I think I'll make an elf for his romance, maybe with a Surana import. This post got me thinking about the implications of such an affair, and I like the way Cullen chews out that one agent for using the term "knife-ear".

I did a human mage my first time and the mage dynamic was interesting for sure, but the elf dynamic this playthrough (I am an elf rogue) is also pretty intriguing! I think an elf is a great choice, the height/size difference is also very nice with Lavellan lol xD;;

That Cullen romance mod works for Qunari too. Though instead of grabbing boobs, he kisses them.

There's a mod now to unlock the racegating, I'm about to try it with my new dwarf, Vetra. I tested it with Zhenya, so I already know it'll be humorous (let's just say he's a boob man) but it's no worse than some of the clips I've already lived through with a dwarf, lol.

Me too! I haven't made a Qunari Inquisitor who did not fall in love at first sight with Cullen.
I don't know why, he's just catnip for my Qunari. I managed to make a lovely Josephine romance with one of them, but still... the lack of option gets to me.
Also, while my dwarves tend to fall for Solas in the same way (I don't know why! My dwarves love Solas and my Qunari love Cullen), I can see them liking Cullen, and the romance being so sweet!

A lot of people like to think about Cullen being into Amell (since she's the only one mentioned in DA2 and the cousin of Hawke), and a lot is made of the dynamic of a Templar and Mage, and a lot of speculation is made about him being secretly into mages. And that's awesome! That's a very interesting and worthy discussion.
I just kinda wish more attention was paid to his love of Surana and Lavellan, because that's a discussion that I find interesting. In my headcanon worldstate I always imagined Cullen fell for Surana, and I like to mentally explore the dynamic of a human who keeps falling for elven women, as well as the dynamic of a Templar who keeps falling for mages. Like you said, it can get one thinking about the implications of such an affair (what is it about Cullen that he can potentially keep falling for elven women as well as potentially mage women?), especially considering how good he is to elves this game and how respectful he can be to Lavellan about her culture.
I love doing his romance with a mage and, even better with an elven mage. Something about the slender, tiny elf and the Chippendales worthy commander just works for me and, a mage with Cullen gets some special dialogues I love.

He's a great guy and I love the dynamic, but I'm just not a fan of playing humans, and the fact that I have to play an elf if I want to smooch Cullen is a little stressful.

I don't know about WAY hotter! I think he's one of the hottest characters in the game. Even despite the helmet... he's a perfect combo of cute and not-too-pretty (which Cullen actually sways more towards for me... he's too pretty. But I luvs him anyway!)
I fell for Cullen playing Surana in DAO; was disappointed he wasn't a romance until Alistair. But when I heard he was a romance option DAI I decided to romance his brains out with a female elf mage because he didn't get the girl DAO. I cant remember who made this comparison but I think its perfect .. Cullen is a teddy bear made from cotton candy.

I ran across a post on tumblr about how Solas is the (seemingly classic) anti-villain. I'd never read about this trope before, and in describing it to El Husbando, happened to use Snape from HP as an example. I was reading over the list of examples to PROVE I WAS RIGHT (which I was! ahem), I ran across the following interesting slice.

As a reminder, here is the definition:
The Anti-Villain is the opposite of an Anti-Hero - a villain with heroic goals, personality traits, and/or virtues. Their desired ends are mostly good, but their means of getting there are evil. Alternatively, their desired ends are evil, but they are far more ethical or moral than most villains and they thus use fairly benign means to achieve it, and can be heroic on occasion. They could also be someone or something whose desired ends or means are not necessarily "evil" at all, but their actions simply conflict with that of whoever seems to be the protagonist.
So, I must say, I would never have described Cullen this way from DA2. Certainly not Thrask. It sort of seems to me that this description is predicated on the templars necessarily being all being villains, which I personally don't feel is the case. If all templars are villains, then these two characters could be described as "villains with heroic goals." Could Cullen be someone who's means are not evil, but whose actions conflict with the protagonist? I dunno. He helped my protagonist quite a bit.
So, I dunno. It seems to me using these two characters as examples of this trope results from a not exactly balanced view of the templar v mage debate, since it seems to require that you see the templars as evil. Other thoughts?
