Grey DeLisle, 40 secs in with introduction.

Spoiler

Be back with Laura.

I didn't comment on Grey, because, as a Midwesterner/Neutral Accented individual, I have always found that her manner of speech is... peculiar.  But, yes, Laura Bailey, definitely.

The Avatar: Last Airbender character sounds like a California girl to me.

Erm no way, she sounds nothing like Palin! That's a very distinctive accent.

XD  That's more the Minnesota "hoser" accent.  I think by Midwest they mean major metro Midwest.  Chicago, St. Louis, and most Ohio cities.  Halle Barry's an Ohio girl (like me) and has the Midwest/Neutral accent.

Yeah, agreed. Although I hate calling it the "neutral" or "standard" accent (which ML didn't do, to his credit) because it's not neutral if you're not from there; it has its own sound. Also, the Midwest is mostly white, so that also creeps me out a bit when people say it's "neutral/standard." (Good example with Halle though)

I don't care what you people say, now every time I see the Femmquisitor, I'm gonna have Sarah Palin's voice running through my head.

You betcha.

Oh but also, be careful with that Chicago thing b/c the president is from Chicago and HO BOY does he sound like he's from Chicago lol (well he's not from there, but he sure has the sound)

EDIT: Meaning, Chicago is a very distinctive sound.

I guess it's "neutral" more in that it's the accent that the press and most actors use.  And I would argue the white point.  More Major Metro regions (Chicago, Columbus) have extremely large immigrant/mixed ethnicity populations.  Particularly in more University Towns.

Well at least Laura Bailey's still in the running. DeLisle was always a pipe dream for me anyway, since she already played Velanna.

I grew up in Virginia, but basically have a "Midwest" accent. It's pretty plain, with no twang or anything like that. Think American newscasters. This wikipedia article might help explain it.

Immediately after taking down a dragon.

Oh, Maker. Now I've got a mental image of her sliding down the neck of a slain dragon chirping, "Taking down dragons, you betcha!" with her stupid glasses and a Fargo hat.

Yes, yes they do. My daughter's mother-in-law is from Chicago and has a very distinctive accent. As do those from Minnesota.

That is pretty true.  XD  I guess most of my experience with Chicagoans have been ex-pats that moved to the Central Ohio area and I didn't detect a discernable difference.  But maybe they acclimated better, because, boy, there are some strong Chicago accents.

I was kind of wishing they'd go southern... like, omg, Sawyer on Lost.

Then again, I'd only ever play the Broquisitor and I'd never get anything done. Just..cycle through the same conversations. Over and over. Slightly salivating.
