  Thanks for indulging my shennanigans XD

...I truly have zero explanation for the context except that somehow, a bunch of people including me decided that it's a good idea to throw some prickly ancient elf from an Arlathan AU story into Jurassic Park context...

...and now there's two of us wondering what will happen if the same red character's thrown into Rush style story but Moto GP instead of F1... It was supposed to be K-Drama/J-Sport Drama tropes...

...I'm obsessed with this Red Elf. Help

...Cullen's healthier. Or not.

...where we are again with Cullen as Rogue? I'm writing a Pirate!AU with Cullen inside but it's truly need working

Pirate Cullen! ;)

Pirate Cullen! ;)

Please forget about it, I tried to make it fun & light about Princess Luthiel & Dread Pirate Rutherford but it turns out *a bit* dark and it ended up mixing the story with what's supposed to be a wink to an OC that shouldn't be here being a too vital character and it ended up... :crying:

Sorry for all the what if questions, but this is getting to be way to much fun. What if Cullen never became a Templar?

So for those who haven't seen it, PWeekes and others are at GDC this week. Insights galore.

Smarting at bit that Weekes seems to think that Trespasser conclusively tied off all plot points for our Solavellan Inquisitors.

I'm hoping they just mean "all plot points" for DAI, not for the whole franchise. It's not over till he's redeemed and they live happily ever after, I say!

Yeah, I'm irritated too. Trespasser did the opposite for me - created the expectation that the IQ HAD to come back in DA4 in some form to continue hunting Solas. Otherwise, what was the entire conversation with him and the scene in the dungeon in Haven at the very end all about? It goes double for Solavellans, of course, but they did imply we (our Inquisitors) would be able to try to set things straight one way or another. Ugh.

I think I'm in denial like so many of Solavellan fans out there. So let's just create our AUs and fics and artworks and stay in blissful denial... until the next game come.

TBH I recently found a couple of Solavellan "let's fix our own ending" fics & artworks & comics because it kinda makes lots of people feel like, "this is not how we want it to end so we'll just say hell to canon and go create the ending as we see fit". Some stay in near future after the Inquisition, a good deal (like, at least 4 massive fics by different authors) do Time Travel stuffs to different point in Thedosian history, some do the "what if" stuffs, some mix it with fairy tales etc. Some ended up being modern AU stuffs, some ended up "Once Upon A Dream" stuffs, some are wildly far from Thedas as we knows it, some are direct continuation of post-Trespasser ending with crazy twists...

...I think there's good thing that can be found even if Solavellan fans (including me) not getting what we want. There will be lots of angry rants & general unhappiness but TBH now I see that lots of people actually has the courage and energy and resolve to... do the work to give their own story the ending they want, as they see fit. That's something that's... somehow, heartwarming.

...well, back to work

Well, before we get too worked up, apparently there's a tweet from PW saying what they meant was "no more closing fade rifts" and he includes the comment that there are plenty of amputee heroes. So he doesn't come out and say we will get the IQ back, but doesn't state we won't.

Arte, I was only irritated because what they seemed to be saying and what Trespasser implied were opposites. I'm hoping we have an option for the IQ in DA4, but not required to play them. It isn't as if my favorite IQs ended up with anyone cannon either. I'd bring back my Solavellan if that's any significant part of DA4, but she isn't otherwise a favorite of mine and neither is my Cullenmancer. Zhenya could come back, especially if Harding's a romanceable companion (I know, it'll never happen, but still...) Vetra's in a non-cannon. I'm afraid my qunari rogue's going to end up with a Divine heartbreak. ;) I don't think I'll ever finish playing Reska...

Yeah I didn't think you were happy with your canon options either so I was a little confused

Well I really don't think we'll be given the option to play more than one protagonist, but they've shocked me before (like going from all-bi to this nonsense they're doing now; I really never ever thought that would happen and actually if my fellow old fogies recall none of us did back then; we all assumed romance would be like DA2). They also surprised me with the two different voices to choose from, and then lastly with the qunari race option. So, who freaking knows. But I put "having the option to play as the inquisitor in DA4" on the highest rung of the ladder of "impossible things that could happen in DA4" lol I mean they would have to practically write two different games...

I know from pre-DAI experience that speculating was pointless (although I called Dorian as a m/m romance option like a year before his official announcement AND I knew, just KNEW, that was Cullen in the War Room concept art the second I saw him :P) but... maybe this could be related to DG leaving. That was pretty surprising and unannounced. Maybe he was against making the inquisitor PC and ML and co. insisted and so he ditched... or vice versa... who knows.

I just think making the inquisitor the DA4 PC would be very controversial and appealing to a rather small crowd; not everyone loved that game you know AND a very tiny percentage of people likely romanced Solas considering how gated he was. AND the inquisitor could've romanced Cassandra (probably the most popular romance) and her fate could be wildly different depending on the choices one made, so they'd have to effectively write out the romance or never reference it...

I just think it's so incredibly unlikely. BUT PW's tweet did make me raise my eyebrows. I admit, that surprised me.

I think like Tish said, it's mostly the annoyance that Trespasser hardly tied up loose ends and instead seemed to open a few cans of worms. So PWeekes claiming that was their goal is... annoying, like pouring salt in the wound annoying, particularly since the Inquisitor is unlikely to ever be the PC again.

For myself, I've heard MLaidlaw (who has, incidentally, not left the franchise) say about a billion trillion times at this point that new game means new protagonist, and honestly even the ending of Trespasser seems to telegraph that pretty clearly with the "we need people Solas doesn't know" comment. So I really don't expect that the IQ will be the lead for the next game, nor do I want her to be. But that means my Lavellan is officially frakked as far as her romance is concerned, unless they find a way to bring back the IQ in some limited way like they did Hawke. And then I'll probably be watching her ending from the sidelines if that is the case. And that Sucks. Capital S. Because, don't forget! Bioware owns & controls your characters now, right? :snort: Thanks for the reminder, David.

Now, new lead writer could mean they could do something different, i.e., contradict their past comments, which incidentally, they also do all the time (anyone remember DG's "we wouldn't write a romance for non playable characters" line [I'm looking at you, romanceable Cullen]?? Or Mary Kirby's romance stories only work if the story is about why they can't be together [looking at you again, angstless romanceable Cullen]?). So there could be a stint where the IQ is playable again (and part of me hopes for it). But even so, I'll eat my hat if that means DA4 main protagonist is the Inquisitor again.

So, in closing, annoying comment is annoying. :(

Yeah, exactly, the constant contradictions are part of why I admit speculating is utterly pointless, but you know, we can never resist, can we :P Oh and as for ML, he pretty much IS the franchise, I think, him and Mark Darrah, so I wouldn't imagine either of them ever leaves, and if they do, the franchise will alter utterly or just die off.

I'm in the same boat.

The DAI ending made me desperate to learn when (if ever) Lavellan learned about Solas' identity, but for the most part I'd accepted that the Inquisitor's story was over. You just saved the world, your job was done, you'll probably fade from relevance soon. Then Trespasser came out and they upped our relevance. They had this big, epic, bittersweet, heartbreaking (for Solavellan fans) reveal of Solas' identity to the Inquisitor, set them up as rivals for the next game (with Solas hell-bent on going forward with his plan and Lavellan hell-bent on stopping him), had the Inquisitor vow to stop them, and end it with the Inquisitor actively searching for Solas either to put him down or save him from himself.

That looks like a set-up for future exploits, not a wrap-up or a send-off!

Before, I was willing to believe the Inquisitor would sail quietly into the night. Now, the Inquisitor is all revved for battle, but the writers are like, "No, wait! You're not supposed to storm these gates. That's for the new protagonist. Your story's over." And players are like, "Then WTF did you get us all dressed up to hunt the wolf for?"

I admit I was kind of like that, too? Even if I didn't like it. But I can set my bias against the game aside and agree with everyone here that Trespasser DID set us up for that kind of expectation /nods ... Although do consider that they gave us a fairly large decision to make (keep or dissolve the inquisition), and I think it could be hard to write a story that would include a PC who is EITHER the head of the Inquisition or ... just some random guy or girl now lol

And again to play Devil's Advocate, there are the epilogue slides. Nothing says "Game Over" like epilogue slides lol

I think I'm going to either play a Dorian romance or finish my Blackwall romance. It would be nice to have a canon. Something to think about!

Another thing, if the inquisitor were the next PC again, do you think Cullen would be in the game? I have to say no. Those who romanced Cullen would see about as much of him as we saw of Fenris, Merrill, Isabela, or Anders. (Then again this is also why I don't think Dorian will be in the next game, at least not as a companion or major character. Then again, we did have Leliana...)
