re: the scar, I'm not a doctor but that's what skin looks like when it heals on it's own with just a bandage, in my experience. Had he had stitches, even if they weren't applied with the most skill, the scar would like be less ragged, more than likely just a faint red line.

There's so many possibilities with the scar, I hope BioWare never explains it. It's fun to speculate. Looking at the angle of it. seems like a "slice" movement, since it's such a straight line. If he was smashed in the face with a rock, or fell down, it probably would look quite different. The raggedness it think is from the skin knitting itself together, webbing across the wound, not from the thing that caused it. So it could have been a sword.

That all sounds plausible! OK. No stitches.

But again, if it's a slice, how does a sword cut just your upper lip and not your nose or your lower lip and chin? I'm just trying to come up with even one plausible headcanon that I could, erm, well, you know write in a fanfic (coughcough). I can't come up with an idea for how he would get it in battle and not have his face way more messed up.

Chiming in on the scar... As commented above, I agree it's too jagged to be a blade slice. I'm going with "random melee scar" acquired in a close quarters combat. Maybe he got popped good with an armored elbow or snagged it on a damaged piece of his opponent's chain maille or a buckle. No stitching, hasty patch up or if it was stiched, he somehow ripped them. (I have a sizable scar across my nose *story omitted* that was stitched but too late so the skin was already dead, making the stitches pretty worthless. Scar is similar.)

That "fierce" t shirt is a total must have! Where ever did you ladies find it?

(oooh, and 20% off right now!)

On the scar, I can go with hasty. It is still pretty straight though. What if someone hit him really hard, a lot? What does a split lip look like? Or would it have to be a cut?

Maybe it's a much less glamorous story and Cullen's dog bit him.

bwahahahaha! ohmygod. /headcanon accepted LOL!

Good to know, tho. Without stitches, I suppose it would look more ragged. How funny that it's in exactly the same spot. And, honestly, tho, who the hell takes pictures of someone in the emergency room like that??  Holy cow. Poor lady. (edit: pfft. I take it back. She took them herself and posted them.   ooookay)

She should have kept it quiet and then told everyone she was in a prison brawl. Earn some street cred.  :P

A past lover slapped him with her gauntlet when she learned he was leaving Kirkwall. He kept the scar as a reminder of what they had.

"You never loved me," shouted Ruvena. "Good luck finding another woman with a voice as beautiful as mine!"

OK, follow up to my scar question. Looking at it up close, it is sort of ragged. But do you think it was bad enough to need stitches, or is it just a surface wound? Am I seeing the spots from sloppy stitches?

Looking at MelissaGT's high res photo  you can kind of see them.

Zoom in here on the WAY high res one:

Hehe :) YES!!! I am going for the stitches as well :D Am actually writing up how that happens. In my head, that's Hawke's handiwork, because Anders wasn't there to do any healing. It was a painful day for poor Cullen... :P

Love how a tiny detail like that can spark a whole scene in a story :D

In short, writers (me included) are just gloriously crazy :D xDDD

Yes, Martha Stewart, stark raving nuts but you can't fault her business acumen; the woman is a force to be reckoned with  She sells herself as much as anything else!

Okay, spoilering for grossness...

If his face was tilted downward slightly, eyes up, the tip of the opponents blade could just graze the upper lip. I'm thinking a dagger not a sword. Imagine it catches in the upper lip on a downswing and he moves out of the way before it gets the rest of him. And Cullen doesn't have an underbite. Also I imagine he'd be grimacing, you know, that battle face. Even a clean slice with a sharp blade will heal raggedly without stitches.  *shrugs* It can be whatever fits your story!

THIS. Beauty of fanfic/fan art and all that. Although I know some writers are sticklers for minute details, when it comes to fanfiction, as long as it's not absurd to the nth degree, I think readers will be okay with it.

Though there was that one reader who wrote me a long review chastising me for not writing how my character was going to the bathroom while nursing a broken leg; yes it's been 8 years but I'm still annoyed by that lol

I have a raggedy scar on my knee from falling off of my tricycle as a kiddo .. I imagine his lip scar comes from falling off a tree or running through the underbrush something really silly

OR he took a shield to the face (or a practice sword) during training

so many possibilities *dreams on*

DATE NIGHT ON THE LAKE...!!

http://curiousartemi...ke-calendhad-is

It was very cute. Perhaps a bit treacley for my tastes  Plus Auren of course had the female animations, which were hilariously exaggerated... but hey maybe that is what brings all the fellas to the yard these days

So sad Tumblr had a pic limit so I couldn't use this one :(

Yes I like to think they had some, ahem, fun times on that rickety old wharf... great now I want to write a funny fic of it breaking xDDD

Speaking of fics, I'm having a real devil of a time working out the logistics :( My fear is that I'll be called out for getting the geography or the distances wrong, but I guess I need to tamp that down and just go for it. DA fandom is just a very lore-knowledgeable fandom, so I'm nervous.

EDIT: Plots are so hard  :crying:  :pinched: I know I want something to involve kidnapping elves, especially Dalish, but I can't get any further than that. Someone message me some ideas lol UGH  :crying: This is why I usually write romance plots!!!

That's a good comparison. Both Cullen and Lear have a certain purity to them, especially at first meeting.

Well, between Cullen admitting that he used to go to a long stretch of wood for some "alone time" and that it's been a long time since he last visited, I think it makes sense for him to finally get some lovin' on the shores of Lake Freudian Metaphor...

That lake is definitely fanfic fodder. I want to do one of what happenes to his pauldrons when the old dock partialy breaks and, though he and Quizzy don't go swiming, thier cloting does. How do they get new clothes? How will Cullen explain the loss of he favored fur pauldrons?

I know I'm meant to the poor guy but, he's so much fun to tease - lovingly of course. LOL

Hey folks. New chapter of Fool's Errand!

Ch 17: The Glory of Creation (ao3)

Chapter Summary: The immediate, fluffy aftermath of Hawke and Cullen's first night together.

Ironically, it ends up including something we spent many and many a post discussing in the Cullen thread about plausible scenarios where Cullen could actually sing in character. LOL So here's another entry in that.
