Well, before we get too worked up, apparently there's a tweet from PW saying what they meant was "no more closing fade rifts" and he includes the comment that there are plenty of amputee heroes. So he doesn't come out and say we will get the IQ back, but doesn't state we won't.
Arte, I was only irritated because what they seemed to be saying and what Trespasser implied were opposites. I'm hoping we have an option for the IQ in DA4, but not required to play them. It isn't as if my favorite IQs ended up with anyone cannon either. I'd bring back my Solavellan if that's any significant part of DA4, but she isn't otherwise a favorite of mine and neither is my Cullenmancer. Zhenya could come back, especially if Harding's a romanceable companion (I know, it'll never happen, but still...) Vetra's in a non-cannon. I'm afraid my qunari rogue's going to end up with a Divine heartbreak.
I don't think I'll ever finish playing Reska...
Yeah I didn't think you were happy with your canon options either so I was a little confused
Well I really don't think we'll be given the option to play more than one protagonist, but they've shocked me before (like going from all-bi to this nonsense they're doing now; I really never ever thought that would happen and actually if my fellow old fogies recall none of us did back then; we all assumed romance would be like DA2). They also surprised me with the two different voices to choose from, and then lastly with the qunari race option. So, who freaking knows. But I put "having the option to play as the inquisitor in DA4" on the highest rung of the ladder of "impossible things that could happen in DA4" lol I mean they would have to practically write two different games...
I know from pre-DAI experience that speculating was pointless (although I called Dorian as a m/m romance option like a year before his official announcement AND I knew, just KNEW, that was Cullen in the War Room concept art the second I saw him
) but... maybe this could be related to DG leaving. That was pretty surprising and unannounced. Maybe he was against making the inquisitor PC and ML and co. insisted and so he ditched... or vice versa... who knows.
I just think making the inquisitor the DA4 PC would be very controversial and appealing to a rather small crowd; not everyone loved that game you know AND a very tiny percentage of people likely romanced Solas considering how gated he was. AND the inquisitor could've romanced Cassandra (probably the most popular romance) and her fate could be wildly different depending on the choices one made, so they'd have to effectively write out the romance or never reference it...
I just think it's so incredibly unlikely. BUT PW's tweet did make me raise my eyebrows. I admit, that surprised me.
I think like Tish said, it's mostly the annoyance that Trespasser hardly tied up loose ends and instead seemed to open a few cans of worms. So PWeekes claiming that was their goal is... annoying, like pouring salt in the wound annoying, particularly since the Inquisitor is unlikely to ever be the PC again.
For myself, I've heard MLaidlaw (who has, incidentally, not left the franchise) say about a billion trillion times at this point that new game means new protagonist, and honestly even the ending of Trespasser seems to telegraph that pretty clearly with the "we need people Solas doesn't know" comment. So I really don't expect that the IQ will be the lead for the next game, nor do I want her to be. But that means my Lavellan is officially frakked as far as her romance is concerned, unless they find a way to bring back the IQ in some limited way like they did Hawke. And then I'll probably be watching her ending from the sidelines if that is the case. And that Sucks. Capital S. Because, don't forget! Bioware owns & controls your characters now, right? :snort: Thanks for the reminder, David.
Now, new lead writer could mean they could do something different, i.e., contradict their past comments, which incidentally, they also do all the time (anyone remember DG's "we wouldn't write a romance for non playable characters" line [I'm looking at you, romanceable Cullen]?? Or Mary Kirby's romance stories only work if the story is about why they can't be together [looking at you again, angstless romanceable Cullen]?). So there could be a stint where the IQ is playable again (and part of me hopes for it). But even so, I'll eat my hat if that means DA4 main protagonist is the Inquisitor again.
So, in closing, annoying comment is annoying.
