fairly easy once all the tools were in place. would anyone be interested in a post like that?

Omg... well that is very involved!!! Gosh, thank you so much for that write up! I think making gifs takes far more talent and expertise than I'm capable of having lol But now I'm even more impressed by gif-makers!! And I'm sure said more talented individuals would appreciate such a tumblr post :D

Well now, on to more childish things...

So, quick question, guys. I just disbanded the templars and made them fight for us as knights. That won't hurt the Cullen romance, will it? Cause he wasn't too happy, lol! (I did get to yell back at him, aww, our first lovers' spat!)

There's no difference with him as far as I know, other than you get a different quest later with mostly Leliana's involvement rather than Cullen's.

Between the wedding and a planned chapter turning into a monster, I finally gave up and broke off a shorter portion that stands alone so I wouldn't feel so guilty about being behind...

Thanks!! Yeah I've never taken the templar route before beyond Skyhold, so this should be interesting! Honestly, even if the romance doesn't work, I'll be okay. I'm just turning cartwheels at finally playing my long-awaited Auren  My finger is broken from hitting "printscreen" so much

It's amazing what playing a different character can do to how you perceive the various characters. I'm also tending to pick more dialogue choices that align with my own thoughts and responses, probably because Auren is about my age and has a similar disposition (though we're definitely different people). So I choose a mix of friendly and aggressive responses and every now and then toss in a funny lol As for the characters...

Cassandra - Can't say anything has changed here. I feel more like we're equals though since we're closer in age. But her best friend status remains solid.

Cullen - Well I have my boyfriend goggles on this time so he's become pretty cute. But again, not much has changed.

Josephine - Creators know why but I'm actually interested in what she has to say this time around! I may actually complete her story arc for the first time.

Leliana - She's still too cool for me to be friends with. When will senpai notice me. Auren had to ask about her and Justinia because he was curious to hear of another same-sex couple (he has a lover from his past); I expected she would be snappish about it and had to chuckle; poor Auren was quite sheepish.

Iron Bull - Here's another one that's gone a full 180! I quite like him and Auren feels very comfortable around him. He exudes confidences and has a protective aura about him. Auren has never seen a qunari before and finds him.... impressive.

Blackwall - His reticence seems suspicious, though it's hard to act like I don't know the truth. I don't think he'll be in my party much this time.

Solas - Okay, this is one of the biggest shockers: Auren doesn't like him. And it makes ME dislike him!! A total 180 from Alin (previous character)!!! He's so erudite and quite dogmatic in his principles; I guess it's really not surprising that he clashes with down-to-earth Auren. When he calls Auren "lethallin" Auren was thinking, oh, suddenly we're friends? Hmm.

Dorian - Well this isn't so unexpected since I've felt it creeping up, but he's becoming more delightful. (Doesn't hurt that he's sporting the most wicked mohawk, thank you modders! haha.) Will they clash on the slavery issue, yep. But I can 100% see myself doing a Dorian romance eventually (plenty of time before the next game comes out...) and make it my canon.

Sera - Alin rather tolerated her and thought she was a bit too immature and mischievous. Auren... finds her adorable LOL She's a lot like his kid sister, so he might be taking her under his wing. Her dislike of elven culture stumps him, but he's willing to listen.

Varric - This is a character who's making less and less of an impression each time I play the game. Not sure why. He just seems like he doesn't belong.

Vivienne - I thought they would get along quite well, but it's not going in that direction. She baffles him. Intelligent people usually do.

Think that's everyone. How about you guys? Have you found your perception of different characters changing between playthroughs? It really took me be surprise, especially coming out of a Solavellan romance and feeling so sighing-bittersweet-lovestruck towards Solas and now... this?! Suddenly I (or my character) don't trust him with a ten foot pole. Bizarre!

ah, thanks for these steps. the one thing that has stopped me from attempting to make gifs is slicing up the video for gimp (apparently photoshop does it for you). do you recall what program you used for that? every other HowTo I've ready made it sound like I had to divide up the video manually into chunks, the prospect of which succeeded in draining all the fun out of it for me. <_<

Naw, nothing affects the romance. He doesn't like any choice you made after that scene (because I was worried about the same thing and reloaded), but advisors have no approval, so you can't mess it up.

Echoing Tish's point, by doing the templar quest instead of the mages, you've officially locked yourself out of more romance content during the Samson quest. Now you'll only get the Calpernia quest, which doesn't involve Cullen at all. Folks have differing notions of which quest they like better, but I remain supremely supremely annoyed that you miss out on A WHOLE FREAKIN QUEST WITH YOUR BOYFRIEND by making that one small choice, esp when it seems choosing the templar quest was more likely to get you more content with him (and the fact that the freakin game guide didn't spell this out). If you've done the mages previously, you've already seen the Samson content. Cullen's romance content consists of just a few extra flirt lines. But still.

Some of mine change. Cass, Dorian, and Vivienne generally leave me with about the same feel. To me, Leliana changed a little in the PT where she was romanced by the HoF. I agree that Varric doesn't really seem to have his heart in much of anything, but there's a difference in a dwarven PT---he's a little chattier, but a lot of that is about the Carta, etc. Sera insults you in different ways right off the bat as either a Dalish or a dwarf, sigh, but she hasn't really seemed different other than that (I'll have to wait for a f!qunari to romance her, I guess.) I noticed a little difference with Solas between my romance and non-romance Dalish, but he's a lot more distant toward a dwarven IQ (though Zhenya's made a few choices I know he disapproved, lol.) BTW, I'm fairly certain most of what he knows about dwarves he's learned from dreams in the Fade...

Cullen doesn't have quite the same warmth with a dwarf as a romanced Dalish, but while he's brisk and a little distant early in the game, I finally got as far as Perseverance last night with Zhenya, and I actually got a sense from that scene with her that I didn't get with my Dalish, romanced or not. It felt like something broke and he had finally decided to fully trust her as a friend, though I admit some of my feeling about the scene had to do with the fact I made Zhenya a Templar herself. But for all I've complained about how horribly done some of the cutscenes are with dwarves, this one was very well done. His eyes and the angle of his head are looking directly at her, though nless you've experienced the other, that may not seem like much. It's extremely striking when you've gotten resigned to only seeing your hairline in cutscenes with Cullen or the bottom of a table instead of him.

Huh. That's SO interesting. Thanks for sharing! It may be a consequence of my lack of real role play with my characters, but I don't think my opinions changed too much. But I've only done two playthroughs so far. I fell further in love with Solas from my Cullenmancer to my Solasmancer. But, I was still in love with Cullen and was convinced he was secretly, unrequitedly in love with me. I hated Sera even more and actually gave up on even talking to her in my second PT. Blackwall I couldn't view the same the second go around, so basically rivalled him after the Reveal. Overall, I don't think I made enough choices that were different for it to make my interactions much different. The only significant difference for me was my unexpectedly poignant, head over heels reaction to Solas.

I haven't particularly had any major perception changes towards characters, though I have a greater appreciation for some like Calpernia, who I liked infinitely more than Samson. And I feel like subsequent playthroughs have only strengthened my feelings towards certain characters, such as Cassandra, Bull, Vivienne, etc.

On the matter of Solas though, I'm pretty sure everybody and their mother knows how I feel in regards to him. I replayed Trespasser recently and really listened to the tone of both my Gale (who is a reflection of me) and Solas. And I also wrote out the entire scene, using my own Gale for the Inquisitor. I will say this - I'm gonna kill the SOB, no matter what. But I don't see my feelings toward him as blind animosity anymore so much as a righteous fury on behalf of the world he intends to destroy. Ergo, I better understand the character's motivations, but at the same time, it has only strengthened my own resolve towards protecting our world.

Hey all. Been locked in extended family hell and didn't trust my brain to fingers filter. Especially in the spoiler threads so I was cold turkey for awhile.

I did, however, do that insane AoS/DA thing inspired by lissinator's modern Cullen and Alistair as cops piece. It's just Cullen and Coulson in a room, though I gave Cullen the absolutely worst power an introvert can ask for.

It was supposed to be a one shot, but now I find myself dropping other characters in:

Alistair Therin: former LAPD sharpshooter.
Nightingale: Information broker ALA the Shadow Broker

I'm almost tempted to make Josie a Hyrda plant somewhere like the UN.

On Templar questline vs Samson. I do regret not having Until Dawn, but some of the notes found at the Quarry are interesting. Plus the access to the Crystals. And the fact for some reason it affects Cassandra's gift quest.

There's also a minor line where you do get to point out that the Inquisition saved the Templars during the 'First the Templars, now the Grey Wardens.'

Plus there's Barris, and especially his 'judgement'.

Ha, yeah, Solas hit me hard, too  My first playthrough was just a mistake; I think I was pretty bitter about the whole situation and so the character I was playing just felt false... I was making him do things that I didn't personally care to do and by the end of it I had no clear idea as to who this person was; he was just a vehicle through which I had experienced the mechanics of the game. HOWEVER, Solas made a huge impression, to the point where I was more excited about the possibility of a Solavellan mod than a Cullen-mance one LOL Now, as to why I feel so differently about him this time? Yeah, I guess you could call it role-playing, though I don't think of myself as a role-player per se, having never really done it; I feel more so like I'm "writing" Auren, and he's just a different character, very different from Alin, who was in love with Solas. So now that I'm writing from the perspective of this new character, he is much more wary of Solas; he's more mature and more suspicious.

I mean, empirically, pulling myself away from my own characters, I like most of the characters and think they're well-written. I wouldn't say I'm "in love" with any of them because I'm a real person and they're just characters BUT (probably like you) I've fallen "in love" with the relationships I've played/written, kind of like reading/watching a perfect romance (not one of those cheesy crap ones lol) and getting "the tingles" all over from happiness and squishiness, only this is even better because you get to control it to some degree. It's like being able to write without having to do the awful heavy duty actual writing lol

Aww, well, I'll live lol That's a shame though. I can barely remember the Samson quest that involves Cullen... does he actually accompany you on a quest? I seem to recall that he does. Thing is though, I've completed the game twice before this and chose mages both times. I have two other incomplete playthroughs during which I chose the mages. Only once did I chose the templars (Cadash playthrough) but never played that beyond Skyhold. So not only do I really want to see the templar version of that choice, but it's also the one that made the most sense for my inquisitor; he's always been wary of magic (because he doesn't understand it); however, he has faith in his keeper and his/her (seriously, is it a guy or a girl??) first and second. But non-Dalish mages? Hmmm. Plus he has a crush on Cullen and Cullen seems to favor the templars lol *derp*

I did, however, refrain from going to Redcliffe before making my decision, because I feel once you realize what's happening there, it makes no sense not to make that choice.

He only accompanies you in the last part when you go to the temple. He does have more reaction since you can bring Samson in for judgement and he stands in for Josephine on that one, whereas he stands in for Josie dealing with the Knight Captain from Therinfal for the Templars.
