I'm saving THAT LAST ONE!!
Gosh he is looking more and more like brash hotblooded Elrond
WOW, that's quite the compliment... Elrond, pretty much the only elf I've ever found personally attractive

I agree. And while I imagine it would feel great to have a massive following or reviews, etc. all the time, the only thing that truly counts is that you're happy writing. (I know how horribly cliche that sounds but it's really true as a general rule of life.
) Besides, most artists are under appreciated until they're dead. lol
In my honest opinion, go write your story. Whether it ended up popular or not it's another matter of another time. If it's a story needs telling, you need to tell it. You know there are people here who will read it
If anyone can write the story you need to tell with Auren, it's you. And you alone.
You're right of course
It's not that I need to be popular... /flips hair xD Just... a massive part of storytelling for me is seeing the reaction from the people I'm telling the story to and knowing they're moved by it. I'm sure my fellow writers here feel the same way. I realize I was spoiled in my first fandom. It gave me a pretty big head, too.
That thrill of waiting on the edge of my seat after posting the next chapter and refreshing the page and waiting for the responses to pop up... it was a frigging hell of a rush.
That response got me back into writing. As a Master's student a professor told me I wasn't good enough to be in his writing program and it wrecked me. I stopped writing, period, for years. Then tentatively began writing fanfic... if people hadn't responded the way they did, I'd probably have given up writing for good.
Suffice it to say I have a lot of anxiety centered around writing lol
Hee hee hee. As a total non sequitur, I have a Jade Empire icon on my profile now! LOL I just started it (for free, coughcough, of course), and it's cute. I had forgotten this old formula of RPG storytelling. And my character's name is Tempting Jianyin. LOL Tempting. That's my new favorite thing.

I downloaded and tried it, too!! Unfortunately, although it claimed to have controller support it really doesn't >.< After the practice fight scene I found I couldn't make my character turn around, just move forward. Ugh.
I picked the shirtless guy and named him Lu Kim after a character of mine but now I'm wishing I'd called him something awesome like Tempting Jianyin lol
Some of the best stories I've read for my fave pairs had very little views/kudos/comments. Those hidden gems you stumble over when you've read all the popular stuff but you're still not satisfied and you dig deeper ...
Never let the counters discourage you. There's always at least 1 person out there that goes nuts over your story!

Yes!
I got Jade Empire, though I'm not sure when I'll have time to play it. Probably after I finally burn out on DAI, lol.

Agreed, like the old saying 'a diamond in the rough.' I read a lot of stories and usually there is some positive feedback.

A good point and something every writer should remember OTL /hangs head ... how many times have I been the reader in that situation, obsessing over a story that has less than 3 reviews. There is a multichapter story for an old fandom featuring a very rare pair that I read 10+ years ago, had like zero reviews when I came across it. Still remember it to this day.
In other news, Sera and Auren are F*CKING BOSS. They just destroyed a dragon together. Meanwhile Varric and Dorian fell immediately and were utterly useless. They're buying back at the tavern at Skyhold.
I ALWAYS give a kudos and 90% of the time i leave a comment to show my appreciation (or I just mention that i cried which I do a lot lol). I love all of you writers.
And readers like you really help keep the writers going (or me at least, lol.) Otherwise writers kind of feel as if they're in an echo chamber.

Excellent! I always try to do this as well. I know folks struggle over what to say, but I figure literally anything I say that's positive is something. My badge of shame is that I hardly ever read anything anymore. But when I've actually been drawn in enough to read something, or with any art on devart that strikes me, I try to say something to show my appreciation.

LOL Yeah, I'm not too good at the controls either. I'm using keyboard and mouse, my comfort zone, but it's all frakked up during battle, and I can't figure how to move either. It seems all I can do is autotarget someone, but I can't maneuver around on my own. Totally weird.
I'm surprised it's not better with controller, since this started out as a console game first. I figured my probs were because you were supposed to be using a controller for directional control. I'm a "point with mouse and move forward with W" kind of non-dextrous player, so I suspect they may need me to use all the W,A,S,D direction keys during battle (like the last Tomb Raider did during cutscenes, ugh)... which means I'm frakked.

Yes WASD and or R+Mouse in combat and rebind W to a mouse button but, make sure to bind toggle walk/run as well so you can turn running back on after moving the walk button. I prefer WASD but, all in what works for you.
You know I have to say I'm enjoying the templar route. Calpurnia is an interesting and sympathetic character, plus it's nice to have more female characters in the mix. While Samson was just sort of "wah wah nobody liked me now I'm evil" Calpurnia is a former slave and actually has a cause. (And you all know I have a thing for ex-Tevinter slaves ♥).
I'm at Here Lies the Abyss and experimenting with a strange crew: Varric, Dorian, and Cole. No warrior. Auren isn't really close with any of the warriors. He respects Cassandra but there isn't the same closeness there was between Alin and Cassandra. Normally Varric would be replaced with Sera, so essentially Auren's best friends are Sera and Dorian. Yeah I don't get the Dorian thing either because Auren is disgusted by his blase attitude towards slavery (of elves... Auren's a little indifferent to the plight of poor humans lol). And Cole is like a little brother.
I love Clarel; another complex and sympathetic female character. I did not like how Erimond called her a "b!tch" though. Why the need for a sexist slur, writers? Latent misogyny in fantasy irritates me to no end. Either you're a lazy writer or a careless one.
Bringing it back around to Cullen, I was hoping for some romance dialogue at the fortress gates, maybe a bit of "Don't die, Herald..." but, nothing. I don't know if this is the way it normally is or if it's a mod thing. Though I don't mind it; Cullen and Auren are all serious soldier business on the battlefield, though my headcanon is that Cullen is the one who gets sentimental while Auren shuts him down and tells him to keep it together lol
It's been so long since I've had any romance content :-\ Sometimes i forget I'm romancing anyone at all tbh.

No, there's no romance content at the fortress. You should trigger something when you get back to Skyhold, though.
I took those three into the Fade with Zhenya, and it was great. They're the last three who belong in the Fade with the exception of IB. Varric is so good with Cole, though. I'd been kind of tepid about Varric in DAI until I played through with the two of them together (strange, I know, since I'm the dwarf fan.)
Edit: Oh, I agree about Samson, though the extra story they released about him after the game launched did give him some more depth.
I like Calpernia's side too, especially since with her you can convince her to leave Corypheus and not have to fight her. Although, I think I like In Hushed Whispers over Champions of the Just just a little more.
I wish we could visit Redcliff to learn of the Magister, do CoJ to get the Templars then, use the Templars to run the mages out of Redcliffe instead of having them just leave on their own. It would make a better story and, explain some mages being with the Inquisition, those that did not want to follow Tevinter in any way, the rest would flee to aid Calpernia.
Still, I hate loosing "Before the Dawn" so I usually go with the mages.

Aw, thanks! I'll have to see if I can figure out how to do this.

My sons been playing the last couple of days with controller and hasn't had that, he has full 360 movement, including strafe. The only movement which is forwards only is rolling.
Unless you mean in combat, then, related to R2's post...

Iff it's the same as on the controller then to move freely in combat you have to de-target. On controller you de-target with left stick, not sure which key on K&M.
edit.
It's T to de-target on K&M.

OH!! This sounds like it could be exactly my problem! During battle, my character will only look at and move towards the target. sooooooo annnnoooyyyyiiinnngggg. I'll try this next. ![]()
