So okay, with the understanding that I am not at all invested in my version of Cullen being the accurate one, and I'll be perfectly fine with the writers taking him a very different direction than my headcanon...

 

I see Cullen as having become a lot more middle-of-the-road in his beliefs, and more wary of extremists on either side. That seemed to me the direction his character was headed in during his DA2 arc, and having now been betrayed by Meredith and templar extremism as well as by mages, I think he'd be less likely to accept blindly that templars or the Chantry were doing the right thing.

 

That said, I don't think that his more open-minded views would make him less assertive or more of a follower-type. On the contrary, I see Cullen as having gained more trust in himself and his own insights and morality. I don't think he'd be easily led into something his gut told him was wrong. I think he'd be more willing to put his foot down and stand up for what he thought was right, even if powerful people disagreed.

 

I think he'd be battle-weary and probably physically scarred, but I also think that outside of Kirkwall he'd feel less burdened and more free, more able to relax and start letting his guard down a tiny bit if he felt comfortable around his comrades.

 

I think he will always bear the emotional marks of the trauma he suffered, but I also think he's started healing, maybe even talking to people at the chantry he could trust about what he went through. I don't think Cullen will ever be as though the events of Kinloch Hold never happened, but I also don't think they're as fresh anymore, and I don't think his mind is quite so tormented anymore.

 

We'll see, I guess!

I think I just wrote "front of my chest" or something similar lol I really don't like writing very explicit stuff; even words like "nipple" make me shudder. It bothers me to think of someone getting off to something I wrote... plus I feel like I'm being cheap to the characters. Writing this fic kind of reminded me why I gave up writing explicit love scenes, but at the same time, it was kind of fun diving back into it!
