My sons been playing the last couple of days with controller and hasn't had that, he has full 360 movement, including strafe. The only movement which is forwards only is rolling.

Unless you mean in combat, then, related to R2's post...

No just moving around the little starting village... he can only face forward; he can move in any direction but I'm essentially walking backwards... he won't turn around.

I guess my game is just screwed up :(

Speaking of controllers vs. keyboard, I am (hopefully) going to get a chance to try a couple over the holidays and maybe buy a PC compatible one (my hands are not dealing that well with DAI's keyboard controls since there is no autorun, etc.) Any that people favor/hate? I'm hoping to put in serious time on a modded Cullen X Vetra Cadash PT and would prefer not to end up in pain :P

Wireless 360 controller works great for me for DAI :)

For me Tommy Copper gloves (the fingerless ones) help a lot. Age is getting to me as well but, controllers just confuse and aggravate me. I learned to game KB+M and, just can't get the hang of even walking properly with a controller.

Good to know! My daughter, DIL and their friends are planning to help me try to learn to use controllers and want me to test several. But I learned to game on a keyboard mostly too (I did play a couple of games with a joystick...) It's literally having to hold down a key constantly with my middle finger just to move that's starting to get to me.

I'll keep that in mind. I'm pretty certain my daughter has one I can try.

Bind Auto look to the right mouse button, right click on, right click again off, now you can tap Auto Walk (G by default) to move and tap the right mouse to get the camera turning as you move the mouse, right click again to stop it. Just make sure mousr look is OFF before trying to use an AoE ability - a bit funky if you don't turn it off before an AoE LOL.

Definitely try one before you buy - they're so expensive.

There can be a steep learning curve, learning to use the toggles. My first real experience with them was playing Halo 2 against more seasoned friends - talk about having to learn fast or hang my head in defeat >.< The first time I tried it, I just walked around in a circle and couldn't figure out how to look away from the ceiling lol But it should be easier (and less stressful) with a SP game.

Not that I hadn't used controllers before; played on consoles all my life, but Idk, I think I was getting back into gaming as an adult, and it was the first time trying to move in 3D environment with the toggles buttons.

If you can manage to find a way to keep using M&K then I'd say go with that :)

So, new chapter. My smut, at long last. I'm still on the steep part of the learning curve, it seems, but I like how it turned out.

Fool’s Errand 16: The Cadence of My Heart by R2s Muse (ao3) (ffn)

Summary: Three years after allowing Marian Hawke to escape Kirkwall, a disgraced Cullen is sent on a desperate quest to find her. Can he earn her trust in time to regain what he’s lost and finally redeem them all for the role they played in igniting the mage-templar war? Set in 9:40, after the events of DA2 and Asunder. Now AU to DA:I.

Pairings: f!Hawke x Cullen

Rating: NSFW

Chapter Summary: While underway to their meeting with the templars, Cullen invites Hawke to join in his training exercises, requiring discipline, stamina and a good deal of exertion. Inevitably, their discipline unravels.

Well! So I finished Adamant, but when I went to talk to Cullen, it triggered the end of Perseverance. Which is lovely, but no romance content :( When I try to talk to him again he says he needs some time to be alone  <_< Grrr. If I weren't so impatient and worried I'd actually be enjoying the slow pace of this romance lol

You do have to leave Skyhold and come back after the end of Perseverance before he'll talk to you about anything.

I'll have to give it a try, thanks!

Yeah, I have my doubts about whether I'll be able to use a controller. I hate getting old...

Careful what you wish for! Once the next scenes come, they probably pop right in a row and then it's the DESERT til after Temple of Mythal. The one after Perseverence is lovely. Then, you still have two major interludes during this act.

So, OK, ACTUAL CULLEN DISCUSSION time. Cullen's lip scar. We know from Brianne that it was just an artsy addition from the artists, and she imagines he got it Kirkwall. My question is: how do you get a scar like that?? If you're fighting someone and their sword hits your face, would it really only score your upper lip like that?? Or does it have to be a shaving scar or something equally inane?  Or did he get a split lip from a fist fight, and it just didn't heal right?

I'm having a hard time coming up with a plausible scenario in my head. Thoughts?? What's your headcanon for the scar?

my headcannon for that scar is that whoever was helping him (probably Varric) move red lyrium Merdith to a safer location slipped, causing the statue Meredith to split his lip.

Of course somone could have been mad at him for defying Meredith and busted his lip before he could retaliate or defend himself.

He isn't fond of sea travel so, might not have good sea legs, could have fallen and did it on the boat ride from Kirkwall.

He also could have fallen due to lyrium withdrawal pain after joining Cassandra but before leaving Kirkwall, or on the boat ride.

I just prefer my version, no fight but, Cullen wasn't the klutz either because unlikely a sword would do only that to his face.

The scar is ragged and irregular, so I tend to think of it as caused by something other than a blade of some sort. Animal or demon claw, maybe. Or possibly hit with something irregular like a rock with sharp edges or slammed into a rough stone wall? Ooo, a blow from a hand with a ring with a faceted stone!

Edited: glass from a broken bottle?

Yeah I figured  I'm spacing out chatting with folks. The only lands i have left to explore fully are Emprise and Hissing Wastes. Every time I clear out a land I head back to Skyhold to chat.

Now that I know this is normal (for Cullen) I actually like it :D It reminds me of the M!Shenko romance, which is very different from the F!Shenko romance. Very, very slow paced and ... just gives you that slow burn ♥ I felt it started off awkwardly but it's getting better. For the record, for me the best romances have been M!Shenko, Solavellan, Hawris, and Zevran's, in terms of pacing only. I dunno how they manage to do it with Fenris, considering how inappropriate Hawke's first flirt is  (but then again you don't have to take it... but if you don't, I seem to recall that I don't like Fenris's next flirt) But maybe the time skip + Fenris' reluctance adds to the good pacing. Solas is also reluctant, and Zevran is reluctant to admit his feelings. All good things to hold the romance back at a goodly pace.

I have a very similar scar on my chin; when I was in second grade, a boy pushed me down (we were all running out of the cafeteria like wild animals haha). So that's from slamming into the hard floor at a full run. I imagine he could've gotten slammed in the face with a piece of rock, either in a traditional fight (fighting can be dirty) or a fight with a mage.

"Lots of men under him. Needs a woman over him."

Laughing because Sera's comment on Cullen becomes QUITE INSULTING when romancing him with a man

/headcanon of Auren storming into Cullen's office and asking a baffled looking commander how many other men he's sleeping with and would he really prefer it if Auren were a woman?!?!

OK, follow up to my scar question. Looking at it up close, it is sort of ragged. But do you think it was bad enough to need stitches, or is it just a surface wound? Am I seeing the spots from sloppy stitches?

Looking at MelissaGT's high res photo  you can kind of see them.

Zoom in here on the WAY high res one:

I don't think it was stitches, perhaps tiny stretch marks form a mage using magic to pull the skin together to close the wound but, I can see how it could be stitches if you assume either no mage healer available or, Cullen's distrust of mages extended to him not allowing one to heal him when that happened.

The fact that it's all bumpy and prominent makes me think it didn't get stitches. Because mine is quite prominent, even after 20 years, and I didn't get stitches. But it's pretty much agreed upon that I should have gotten them. (They just slapped a massive bandage on my chin which I got to wear for a whole week... fun!)

p.s. Solas looks like he's having a great time!

EDIT: I tried to take a pic of my chin to show the scar (it is actually quite similar to Cullen's) but I couldn't get a good shot of it + I sort of powdered over it this morning because it's been getting a bit red lately (must be a pimple under the skin, ew). But then I remembered from looking in the mirror what shirt I was wearing and realized R2 would get a kick out of it so I took a pic of that instead :P
