Exactly what I was thinking! I'm awed watching how fast Ceru's artistic skills have developed.

Jim's the name fandom gave him and has stuck so thoroughly that devs use it sometimes. I feel for him, but only a little. He had to be pretty clueless to see that the Commander was there, but not see who he was with or their postures - even in the civilian world, what assistant interrupts his boss when he's with someone important without checking out the situation?? Speaking as ex-military, Jim ignored several rules and customs and got off fairly lightly - just a growl and a glare, after all. Recruits go through much worse than that several times in the first hour of training.
I mean - imagine Grant with Lee taking his surrender. "Sir! Here's that report on rations you wanted!"
I didn't think he was clueless. I thought he was in a hurry. All game we constantly see Cullen scolding and reprimanding his assistants and messengers for not getting things done as quickly or efficiently as he likes, and we see hints that no time is a "bad time" for Cullen since he's constantly flocked by dozens of assistants giving and receiving messages and reports all at once. So his assistant tries to deliver a report as quickly and efficiently as he can to avoid getting reprimanded, then gets reprimanded at anyway. Can't win for losing.
I may not be ex-military, but I've actually had assistant and aide jobs with pretty... demanding bosses who expected me to have everything done or delivered yesterday, and then upbraided me if they thought I was the tiniest bit slow. Even if they were deep in conversation or swamped with other work or reports, if I tried to wait till a "better time" I'd get upbraided for not just interrupting the conversation or their workload to get it to them post-haste.
So, in that sense, I can kinda see why "Jim" would be in such a hurry to get him that report "without delay" that he doesn't stop to read his boss's body language since his boss never said, "Bring it to me directly except when I'm talking to the Inquisitor," yet still expects him to read his mind and magically know this time he's supposed to stop, read his boss's body language, and assess how busy his boss looks before getting that report to him.
LOL Agree. I have no sympathy for Jim. Esp given that Cullen's has had to take him to task before. Dude needs to learn how to do his job.
Of course this is all said from a place of deep affection for Jim. But interrupting Take 1 of that kiss is unforgiveable.

Well, we say that because we're the ones getting kissed. We're not playing the beleaguered assistant who's been upbraided for not getting things done fast enough all game, and then suddenly get yelled anyway after we worked so hard to get something done in a timely manner because our boss expected us to magically know this time we were supposed to assess how busy he looked before delivering the report he demanded "without delay."
(Not to mention, the scene happens only when you initiate a romance. Most of his men don't even know he and the Inquisitor are an item because they literally just became an item that moment.)
Why does this just make me think we're watching the Thedas equivalent of The Devil Wears Prada play itself out in Skyhold?

LOL Are you suggesting that Leliana is in a backroom somewhere cheering up Jim and giving him fabulous outfits to wear? ![]()
Nope. No sympathy for Jim here either. Speaking from a boss perspective, if you can't do the job I need you to do properly and in a timely manner then perhaps you need a different job. I know that sounds harsh but come on... we're trying to stop the bad guys from killing the world. I'm sorry if it hurts your feelings but I have a job too and my job sometimes relies on you doing your job. *cracks whip* ![]()
And now we know why my profile name is meanieweenie. Ha!

I have another theory LOL. I think Leliana saw Cullen and Quizzy from her rookery somehow and sent Jim to interrupt them only to have some fun XD

New headcanon lol, didn't Jim have reports from Leliana to deliver?
I just spent hours in the Winter Palace and didn't get the dance with Cullen.
I should have realized it when I couldn't ask him to save me a dance, but I feel silly because I forgot how to trigger the dance. Do I have to do the kiss on the ramparts first? I honestly can't remember how it progresses. Help?

Between Leliana showing up with some "reports" right after Bull and the Inquisitor hook up, her conspicuous absence in the scene when Cullen, Cassandra and Josie walk in on them en flagrante, as well as poor Jim being sent right when Cullen and the Inquisitor are about to mack... there's definitely a pattern emerging that hints at Leliana being a moment killer!
(Knowing her, she was probably also behind the message that Joker was going to give to Shepard in ME1 that interrupted the kiss in that game)

It's been a while for me now, too, but yeah you need to have kissed him first. There's an overall guide here that might help.

I remembered taking it slow, but I guess I didn't know how slow. I went back through some of my old posts last night because I couldn't remember my headcanon, since I'm replaying my canon Inquisitor. But I found it! I'm supposed to do Adamant, then Perseverance, then start the romance.
Wasn't Jim was looking down and concentrating on his duty and simply not notice what Cullen was doing. I am sure Cullen is a fine boss.
I remember that once, during a serious work crisis, I scowled and very firmly said to a staff member and said "just do it!" It was clear that I was angry! It was so out of character for me that the staff member and I laughed about it for years! Sometimes stuff happens....
You guys complain about Jim, but I'm being stalked by this Dwarven woman who stands near Cullen's desk and won't leave him alone. I just had the table scene and she was in the background, but she ran like hell when Cullen started throwing things off the table
Sadly I was too slow to take a screenshot.
LOL I think it's the intensity. He's got the "goddmmit Jim!" look in his eye.
Meow.
Is there more to it? Or is it just his face? I think I am missing the "hotness" aspect
But it is beautiful art *_*
Yeah as R2s Muse said it's the look he's giving haha

That's the one good thing about the Solas romance, I guess; all your kisses happen in private ![]()
So the Jim interruption moment, is that the first kiss on the ramparts? That is one kiss I have actually gotten to lol Okay, I will admit, I did think Cullen rather barked at the guy and was rather mean-tempered about it - bit of a turn off for my inquisitor, who was falling in love with him for his rather gentle and shy nature. Also that scene is pretty hilarious with a male inquisitor because while Cullen is yelling at Jim(?) my inquisitor is standing in the background doing this really really sort of girly and shy pose and it just made me crack up ![]()

I happened to catch your profile comment lol.
I'm not saying anything about you. I don't even know you, but there is a saying that fits very well with it and I instantly thought of it. It goes like this.
"If you think one person at work is a jerk, they probably are. If you think everyone's a jerk, it's probably you." Just something that felt it could be relevant.
lol I don't think Cullen is a jerk in general, but in that scene I was a little bit like... whoa, settle down big guy ![]()

Especially when you spend most of the past decade as a Templar not getting any, while stationed in Circles where the buildings are most definitely not phallic shaped at all.

lol That probably wouldn't bother me at all but yeah everyone is different. I haven't played through enough of the romance to tell if Cullen was sexually repressed or not.

Based on Alistair and Cullen both entering Templar training in their mid-teens and never having much in the way of dating experience as a result, I'd hazard a guess that being slightly sexually repressed tends tends to come standard with the uniform. That and learning to become emotionally distant from their mage charges is part of their job, so they won't let their feelings get in the way of acting if they have to.
Probably is the reason why most Templars come across as cold, aloof and serious, Cullen suggests they are purposefully trained to be that way.
