So I got a question ... Do people think that siding with the Templars in DA2 is the "evil" way and siding with the Mages is the "good/right" way?

Nope not at all. I feel DA2 made a good case for both sides really. The main reason my canon Hawke sides with the mages is because Bethany is in the circle and she needs to protect her. My Hawke (like Varric) didn't much care about Templar/mage politics only her own self interests, preferring to not have an opinion one way or the other. However she wants Bethany to be free and is a very devoted older sister. She was always her Achilles heel, and even when things went to hell she didn't really think about the other mages, just her.

Now as for my own opinion, I felt the mages in DA2 were shown to be far too susceptible to demons and there were far too many abusers of blood magic. So I think there will always be a need for a type or circle system because of this. What made me lean more to siding with the Templars in the game was not only Ander's but Orsino's betrayal. Meredith (as crazy as she was) was effected by red lyruim but Orsino had no such excuse for covering up for a depraved murderer and turning into a giant ugly hypocrite.

Anyway, a less slippery slope conversation and general ponderment, do most people here have the OGB as canon?

 

Yes, I have. My canon Warden is a female Dalish rogue who romanced Alistair. She always wanted to help everyone, but in the end she was being a bit selfish. She didn't want Alistair to die and she didn't want to die herself, so when Morrigan showed her the easy way out, she didn't even think about it. She never got along with Morrigan, so she might have had a reason to mistrust her, and maybe she did, but ... well, she wanted her happy ending

On my second playthrough with a female City Elf warrior I made the ultimate sacrifice. It just felt right for her. She had seen so many horrible things and she simply didn't trust Morrigan. She wanted to help people, but most of all she wanted to do the right thing for everyone, so a single life was irrelevant ... even if it was her own life.

My third playthrough was a female human mage who manipulated everyone around her, just because she could do it and because everything was just a game to her. So of course she made Alistair kill the Archdemon (sorry, Alistair!). That way, she wouldn't have to deal with Morrigan and she wouldn't have to die. That was quite logical for her

 

And my canon Hawke is a sarcastic female mage who often jokes to hide her insecurity. She doesn't tolerate bloodmagic at all, but supports the freedom of mages, so she sided with the mages at the end. She was feeling a bit overwhelmed by all of it. And she ran away with Fenris.

My other Hawke is a female mage as well, but she's terrible. Even Varric hates her. I haven't finished that playthrough, but I guess even when playing such a cruel character I won't be able to let Danarius take Fenris. I could never do that, and when the time comes and my Hawke wants to do it, I'll stop her myself

 

It's great that these games give us so many possibilities to develop the character we're playing and make them so different from each other!

 

And I agree, I would like to know the other LIs as well, although I doubt that I will get the other LIs that I want (I want Varric as an LI, and Sera for a female character). Oh well, we can only wait until they want to tell us.

Pshaw, that's what's so great about these games. You play them how YOU want to. It's what made me fall in love and run out and buy an xbox at the ripe old age of 30-ish. 

 

Funnily enough, I am the opposite of you. I love writing romances of all types, gay, straight, etc. Maybe because my characters are like my babies; they're not "me." Whereas when I play RPG I like playing as a boy; it's that hidden side of me that can't come out b/c of what I am on the outside. So I guess I relate more personally to my RPG character. (But at some point they also become like my own characters; I love them like children.)

 

 

True story...I had a friend who was bullied off Tumblr simply for the fact she romanced her mShep with Cortez and had her female shep with Kaidan.

She was called every name in the book. She was called a homphobe too which did not make a lick of sense because she loved the mShep/Cortez romance.   She was bullied because of putting Kaidan with femShep.    

 

So while we can romance anyone we want in these games, there will always be bullies in every character ship fandom because some people do take it to the extreme when it comes to their ships.

 

I truly hope that does not happen with the Cullen fandom.

I'm not going to lie, sometimes I feel in an odd place where I identify with gay males far, far more than I do with girls of any sexuality. And I say that as a girl who doesn't think she's gay or straight or bi exactly. *scratches chin, random confession moment*

I do wish BW would give out some concrete info on all these romances, and whatever approach they are gonna take.

 

I mean, BW is the one always telling us how tertiary to the experience the romances are, how side content-y it is. Yet, they turn around and get all precious abt it.

 But then you find out that Orsino and Quentin were friends, and Orsino basically uses the same magic that killed Leandra. And then it stops looking like black and white. Kirkwall is just doomed. No matter what you do - it's doomed. (I hope Cullen got out of there fast!)

 

So true, but Hawke doesn't know this at the time, and neither does the player! If we were given more evidence that blood magic and demons may have infiltrated the Circle, going pro-templar might make more sense. Even so, there are still innocents within the Circle, like Bethany or Ella or my dear Alain.

Ours are pretty close! I'd switch Sera and Cassandra, but, yeah! (I'm not sure who is more likely, Solas or the Iron Bull, though. I wouldn't mind Varric, though.)
