Seems like we're having trouble coming to a consensus. Should we list our options and take a vote?
 
1. Navigate to a new forum already created by other BSNers (list choices?)
 
2. Create our own forum and spread the word.
 
3. Head over to Reddit.
 
4. ???

I think it's premature to decide now. People are still finding out, let alone figuring out where to go from here. The whole of BSN is still testing options. 
 
What I've heard so far, resoundingly, is discussion forum, not reddit, not tumblr, not twitter. Altho folks may still connect with each other on any of the those (I'm R2sMuse everywhere, mostly tumblr, never reddit). 
 
For continuing the discussion on a forum, the question is which one. 
 
TBH, there is no "us" anymore on this forum, as so many people have scattered to the winds, so I don't think there's critical mass for our own thing. The most likely option is joining a general dragonage forum like some that have been suggested. Then it's a chance to still intersect with folks from 'around these parts.' Altho we won't recognize anyone, since everyone will have new names, etc.

Yeah that seems kind of condescending plus it's geared only towards romancers, whereas we are a general discussion group.

Yeah, if we were to start something from scratch, I don't think I want to join in a let's squee and call ourselves 'cullenites' thread all over again. Looking at "the official cullen discussion" on readdragonagefans... hmm, not sure. 

 

If we do move to one of those sites, maybe we transition to some other identity.

Yeah, I saw it too. I'm up for anything, even saving it on private pcs. We're a huge community, we could bring this content together over the years. Still I'm hoping for more informed minds to come up with some solutions.

TBH, I don't know that all 8000+ pages are worth saving. There are highlights, and I've personally already saved those, mostly from the old thread. More important, to my mind, are all the dev  posts scattered here and there and only found through bookmarks and the occasional wiki citation. But without a live link to those, the wiki citations will all die. sigh.

I'm copy pasting some smaller threads I value. I do appropriate formatting to make it more legible. Bolding screen names and adding dividers ----

They are trying to save as much as they can from the forum, using the scraper, HTTrack and Wayback machine, and later try to import the information on the new forums or at least make a read-only mirror site.

Solidarity guys from the Solas Thread, we're in the same boat scrambling around trying to save stuff from our thread and organize some kind of coherent community migration. BioWare really dropped the ball with this decision. :S hope everything goes okay for you folks.

The thing about Reddit for me is that I have concerns about losing our identity as the BSN by being absorbed into reddit.  And they did come off as rather condescending and begrudging. I also don't like the layout/set up; and overall it seemed rather....dry.

 

I'm gonna check out that biowaresocialnetworkboards.net..I think. I 've heard concerns about its founder, though, but I also hear good things about the forum.

 

Another bsn member mentioned that after the shutdown and people are a bit settled, there will be a...."summit" of sorts (my words) with other bsn refugee colonies to organize some type of a unified front.

I'm worried about the logistics (e.g. talking to one another, spreading the word) of holding a summit AFTER the BSN is closed. Better to do it now while people are still all in one place and things are centralized not splintered.

I agree with Solas . This forums is the only DA forum i was part of and I don't like reddit or i'm not tweeting and facebook is not a place where to have long talks i suppose. Either we migrate to one of the sites the other users advertise ( must make a list somehow ), we create our own website on a free platform or we could cotribute we our own money. It would be sad to just scatter I hate losing online friends. I am not a tumblr frequent user either. Thoughts?

I just visited that new uBSN forum, and it looks really cool; well organized; covers all the games even the old ones and the legacy and legend ones; also has an off topic and some names I recognize.

 

I've heard about some controversy with its main admin Ms. Saturn, but I feel like as long as there are other folks keeping the ship together, it may not matter.

 

I haven't signed up yet, but I probably will. I can always leave if I don't like it.

I'm always some form of BevH no matter where I go. I think, perhaps, migrating to one of the established forums might be the best bet. It's a LOT of work to set up a new forum especially if you're trying to transfer material from here. Just my 2 cents worth.

One caveat to keep in mind here folks is that we were looking for a forum that would be a good home for the Solas Thread specifically, with that thread's specific traits and needs in mind (emphasis on theorycrafting, character discussion/analysis heavy, creative members, warm fuzzy environment, no trolling tolerated, etc). RDF seems like the best fit for the Blanketfort Community. That doesn't mean it's the best 'Alternative BSN'. I don't know what the best Alt BSN is.

 

I love the Blanketfort community (obviously). Simultaneously I really enjoy the wider BSN community resplendent with all the trolls, memes, jokes, wars..  I'll also be looking for a BSN2 to join, outside of my capacity as Solasthread OP, to fill that need of mine.

Yeah I don't really consider myself a Cullenite anymore, only in that I love the community itself and the wonderful people I've met and OF COURSE ALL THE MEMORIES

 

Primarily I'm a video game fan and a super BioWare fan I'm not sure I personally will navigate to a new forum. Like Solas sort of mentioned for their thread, a lack of trolls and an increase in overall kindness and generosity is more what I'm looking for, which is why I was more in favor of starting our own and being diligent about weeding out nasty individuals. If all the same people HERE (BSN) are just going to be navigating over to some other forum... well I haven't been to BSN in over a month anyway and I didn't miss it, other than just hanging out in this thread and chattin with y'all.

Don't lie to us, Solas - this is what you wanted all along! "Burning in the raw chaos"... But really, thanks    This is extremely disheartening, and I hope we all figure something out soon.

 

You know, I considered engaging in this thread for a long time, especially after doing Cullen's romance, but always figured that I'd be late to the party and not really be able to contribute anything new. I guess now I'm really late! Too late Well, hello everyone!

 

I definitely agree with the others about their reservations about going to places like Reddit. These threads after all should be for general discussion, not only romance stuff. And Reddit apparently doesn't like us, and it's "dry" and "dead" feeling there, because of the layout and other reasons. It's just not the same. I encourage anyone moving anywhere else to keep your username or use something similar, and perhaps an avatar if applicable, so we can at least recognize each other somewhat.

 

And for my inaugural post, I guess I'll let Cullen explain my feelings right now:

Agree. And while people can still recognize each other. Five years later, I still have trouble now tracking people's name changes over the years and platforms.

Just came back around after a long hiatus.  Lo and behold, I find the forums are shutting down. 

 

The Cullen Fan Thread was my absolute favorite place on the internet.  R2Muse, Curious Artemis, Riverbanks, Tishinia, Cerulione, AlwaysHungry, and so many others that I cannot spell or recall right now in my state of despair...all of you guys made me feel so welcome on this board.  You all encouraged me to write again, which was so hard to go back to with the business of life (and the lack of confidence). I am forever grateful.  Seriously. That's from the heart.

 

  I still remember the night I installed Dragon Age Inqusition and was on here squealing like a fool with other players and watching the download bar creep to 100%.  It was such a sense of community.  I will miss it.

 

I am on tumblr with some of you guys, tho I rarely post becuase it is so image-focused and I don't quite understand how to use it. But still, it is nice to know I can still connect with you awesome people in some way!

I don't know how many of you venture out if this thread these days but I've seen several regulars in multiple threads decide to wait and see where hungr takes the twitter thread and will then move accordingly. May be worth it to wait and see before deciding on a place so quickly.
