I don't know about a low point; I love moments like that; they complicate the character and are what make me admire the writing and thought that went into him
I don't mean it was a low point for the writing. It was quite well written and believable.
I mean it was a low moral point from an in-character standpoint.
In other words, it was a point where Cullen-as-character screwed up, not the writers. 
I think he already knows this. I don't think he thinks mages are bad at all. I think he just fears what they can do. Really, he fears demons, not mages. (Though there is the complication of his faith; how much of it does he buy into, in terms of mages being "cursed"?)
Yeah, I phrased that badly - I think Cullen could get to the point where he realized that not all mages have to be distrusted. In fact, I think finding mages that he could trust (not necessarily in a romance context, friendship works too) would help somewhat in his recovery from trauma.

Technically, though, he never said Mages aren't people. He said 'mages aren't people like you and me'. I'm not about to defend the harsh language he used, but he IS right and did have reason to think this.
(For the sake of this, let's ignore Mage!Hawke for a second. This isn't about 'lol, he's so unobservant'.)
Mages can be very good people. Mages can also be very bad people. That's human nature. However all mages are, whether you like it or not, people that are in danger of being possessed at every waking moment. They're people who have a LOT of power at their finger tips. So they are technically living weapons that can have their control taken at any moment if they're not careful. It's easy to say they have the will to resist, but, everyone has their emotional low moments. Everyone has losses in temper. Everyone has moments where their mental walls are weak.
Some of the fear of this is lost on the player, though, because the player character is never in danger of this part of the lore.

Well, nobody is perfect! I love moments like this that complicate the character. Although, his responses are understandable due to his PTSD, especially just a year after his trauma. It would've been worse if he were completely blinded by hatred for mages, but he just seems more weary of them. I also believe he would improve as he definitely had as opposed to right after the events in DA:O.

I'm so pleased about Cullen getting a bigger role and being a love interest! Now we'll just have to wait and see if he's a companion or an advisor. Should be interesting either way.
I wonder when we'll be seeing what he actually looks like in the game though. His armor from the leaked survey looks really interesting I hope we get to see that in the game.
Also recall that he treated Keran just as harshly as he might treat a mage. So it's evident that he doesn't hate mages .... he hates magic. Or fears it, rather. Ahh suddenly I'm reminded of Hawk's responce to Arvaarad: "So you fear them."

Yeah, unfortunately chibis are just below zoozoo pets on the irrational shudder scale for me. At least with zoozoo pets there is a reason because we all know they are pure evil!

I agree, and I think I even remember one of the devs admitted to that being a mistake on their part, but I was trying to avoid focus on that while I made my point.

So I'm reminded of DG's recent comment, about us not getting our hopes up because of the number of lines GE supposedly recorded.
After the big announcement, I immediately thought, Ha! That DG, he totally trolled us and threw us off the scent!
But now I'm sort of thinking, he was definitely being sincere. Maybe he's warning us that no way is Cullen a companion, that GE hasn't recorded as many lines as our (incorrect) math was telling us. He is just an NPC.
