Time for a new car! I know, easier said than done. I just bought my first car at age 34 (had it for a year). The car I traded in was 15 years old... it was time. The dealer asked me if I was sad to let it go and I just looked at her like she was crazy.

OH man. So glad you were ok. That happened to my sister's VW bug once. On the 405. She saw herself later on the news! 

 

Hope you can replace it soon. It's a hassle losing time in a busy life over such stuff.

Yeah, I'm really trying to work on blogging and journalism. It's why I started my Magekiller reviews. I'm hoping I am getting better/more interesting.

 

I need to start seriously thinking about a Bachelor's program to apply to. How about all of you. Congrats on the book MMG

Thanks Just a scholarly book though, sigh. And a collection, so I'll only write the preface. Still plugging uselessly away at novel-writing. THAT would be a dream come true! (To all fellow writers out there: do you ever read a book that's so good that it makes it difficult for you to work on your own novel? Especially if they're the same genre. I'm dealing with that at present. FYI I can't recommend Seraphina by Rachel Hartman enough)

 

Good luck with the blogging/writing The biggest thing that will help with that (imo) is a degree. The higher up the better. Because you can, say, write book reviews for Kirkus Reviews (I did this) or even write for About.com, but they will usually insist on a master's at least. 

 

Also the bigger the city you're in the better. I have a cousin who majored in English (B.A.) and had to move to Austin (six hours from here) to get a decent paying job as a journalist/writer/report (or a job, period).

I read the uncut version of Stranger in a Strange Land...and from a literary point of view it's just so expertly written that it is disheartening so I get what you're saying,

 

I'm willing to move to the Congo if it gets me a job writing to be absolutely honest with you. I got invited to an orientation for the Columbia school of Journalism in New York so I'm hoping that will mean something.

I don't know if you were active when I joined the Cullen thread or not, but welcome back either way! I admit, my memory of some of the people who drifted away just before or after DAI launched is a bit vague...

I was thinking the same thing. It implies a current attachment, and it would mean him leaving a small child behind to help, which seems a bit out of character. And if it's in Tevinter, well, why would he be crucial to the story?

 

However, there are a few Fereldans from DAO who might logically make a reappearance. Shianni from the Denerim Alienage - frankly, I could see her going to Tevinter to try to locate some of the elves taken by the slavers and staying on to help build a slave rebellion from underneath. Soris too - he may not have been the firebrand Shianni was, but he had the b***s to go in to the Arl of Denerim's estate to try to rescue the women.

 

Though he isn't all that attractive, the dwarven mercenary Dwyn (from Redcliffe Village.) The elf, Berwick, who was in the tavern. Technically, these two could be dead, depending on the Warden, but that's never stopped them.

 

Admittedly, I'm looking for the lowborn, those who might pass in Tevinter as spies because they are assumed to be unimportant and beneath notice. Plus, I really effing want to see something done with Ferelden-type city elves again. We haven't really had one who could be considered to have lived in that culture except possibly Zevran (bought by the Crows, yes, but he lived in it, though it's hard to get a sense of the status of elves in Antiva.) The Tevinter slaves really are a separate group by legal status rather than race, so I don't consider Fenris a city elf either. Dwyn came to mind because apparently dwarves are pretty common in Tevinter and have a better status than most non-mages.

I desperately do NOT want a slave or escaped slave as a companion; BioWare likes to offer "opposing viewpoints" (i.e. the hack work that was done on the Dalish in DAI, UGH!!!!!!) and this slave would probably be like "Oh yeah it's not so bad, I love being a slave!" Double ugh.

 

Yes on "low" citizens of Tevinter though. Everyone and their brother/sister can be a magic-user, surely. But personally I don't wish to see any returning characters, other than the ones I want to romance I don't think BW likes bringing back old characters, either; they're going to produce DA4 to appeal to people who haven't played any of the previous three games. So maybe someone like Shianni might make a super minor appearance IF you say you played the city elf origin in DAO via the Keep, otherwise the default would be that she doesn't appear at all.

I WANT BEVIN! Sweet little Bevin grown up, and taks about the Warden who either save him & gave back his sword or something like that. That little kid in Redcliffe...

About Shianni... Well it's true that her role is a bit bigger than Merrill in DAO but we did have Merrill...

 

About DA4 I'm not particulary waiting for that one still there are still so many things that can be explored by fanfic etc...and DA4 will quite crush all of those... So well... Will be back to hype when the time will come! Thinking about DA4 made me not wanting to do the fancomic about my kids and actually just develop the story further to make it original work when it'll never be crushed by  any canon... But oh well, it is based from Dragon Age's stories, from back before the creation of the veil to post Trespasser and the future O.o

Well I'll draw some more loose fanarts and see what it'll be XD

(Fenris is not a "lone wolf", just wounded, yes. As the wound heals, the situation is changing. Remember, he pleasure spent times with his mates, this suggests many things.

However it is true, he not "city elf" because he comes from Tevinter, a completely different culture. And rejects the Alienage, because he does not like the misery. (Who likes?) Hes wary of elven culture, yes, because hes are rather Andrastian.)

I don't count Sera as a city elf; she was no more a part of the alienages or city elf culture than Fenris or Briala. She loudly rejects all things elven and apparently due to her upbringing by a human, is more disdainful of the elves than a lot of humans. Realistically, she's a human in an elf's body. Fun character, but no. I also assume a Surana isn't culturally a CE unless you assume she was older when she came to the Circle (I think mage and Circle training would override any sense of being an elf.) I want to see that culture we glimpsed in the Denerim Alienage explored for once (Val Royeaux has one - the chevaliers make a huge thing out of wandering through killing them to "test their blades - but we never see it or anything to do with it.)

 

Yeah, DA4 in Tevinter worries the s**t out of me because I'm afraid someone will be stupid enough to try to write something in suggesting that a lot of slaves are happy with their place (they came extraordinarily close to that in DA2 with Fenris's sister.) They did so much victim blaming of the Dalish for attempted genocide and persecution in DA:I that it worries me a lot. So far, they've dodged it, even though Dorian tried to, weakly, justify it (I'm hoping that weakness was deliberate, at least.) You have Fenris, obviously not a happy survivor of it. But the poor woman who was rescued in DA2 (and can be put to work or end up at the ****** house, can't remember her name) behaved like someone who was brainwashed and helpless, and, sadly, seems far more based on paternalistic myths written by early 20th century apologists trying to infantalize freedmen in the real world than it did with the actual recorded behavior or experiences of freedmen themselves.

 

So, I'm both hoping for and wary of a Tevinter slave rebel for DA4. I'm wary because they don't seem to have anyone who's read anything more modern than those paternalistic myths about slavery and the "helpless" freedmen. Whether or not they include a slave rebel as a companion, if they're going to Tevinter, they desperately need someone on board who's studied the recent scholarship, and I mean more than a single class or two at the undergraduate level and at a reputable university.
