Poor old Beardy only has 27 pages in total. This should definitely count for something, we love Cullen so much more than they love Beardy - kick him to the Non Follower spot instead!!!!!
Well, in all fairness, Cullen has had a few years to build up a fanbase whereas beardy hasn't sooo.... Though, I do hope for him to become a companion! :3
Just yesterday this thread had what? like 4 pages? And now it has 71 of them. I'm a little bit scared ![]()
Anyways, while I'm happy that Cullen is returning I would prefer that it were DHMG and the Beardy Warden who would end up as companions, I'm just too excited about them ![]()
I wonder how Cullen's opinion about mages is doing lately. While he opposed Meredith at the end I don't really remeber him being against all thuis Right of Annulment business. And now he have this nasty hole in the sky and it probably have something to do with magic.

Hehe. I'm sure once more info gets revealed about Beardy, the thread will explode like this one.
I really REALLY wish they would hurry up and come out with new screenshots of Cullen... or any of the companions we haven't seen, for that matter!!
GamerMD83 put up this hilarious video (featuring Cullen):
I hope she made the right choice:
ACTUAL SPOILER FROM VIDEO

In the templar ending of DA2 Cullen stands up to Meredith when she orders the killing of three mages who surrendered, and advocates for taking responsibility for watching over them instead of killing them because he believes that's what true templars do. He says that even at the Ferelden Circle some mages could be saved, and they should try to save Kirkwall mages if they can.
I imagine that Cullen is still extremely wary of mages. Having seen that the templar side is capable of evil too, though, I also think he'd be more willing to be open-minded and take a more middle of the road position on mages than he did in DA2.

There's an excellent deviant art photo of Cullen done in the style of what he could look like (minus the scars).
Oh the glories of being a teacher and having summers off

I want to know whatever happened to his "Mages aren't people" stance, unless he still has it.

He seems to be a middle ground type of person, always considering the other side of the spectrum. I believe that is what I like best about his character. He's not completely black or white and is willing to listen to the other side rather than just blow them off.
Isn't it coming out in fall though?
Yep, but the teachers/students will be off during E3.

I thought everyone was talking about E3.

That sort of "stance" isn't really a stance at all but more of an emotional outburst born of fear and trauma. (This occurs only about a year after DA:O, I think.) So I would say that by the end of DA2 he's matured quite a bit and has regained some of his rationality.
I imagine at this point he's just terribly confused, and terribly weary.

All the more reason to play as a mage Inquisitor and provide sweet, sweet comfort... ![]()
Lordy I need to calm down. I wasn't even all that excited about Cullen until recently.

He better have dropped it, or else I'll have one less companion or adviser to have to worry about. I can't stand people who think that about any group.

LOL I'm actually thinking about doing a mage first... even though I prefer to play rogue, especially archer. But... I don't know. I really dislike playing mages. But it does seem as if being a mage could have special consequences.
It could be interesting romancing him with a mage (if that option exists), but also potentially troubling. A bit like romancing Fenris with a mage? It can be done, but I get the feeling it has to be done delicately. These are very troubled people; can't really kiss the pain away, sadly.
WOW. ![]()

I loved playing as a mage in DA2 because the combat just made me feel pretty bad-ass. I loved the regular attack animation, even. Mage in DAO was pretty lackluster for me on console, and not so bad on PC. Hopefully combat in general will be vastly improved in DAI. I love archer rogue type characters as well, particularly after Dragon's Dogma.
I dunno, I have a feeling Cullen might be receptive to the Inquisitor being a mage, considering he/she will have already gained this position of power and trust prior to meeting him. I do hope though that Cullen would actually be able to recognize immediately whether the Inquisitor is a mage or not by, ya know, the huge glowing staff at the PC's back. ![]()

Agreed. That's one of the things I like about Cullen, and one of the reasons his character appealed to me in the first place. He's been through a lot, and yes he's been embittered, but he's not completely closed off to hearing the other side, either.

I'm planning on romancing Cullen with a mage. (Assuming the option exists.) But she's a gentle and understanding mage who gets that Cullen has been through trauma at the hands of mages and is willing to take things slowly and earn his trust.
I think it would be possible for Cullen to realize that mages aren't all bad.

Exactly!

I agree with Artemis that when Cullen said that it was more born out of fear and exhaustion than hatred. Not only was he traumatized only a short time before by his torture at the Ferelden Circle, but there was also the recent situation of the recruits potentially being turned into abominations and Cullen probably feeling like there was very little he could do to protect them. He was upset and scared, and not exactly at his best.
I also think it's important to take the statement in context - that Cullen wasn't speaking about any personal dislike of mages, but was talking about the incredible amount of power mages wield and how dangerous that power is, so in that sense mages really aren't exactly like everyone else.
I'm not trying to defend what Cullen said at all. It was pretty wretched. Cullen is not a perfect guy, and that was definitely a low point for his character.
I think that his actions at the end make up for something bad he said in a moment of fear and weakness, though.

I think he already knows this. I don't think he thinks mages are bad at all. I think he just fears what they can do. Really, he fears demons, not mages. (Though there is the complication of his faith; how much of it does he buy into, in terms of mages being "cursed"?)

I don't know about a low point; I love moments like that; they complicate the character and are what make me admire the writing and thought that went into him ![]()
